We just have arrived back after 3 intense traveling week in China. Could not keep you updated all along, as tasting, visiting grower friends and having enermous dinners took main part of our time. Travelled almost 20 thousand kilometers from Budapest total by planes, car and fast trains. We had our Chinese friends accompanying us, the smallest one was 6 months old. The revival of Mengding shan yellow tea. Long ago yellow tea was a traditional product in the area. Now some small artisan makers, also some bigger companies are making steps to produce Mengding huang cha. Three level: Huang Ya - Yellow tips, Huang Xiao cha - Yellow small tea, on bud one leaf, Huang da cha - Yellow big tea, one bud 2-3 leaves. The heart of the making is a 3 to 7 day fermentation. Three times short shaqing - baking, then basket fermentation for 1-1 day. The result is soft, mellow, calm tea. At the eastern feet of the Himalayas is the Chengdu basin of Sichuan. The last hill is Mengding Shan, said to produce green tea for two thousand years. The area we visited is a water drainage basin, natural tea grows, chemicals are not allowed here. The surrounding villages and city get their drinking water from the hill. Traditional tea house and garden in the oldest Chan monastery in Chengdu. Many famous masters practiced, lived here in the past. Now as in many parks in the city, people spend hours talking to friends, sipping tea. So how did it all started? Tobias @poor_over and his friend @denesrajmond, both coffee rosters of @supremokaffee have decided to visit Budapest early January 2019. They visited many interesting coffee places to experience the Budapest specialty coffee world for mutual benefit. They also visited @dorado_cafe where they met @palbadics and heard about our teashop. Later they told us that Dorado was one of their favorite. Next day they came over, we tasted several teas. Pali was working that day with us. The roasters left home with some tea and good experience of the tea world as well. In a few weeks time we received an order for teas to be shipped to Germany. And not much later this photograph arrived. Tobias took some of our tea to Costa Rica on his coffee sourcing trip... and life as a fairytale never ends. Taiwan Primeur Green 2019 No.341, a delicate, sweet and soft very early green, the first this year. The Qingxin 青心 varietal is mainly used for high mountain Oolongs, this green has high flowery, fragrant notes. Picked in mid January. Perfect start for Spring.
