Wrapping up Week 2 like a #girlboss 😎 I started taking videos of me during my PT sessions as a way to monitor my progress. I've never really been one to share my daily work out or behind the scenes on my fitness practice but I was inspired to share these videos by all of you. I've been getting many pictures and videos as updates from those of you who have been or are going through injuries and I found it very uplifting and inspiring. After all, we are a community and we are here to support and lift each other up. So I'm mixing things up and sharing a few of my own.. grunts, funny faces and everything for you to see 🤣 We are all new to something and boy, am I new to this! But slowly and surely, I'm getting to the place I want to be. Still no decision on what I'll be doing next. When they get taller than you, it’s hard to remember that they are still kids! My daughter Taylor is so smart and is getting quite independent. So, instead of shielding her and treating her like a baby, I’m trying to teach her some realities of life. I had her when I was very young and she is my first kid so I'm pretty new at this but as all parents do, I'm doing my best. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For quite some time, my focus has been on cultivating a relationship with her that allows for open dialogue when it comes to all those topics that are our responsibilities as parents. At the same time, I'm attempting to balance my role as a confidante and as as her mother; we're 21 years apart and in the past, I've created a relationship for us that was more on a friendly basis. As she moved from 12 to 13, I realized that she needed her mom. I'm currently working on finding this balance and also, on working through what comes up for me as a woman. I can remember being 14 and like a lot of us, I experienced some things that shaped me into the person I am today; in a good and bad way. Hard at work with @victoryperformancept 💪🏻 Look at me go! 🙈 I can’t help but feel proud of what I’m accomplishing with each PT session and I wanted to share with you what my recovery is shaping up to be like. I’m slowly getting back to normal and recovering my range of motion in my knee, while I work through my fear and pain. And let me tell you, it was quite a journey getting started with PT right away 😂 Check out my IGTV for the full story! This whole experience has made me realize that even though I have an amazing doctor and PT team, there just isn’t enough support and information out there. There is a lot of waiting involved and although I googled like crazy and talked to everyone I could, I felt lost and out of the loop. So I’ve decided that I’m making good on my promise from my first post and I’ll be doing a knee rehab series for the yoga world. I’m excited to share more of my healing process with you, and I’m really looking forward to hearing what you would like me to tackle in the series 🙏🏻 After all, I’m still an infant when it comes to this and I know that many of you out there have more experience with knee related issues. Happy Love Day #yogafamily 💘 I’m a fan of today because it’s a reminder to cherish all the love we have in our lives, in every shape and form. I'm making lemonade out of lemons 🍋 It's been quite the eventful two weeks for me and as I'm getting back to normal, I'm happy that my perspective changed on my accident. At first, I panicked and thought "why me? why now?" and stressed over how I was going to make things work. Accidents always tend to happen on the worst possible time no? But as the days have gone by, I now know that everything is not as bad as it seemed and that I'm strong enough to face anything that comes my way. I'm walking and making things work, and although things are a little different, it's not so bad. In fact, I welcome this change. Because it means I get to do things in new and exciting ways. As I take a step back to take care of me and my body, I'm excited to have my #yogafamily there to share my passion with. I've enjoyed getting to talk to you one on one and seeing your practice evolve through the videos you send. After days of guessing, I finally got my diagnosis yesterday. My right ACL is torn and there is bone bruising. It’s a relief to finally know what is going as for the past 5 days, I’ve been guarding my knee. Since it’s been a while since the fall, I’ve now experienced muscle atrophy in my quadricep and overworking of my calves and hamstrings muscles. Basically my brain has thought that I can’t walk. So today I spent the day with @victoryperformancept for my first PT session. We did some body work to retrain my muscles and I’m back at walking (with a bit of a limp and guarded), facing my fears and establishing confidence in my body. I’m tentatively planning a surgery in 4 weeks while I work on regaining the range of motion in my knee but I’m also open to not having it. I’m still figuring out what works for me and I’m still working on accepting that this was a traumatic injury and that I shouldn’t get frustrated with myself. I know that with time and focus I will be able to tackle this and I’ll be back to normal soon-ish. Thanks again for supporting and rooting for me. On a path to healing 🤕 I'm feeling better after the fall and I've been busy trying to figure out what the next steps are. I got my MRI done a couple of days ago and today I am seeing the specialist. And in the meantime, I'm all about self-care. I stopped by @debbiekimwellness today for some relief and I have to say it was the best choice for my body. 30 needles might sound painful but they helped a lot with the pain I was feeling from the fall. While we decide whether to operate is the best choice for me, I'm nervous for what's to come but staying positive. As many of you have been so kind to remind me, this time will help me recharge and focus on getting my body to recover and rest while I get to learn new lessons. Keep the healing vibes coming #yogafam! This yogi needs and appreciates your help and support 💕 If you’ve had injuries of this kind, I welcome your opinion and recommendations as to whether you think operation is the best alternative or if you think there are other options available. It's Day 4 post-injury and I finally made it back home to LA from Whistler for much-needed rest and family time. I'm still figuring out what life is going to look like for the next couple of weeks but of one thing I'm certain: my IG fam is the best! I'm blown away by all the amazing comments of love, support and advice that I've gotten since my last post. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your positivity and all the healing energy sent my way, it's been so comforting to know that you have my back during my recovery journey and I'm really looking forward to sharing how I progress. After a couple of amazing days on the mountain here in Whistler, learning how to parallel ski with amazing teachers, the icy snow has gotten the best of me. I fell, my skis didn’t release and I tore my ACL. After waiting 30 min in -20C, my chariot toboggan arrived and took me down the hill, into the ambulance and quickly to the ER. Whistler doesn’t have an MRI so I don’t know yet if it’s a partial tear or full but since my lower leg wobbles out when I bare weight, I’m pretty sure I know what it is. Amidst shaking (from adrenaline and borderline hypothermia) and crying because, how the hell am i going to deal with this?!?...I’m also grateful as this injury is minor compared to what could’ve happened. The support I’ve had here so far has been incredible and, although I’m in pain and can’t do much on my own (which is hard for this independent woman, I’m excited to start the rehab process after I figure out whether i need surgery 😭.
