How do you know when you are ready? When is the best time? I recently had a yogi ask me these two questions and although they were meant to be related to becoming a yoga teacher, I like to think that they are applicable to life. These two questions... boy, are they deep. And honestly, who hasn't asked them? I know I have and I don't have an answer... because I believe there isn't one. The best way to know and the best time to get started is RIGHT NOW. Waiting to be ready or for things to get perfect is just fear masquerading as logic, and if we wait for that time to come, well... we'll be waiting for a long time. So let's not wait and let's live. The key to handstand success is........ 🤔🔑 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Squaring the hips in a standing split is definitely a trending cue in the yoga community. Now, I think it’s important for the outer hip to find engagement. If the top leg externally rotates to help you stretch a bit that’s completely fine but if you are approaching handstand and you’re going into a handstand prep, the key is to square the hips. That way when you jump up, you have a nice hollow body and your hips are square and not open. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Watch the full video for my trick. As a yoga teacher, I believe that getting to know the why is key to helping our students to get all the benefits from yoga. Happiness.. it takes practice 💕 It's been hard to figure out how to make time for myself 😅 It took a while but I finally stepped away to get perspective and I realized all the things I was missing out for not putting what is important first. So, I pressed the "restart" button and now, I'm getting to a place that I'm proud of. Not everything is perfect, but hey does it matter? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If anyone else is feeling like I used to feel, what really got me through was using yoga as a way to detox. I used my flows with all their twists and the sweatiness to navigate my thoughts and emotions. It was intense but worth it. So much so I'll be sharing my flow at @wanderlustfest Wellspring next Oct. 26. The past 2 days, Sydney and I had the most amazing opportunity to unwind and reconnect with one another at the beautiful @costapalmas and taking this quick break made me realize how important the below concept is in regards to our relationship with our kiddos! .———————— Making conscious choices throughout my day is a goal of mine. That said, it doesn’t always happen and many of my interactions (especially with people close to me) are driven by reaction...especially when I’m stressed and busy. I tend to beat myself up when I’m reactive and I have to remind myself that I am a work in progress...I think I always will be. And even though I may make choices that I am not proud of sometimes, at least I am aware of them, even if it’s after the fact. Then, I can use that awareness to course correct, be accountable for my actions and words, and create the best interactions possible. Putting that into practice often has helped me act in a way that cultivates healthy relationships with people rather than reacting and regretting it or worse, make up excuses. .——————— Self awareness doesn’t stop you from making mistakes, it allows you to learn from them so you gain the tools for change. .——————— Comment a ⚒ if you’re on the same path. #awareness #selfwork #yogawithbriohny #yogamama #costapalmas

This pose kicks my butt...literally! The only way I feel strong in this pose is to kick my bent leg heel as hard as possible into my glute. Over the past couple of years, after the birth of my son Sydney, I realized that my quads and hamstrings had gotten super weak from years of over stretching. Now, after focusing strongly on strengthening, my body is starting to feel balanced again...after all, that's the goal of yoga for me. Feeling good is not only about what you do with your body, it's also about what you put into it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In my teen years, I didn't quite grasp this concept and it took me a long time to understand how food could be an agent of change in your life. As a mom, I'm quite mindful of what I put on my kid's plates but I also do it for me. Because eating good food makes me feel good! Not only physically, but mentally as well. Now, I'm no expert but I do love to learn so I'm always on the lookout for recipes and online courses that will help me around the kitchen. Which is why I'm so excited about @JasonWrobel 's Good Mood Food course!!! Over the next 10 days, I will be learning more on how to eat so I feel my best. Who's in?? With Sydney in Kindergarten and @taylorchanarat in 8th grade, their weekday schedules have become insane. The other day, I was booked, back to back, from 7am-9pm. I’ve started to feel like a Mom-Uber...a “Muber” is what I call myself these days! But, on the weekends, I make sure to spend quality time with both of them. Last night, Sydney and I went on a movie and shopping date...the shopping was his idea btw!
