I could cry sometimes because of the actual competition that there is (subtly) existing in the yoga teacher world. . I’ve had ideas taken, worked for less than my worth and been disappointed in the motives of my peers. I am to blame for some of this, but we all should hold one another accountable in honor of the sacred work we do. . Despite it all, I’m still a fucking yoga teacher. I did the hard work. I put in the time. And I have something to share. . I may not be the thin, Instagram flexy yoga teacher that I secretly make wishes that I were. I may not have my Sanskrit down to a T. I may not be as flexible as I was before my body went through changes. I’m sure as shit not plant based or vegan. Hell, I’m not even the same person I was before I entered yoga teacher training. I don’t belong to a ritzy Insta-worthy studio. . I’m putting myself out there. I’m taking a lot of risks and digging to find courage through them. I’m being vulnerable. So yeah, I’ll get hurt. I’ll get mad and upset. I’ll get depressed and introverted. I’ll shut down. And then I’ll rise up. Like a damn phoenix. . I’m not everyone’s cup of tea, and I’m not the quickest to get things done in my life outside of working full time. But I’m present and imperfectly authentic. I’m going hard and I’m getting my name out there. My very first day in YTT @889community . . . I still remember my first day at YTT Opening Ceremony, while everyone’s chatting to each other, I stood in a corner and whispered to myself, “Am I f***ing serious? Am I being yoga teacher now? What if I fail and withdraw from it?...” These questions constantly reoccurred on my yoga journey from the embarkation. Just now as I closed my binder after preparing for final exam this Friday, a voice just popped into my mind, “Yes, you did it! You are a yoga teacher now!”, and a smile appeared on my face. The past 9 months is one of the most beautiful and greatest moments in my life. Sometimes it was tough, sometimes it was frustrating, sometimes we laughed out loud, all tears and laughter just fell into its place. And being a yoga teacher is the most amazing thing in my life. The graduation is not the end of my journey, it’s a fresh start of a new chapter. . . . Calm & Happy.⠀ ⠀ Energetically hip openers are said to release old emotions. Our innate reaction to stress is to curl up, restrict and contract. The body contracts physically but in the process holds onto those emotions caused by stress. This could be things like fear, anxiety, stress, anger or resentment from past experiences. Hip openers play a role to release these emotions so that they're not further suppressed. All you need is a YOGA STRAP. 💁🏼‍♀️ . This gentle assist allows you to quickly and effectively pull the femurs (thigh bones) posterior as the lumbar spine (low back) lengthens.✅ . Goddess Pose.⠀ ⠀ Connecting with the powerful feminine energy with this power posture. The felt experience of empowerment is immediately experienced in the body when in Goddess Pose.⠀ ⠀ To setup into this posture the feet are in a wide legged stance, feet are turned out to a 45 degree angle. As the hips are lowered the knees bend in the same direction the toes are facing. For a more intense posture the arms can be abducted to shoulder height with a slight bend in the elbows whilst the fingertips point towards the sky with palms open or potentially a mudra that connects to you. This version opens up the chest space stretching the pectoralis major as well as engages the rhomboids and middle trapezius muscles. To prevent a swayback the tailbone is drawn downwards which will naturally engages the core, this will protect the sensitive lumbar spine region and assist keeping the spine long.⠀ ⠀ Key anatomical movements in this posture include hip flexion, external rotation of the hip, anterior pelvic tilt, scapular retraction. ⠀ ⠀ Mentally hip openers can be tough as the hips can be quite tight, weak and complex as we spend hours sitting, they are affected by stress, immobility or repetitive movements which can then take hours, days, months and sometimes years to reverse the effects of our lifestyle habits.
