Cool Cool, Now What? is a meditation on acceptance and presence.⁣ ⁣ "Cool" signifies that you have no argument with reality. The moment as you are experiencing it now must be the way it is. It cannot be any other way. ⁣ ⁣ "Cool" signifies acceptance of things as they are. It doesn't mean you like it. It doesn't mean you will do nothing in response. It just means it is OK. Reality is OK, ok? Cool.⁣ ⁣ "Now" signifies awareness of the present. It means this moment is the one to which we are presently attending. It doesn't mean the past and future don't matter. It just means right now, in this moment while you are meditating, you choose to be in the present.⁣ ⁣ "What" signifies an attitude of inquiry. What is happening? What are you noticing? What do you feel? What do you think? ⁣ ⁣ Here is the practice:⁣ ⁣ 1. Sit down⁣ 2. Chill out a little⁣ 3. Pay attention ⁣ 4. Say to yourself:⁣ ⁣ Cool Cool, Now What?⁣ ⁣ 5. Pay attention again⁣ 6. Say it again;⁣ ⁣ Cool Cool, Now What?⁣ ⁣ 7. Do that until you feel like you are done. It can be 2 minutes or 15 minutes. Don't get all weird and intense about it. Even to simple aspects of life you are more available only when you’re in a certain state of pleasantness, isn't it? So let's measure by that standard. If by the day if you are becoming a more joyful human being - you keep accounts of this on a daily basis, ‘From yesterday to today, am I little more joyful?’ If you’re keeping accounts and if you are becoming more and more joyful by the day and your face, instead of becoming like this, is…slowly is becoming like this, that means you’re progressing. Yes, you are definitely progressing; because spirituality is not some nonsense up there, it is about becoming available to life process in its fullest possibility, not just to the physicality, not just to the mentality, to becoming available to life process in its fullest scope – this is spirituality. The time I puked in a yoga class....on purpose.⁣ ⁣ It was in a hotel in Rishikesh. The technique is called Shankhaprakshalana. Referenced way back in the Siddha Siddhanta Paddhati by Gorakhnath in the 11th century. Here is how you do it:⁣ ⁣ First you drink warm, salty lemon water. Then you do a simple series of yoga asanas. Squatting and twisting mostly. Then more water. Rinse and repeat. Until you poop. Then more water and poses. Until you are pooping clear water. It was pretty nasty.⁣ ⁣ Then you need to practice vaman dhauti. More lemon water. But lots this time. Then you put your fingers in your throat and barf. Then you do do jala neti (pour water through your nose.) Then a nap.⁣ ⁣ Vaman Dhauti, sometimes called Kunjal Kriya, is one on the Shatkarmas from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. Normally vomiting is a terrible thing. But the lemon in the water neutralizes the acid. Because there is no solids left in your stomach it is pretty much just water coming back up.⁣ ⁣ It is not without risks. Regular practice of Kunjal can stretch the gastroesophageal sphincter and result in uncontrollable vomiting. And despite some sources saying it is good for constipation, vomiting causes the intestines to move sluggishly. Which means it can cause constipation.⁣ ⁣ The shatkarma kriyas played a fairly big role in hatha yoga for years. It was really only Vivekananda and Krishnamacharya that decided kriyas were too freaky and degenerate and should not be a part of export-quality yoga. ⁣ ⁣ Our ideas about what belongs in yoga did not magically appear. What is and what is not considered yoga are not natural categories. Those categories are created.⁣ ⁣ Yoga today was designed and crafted to be what it is. And that process is not over. Yoga does not exist outside of the imagination of the yogi.
