Con’s of using a camera timer: ▪️ You get a thousand photos which are minutely different from one another making choosing the ‘best’ one SO hard. ▪️ a large percentage of the time you’ll have cut a limb out the frame, or even better, your head. ⠀ Pro’s of using a camera timer: ▪️ You capture cute little in between shots where you’re looking at your pup like he’s the love of your life (accurate 👌🏼) ⠀ So tomorrow is day 4 for #YogaBasics101 and we are doing Yogi Squat AKA Malasana. One of my favourite hip openers and one of those poses where the longer you stay there, the better 👌🏼 ⠀ To enter, take your feet wider than hips and turn the toes out. Squat down towards the heels and keep the knees wide. Rolling up your mat or popping blocks under your heels is a great way to help your hips ease into this if you struggle to drop all the way down. I love the extra stretch I get from taking my hands in prayer in front of my chest, elbows inside the thighs, and then lowering the hands towards the floor. The extra little push from the arms really helps 👌🏼 Try to keep your spine straight and chest stacked above the pelvis. Take the weight into the OUTSIDE edge of your foot as much as you can - try to lift your big toes off the mat to feel it in all the right places. ⠀ My 2 favourite variations to go from here: 1️⃣ Twist - take finger tips out in line with toes. Rotate the torso to aim the chest towards the sky, send the arm up to complete the twist and use your grounded arm to the inside of the thigh to keep pressing back, maintaining the openness in the hip. Pay attention to the other knee and try not to let it flop inwards. 2️⃣ Tippy toes - apologies that Benny is in the way for this one 😂 but one foot remains flat as you lift the heel of the other and shift your body weight over towards that leg. The variation I took here are with feet wider apart, toes turned out, heels turned in (I went for heels lifted for extra torture 😂), while working on dropping the hips down low, sitting up nice and tall. On the other hand, #GarlandPose is technically set up in that your feet are together, hips sink down low and you walk your hands out in front of you. Different ways to try it! Jour 4 de #quelyogiestu. Aujourd'hui on parle du 4e Yama : BRAHMACHARYA et on vous propose une ouverture de hanche. . BRAHMACHARYA, c'est l'abstinence, le contrôle de l'énergie. Je réfléchis depuis ce matin à quoi écrire là dessus car je ne trouve pas ce Yama très facile à appliquer. Si je dois être entièrement franche, je ne l'applique pas et n'en ait vraiment pas l'intention. Je ne suis donc pas la meilleure personne pour en parler. Par contre, on lisant un peu plus sur le sujet, j'ai découvert que l'intérêt de pratiquer Brahmacharya était de pouvoir mieux se concentrer sur l'acquisition de connaissances. Also, one of the best tips I’ve ever heard for getting back to chaturanga from crow or side crow (seen here), it to just let the legs go back. Don’t think about it. Don’t force it. Just when you think the muscles and bones are what matter, you realize there’s a whole lot more going on around our S.I. Joints! When we feel something in this area do we assume that it’s a muscle or a joint? Is there way more going on in this picture than muscles and joints? And this is only a piece of it! When I look at all the stuff in there it’s amazing that we can move around at all and that all this stuff, plus organs, lymph, nerves, connective tissues is always moving with us.

𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄 ⠀ How's your week going? If it's been rather hectic start to your week, here's a flow for a short break. ⠀ Many people stretch different muscles in a static, isolated way. This is actually not very functional. Instead, we can use a flow so that muscles are stretched and strengthened differently from movement to movement. This is closer to how we move in real life, and it’s a lot more functional and a lot less boring. ⠀ Here we do three movements: A yogi squat, a wide stance forward fold, and a flat back pose. ⠀ The yogi squat is an excellent hip and groin opener, stretching your glutes, adductors, and calves. The forward fold lengthens the spine, and both stretches and strengthens your hamstrings. Finally the flat back stretches your hamstrings, calves, and torso. Collectively, these poses help reduce many of the imbalances that lead to bad posture and pain, features of a sedentary lifestyle. ⠀ Lack of time is a common reason not to exercise. A flow like this is ideal because it strengthens, stretches, corrects imbalances and posture, and takes very little time. You’ll get these benefits even if you aren’t very flexible and modify the poses to your level of comfort. Are you warming up properly for your workouts? Warm ups and cool downs tend to be the first things to go when you’re short on time - trust me, I’m guilty of this, too, from time to time! . . BUT, getting your body prepared for a workout is so important, so even when I’m short on time, I run through a few rounds of my favorite dynamic movements, as shown in this video. . . ➡️ Start in your yogi squat and move/sway to open up your hips. This move is challenging, but the ultimate goal is to get your shoulders stacked over your hips and keep your chest proud. . ➡️ place your hands down and lift your hips up to wake up your hamstrings. . ➡️ after a few rounds of the first two movements, add on your plank walkout to push-up, or ‘inchworm pushup’ ➡️ after your push-up, bring your right foot to the outside of your right hand and then rotate towards your right knee and extend your right arm to the ceiling. Repeat on the left. ➡️ walk your hands back to your feet, keeping your legs as straight as you’re able. . . Don’t fret if you feel like you’re not flexible enough to do these as demoed in this video - flexibility comes with practice and time (I also just happen to be naturally pretty flexible 🤷🏻‍♀️), so give it a shot and see how much flexibility you gain when consistently adding these to your warmups! .
