Every time I let go of the need for asana and surrender to what feels good in the moment, I begin to doubt myself. APARIGRAHA 🔗 The idea of non-grasping, or as I like to call it.. non-attachment. What can I say about non-attachment? Well, it’s a life-long practice. As soon as you realize you’re practicing it, the cycle starts again Humans are naturally attached beings. We attach to our identity, our needs, to each other, etc. We attach ourselves with ego & being alive This is a practice I struggle with daily. I have been given signs this year that Aparigraha is the practice I need most. I am attracting lessons to teach me this yama repeatedly until I learn. It’s like they say: this may not be what you want, but maybe it was what you needed Every lesson that comes reminds me that this change feels uncomfortable in the moment. However, this practice is a lifelong one. One that I asked to learn. It is an uneasy feeling to practice some yamas and stay true to yoga. It’s much more pleasant and easy to go back to ways of ignorance/feeding the ego. But these yamas teach us a way of living that helps us in every moment in life, as well as the final moment of life. This is why I practice Day 5 and the final day of #TheFirstLimb 🧘🏽‍♀️ Today we have any #StandingPose to represent #Aparigraha - I went with #HandToBigToePose 💓 Thank you all for exploring the yamas with us! BRAHMACHARYA 🙈 This yama can be loosely translated to many different things in English. The way I see this yama, is that of ‘wise use of energy’ I was taught in my YTT that in the extremes of brahmacharya practice, this means celibacy. Meaning to practice celibacy in every stage of life, unless it becomes a wise use of energy. That being, unless sex is used for its purpose of procreation Obviously, this is an extreme way to view this yama. To me, I see it as simply using your energy wisely. If you know something tires you, choose to use your energy wisely instead of falling into draining patterns You know coffee makes you tired in the crash? Don’t drink coffee. That persons that pisses you off and takes too much from you? Cut off their supply. Staying up til 2am when you have work in the morning? You get the point here: Choose to use your energy wisely Everyday in life we make choices. We are not “just the way we are”. We make a choice to be exactly who we are. For tomorrow, try to become aware of everything you do. What is giving you life? What is draining you? #TheFirstLimb Day 3 #Twist #RevolvedSideAnglePosePrep #ParivrittaParshvaKonasanaPrep for Asteya/Non-stealing My personal experience with Asteya is sourced from the practice of abundance consciousness instead of poverty consciousness. Sharing my art, my passion, knowledge, time and material belongings in hope of uplifting others. Giving credits and acknowledgements to whom it is due. Its easy for the human existence to get attached to material possessions, to covet what is the latest fad and just hoard stuff, knowledge, money, power and fame; thus harming oneself, others and the environment. Asteya helps my human experience be different from what is being marketed to me. It gives me a sense of carving my own path rather than following the old programing of acquiring and traditional beliefs of "having & being" that no longer resonates with me. . . 💖 " How do you use the Yamas as a guide in your life? Catching up on Day 2 of #TheFirstLimb with #OneLeggedCamelPose #EkaPadaUshtrasana as my #Backbends pose focusing on Satya/Truthfulness which is honesty of one's thoughts, words, and actions toward oneself and others. . 💖 My personal experience with Satya is straightforward. I do not mince words and a lot of my family, friends, and colleagues were either aggravated or offended or alienated by my approach. I have to learn diplomacy and right timing so I can communicate effectively the truth without compromising my integrity. A great mentor/friend shared to me, few years ago, to communicate truth from the heart. She said, "If your honesty/the truth comes from a loving place that is meant to connect and clarify, then people can hear it." She told me, "Its how you wield your sword." This practice takes attention and time, a daily consciousness shifting from my personal experience of the truth to considering other's interpretation of the truth. One thing I learned, subjective experience/personal truth is better acknowledged than challenged. Challenging one's interpretation of the truth can be stressful for me. So I usually listen to the BS for a while, gather the facts from trusted sources and share if I care enough to invest in a genuine relationship. . 💖 " How do you use the Yamas as a guide in your life? A S T E Y A This yama is all about non-stealing Today isa short caption to demonstrate why we practice yamas and how practicing these things helps to clear the mind Imagine you walk into a yoga studio for a meditation class. There’s a bowl of donations out for the class. You take some money before entering the meditation room You sit down to meditate, with stolen money burning a hole through your pocket. You sit there, are asked to focus on the breath, but all you can think about is that money. You think about what you did and how it will benefit you.. what you will do with the money You think, you think, you think. The meditation is over and all you did was think about the stolen money. This is a good example of why not to steal.. it just creates more fluctuations in the mind. Day 3 of #TheFirstLimb 🧘🏽‍♀️ Today we have any #Twist to represent #Asteya - I went with #MarichyasanaC — Hosts: @ashtangaash @lindehartmanyoga @yogini.mav @yogiscape 💜 Sponsors: @omstarsofficial @masteryogastore @mala_lesateliersdebrahma @gocleveryoga 💜 ✔️ Day 1: Ahimsa (non-harming) - Hip Opener ✔️ Day 2: Satya (truthfulness) - Backbend ✔️ Day 3: Asteya (non-stealing) - Twist Day 4: Brahmacharya (wise use of energy) - Arm Balance Day 5: Aparigraha (non-grasping) - Standing Pose

S A T Y A Yoga is the calming of the fluctuations in the mind (Sutra 1.2). The path to calm the mind is laid out in the eight limbs (astanga) yoga. To calm the mind, a person practicing yoga will make their way through all the limbs of yoga, until they reach a state of liberation (samadhi), the eighth limb The first limbs of yoga (yamas) outlines ethical practices that a yogi should practice in order to begin calming the mind. For me, I see it as a way to live life in a way where it becomes easier to face your thoughts in meditation (seventh limb) Satya, meaning truthfulness, is being truthful in one’s words and actions. I see this as living an authentic life, with integrity. The face you show the world is an honest reflection of yourself. When we are dishonest, or lie, the mind has more fluctuations, more thoughts. Think about it: someone lies to their significant other right before going to meditation. Where do you think that persons mind will be? Will it be thinking of the lie.. or calm? Not only does being dishonest hurt others, more importantly, it harms ourself. As we learned on Day 1, a yoga practitioner should be practicing ahimsa, non-violence & not harming oneself or others Day 2 of #TheFirstLimb 🧘🏽‍♀️ Today we have any #Backbend to represent #Satya - I went with #Matsyasana 🐠 #FishPose — Hosts: @ashtangaash @lindehartmanyoga @yogini.mav @yogiscape 💜 Sponsors: @omstarsofficial @masteryogastore @mala_lesateliersdebrahma @gocleveryoga 💜 ✔️ Day 1: Ahimsa (non-harming) - Hip Opener ✔️ Day 2: Satya (truthfulness) - Backbend Day 3: Asteya (non-stealing) - Twist Day 4: Brahmacharya (wise use of energy) - Arm Balance Day 5: Aparigraha (non-grasping) - Standing Pose

#TheFirstLimb Day 1 with #HighLungePose as #HipOpener Non-harming/Ahimsa . My personal experience with non-harming is difficult and complex. Let's just say, I don't suffer fools and have no patience for the trivial. Those two on top of a quick temper and harsh inner critic are enough to make the practice of Ahimsa a challenge. I must say that at this point, with the mindful practice of " expect nothing, appreciate everything " I am experiencing more gentleness and gratitude to what unfolds day to day. . . A H I M S A Day 1 of #TheFirstLimb 🧘🏽‍♀️ Today we have any #HipOpener as a great way in the asana practice to practice ahimsa - non-harming to the mind, body, animals, and other beings A lot of yogis will learn how to work with asana (postures) & prananyama (breath) before learning the first/second limb of a yoga practice. This is the way that yoga is being taught today. You go to a studio, you learn how to breath and move, but the philosophy is what is taught when you take teacher training OR when you make a conscious commitment to learning the principles/ethics of Yoga. So, what is Ahimsa? Check out the other hosts for more incredible information about #Ahimsa 💞 Ahimsa to me is non-violence & so much more. The first lesson I learned in my practice with ahimsa, was that of non-reaction. This is a big way that I personally try to practice ahimsa. When I am reacting, I am coming from a place of ego. This mirrors that when I am harming, I am thinking about ME; I am thinking about myself first Ahimsa can be seen in our actions, but today, I will touch upon our thoughts. My belief is that we are energetic & spiritual beings. Our thoughts hold energy, just as our actions relate to karmic energy. When we walk down the street, we can look at people and be quick to make judgements. I believe those judgements send out an energy that is harmful, not only to ourself but also to the other person.. to humanity as a collective whole. I could talk about Ahimsa for another whole challenge, I could talk about yoga philosophy and the way I interpret it for a very long time. But ultimately, we must all practice it ourselves & find our own meanings.. understanding that there is not one, but many truths. As it is said: 1% theory 99% practice — Hosts: @ashtangaash @lindehartmanyoga @yogini.mav @yogiscape ❤️ Sponsors: @omstarsofficial @masterYogaStore @mala_lesateliersdebrahma @gocleveryoga ❤️ ✔️ Day 1: Ahimsa (non-harming) - Hip Opener Day 2: Satya (truthfulness) - Backbend Day 3: Asteya (non-stealing) - Twist Day 4: Brahmacharya (wise use of energy) - Arm Balance Day 5: Aparigraha (non-grasping) - Standing Pose

WHO DO I WANT TO BE? After getting clear about who your Current Self is (see last post for details), the next step is to get VERY SPECIFIC about who you aspire to be! — This is the visualized Ideal Self. Everybody aspires to be someone who they are not currently. If you didn’t aspire to grow, then you probably would have stopped reading this post already 📝 Get out a pen & paper. Ask yourself: Who do you want to be?
What do you want to value? If you have trouble visualizing an ideal self, try to keep in mind someone else that you really admire. What quality do they hold that you like? — Remember that bridging the gap between your Current Self and Ideal Self takes many steps. This change is often quite uncomfortable. If you’re ready to elevate your Current Self, you MUST get comfortable with feelings of discomfort (isn’t that a hard one to swallow 😫). Feeling of discomfort will always be present in making changes; it’s time to embrace it so you can elevate to who you desire to be — I use S.M.A.R.T.E.Y. Goals to ensure that I get positive results when succeeding at goals 🙌🏾 You can too! S.M.A.R.T.E.Y. stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Trackable, Excuses, and Your Mindset. BREATHING FOR ANXIETY
#Yo

Amazing 👍👍👍 #Repost @yogiescape • • • • • BREATHING FOR ANXIETY #Yogiescape #ThursdayTutorial • Do you have anxiety attacks? Or feel overwhelmed and out of control? Here’s a way to breathe to help you feel in control of your breath.. which in turn helps you feel more control in your external circumstances. Start with yourself first! — I played with many ideas for the name of this video from simply “how to breathe” to specifically “diaphragmatic breathing”. In the end, I decided to target this towards those with anxiety, however this style of breathing works for anyone who feels overwhelmed! Breathing into your chest first simulates feelings of anxiety, which can be fine in deep backbends or practiced with the support of your teacher. However, if you’re not in control of chest breathing, it can feel very anxiety-ridden. Even switching back and forth between the two in this video, I felt my anxiety levels rise and I felt more uncomfortable. Its good to start this breathing technique when you are starting to feel overwhelmed. This way, you try to bring yourself out of feeling panicked before you even reach that level of anxiety. The other important thing is to practice this breathing style outside of feeling anxious. Slowing down the breath now comes almost automatically to me because, let’s be real, I spent 2 years LEARNING HOW TO BREATHE! 😅 My advice to those with anxiety is to try to automatize the things in your life that bring you calm. ❤️ Lastly, how you breathe is usually how you feel. If you can practice mindfulness with the breath (especially when you are engaged in screen time, a very non-mindful activity) then you will feel more mindful when you come across feelings of anxiety. — Please comment or DM me with any questions, suggestions, or concerns! I am always here to help you find a way to ease your anxiety and/or depression ❤️🙏🏾 Next week: how to sit comfortably for long meditations! — #anxiety #anxietyrelief #anxietyhelp #anxietyattack #anxietydisorder #anxietysucks #anxietyrecovery #anxietyawareness #anxietysupport #breathingexercises #justbreathe #pranayama #yogaformentalhealth #mooddisorder #mentalhealthawareness #diaphragmaticbreathing

DO I HAVE ANY EXCUSES? “All excuses are equal” and you must get rid of all of your excuses if you want to succeed at your goal. If you have excuses, you have a reason to fail at your goals. You will continuously fall back on these excuses until you let them go. This is usually a statement that brings up more excuses. I share this idea with you because you need to pull at EVERY excuse you have in your mind Here are examples of how to work with excuses: 🖤 I can’t workout because I don’t have energy after work 🖤 I can’t workout because I don’t have the time. These will become something like… 💛 I will use affirmations to tell myself that, “I have energy!” I will modify my workout to my energy level if I am fatigued. 💛 I will wake up 20 minutes earlier so that I can get out of bed, get dressed, and get my cardio on Turn your CAN’Ts into WILLs! Write down all of your excuses. Write ‘em aaaallllll down! Then, change each excuse by writing one of two things: how you will get around the excuse OR an alternative way to think about that excuse. You WILL succeed if you can find a way around every one of your excuses. These little statements create micro-goals that will ensure your success.. they will outline the things that you will say no to, so you can say YES to this goal!!! — 💫 Read The Full Section On Your Excuses In My Goals E-Book —> AVAILABLE NOW (LINK IN BIO) — #excuses #discplined #smartgoals #smarteygoals #goalsetting #goaldigger #goalsetter #bossbabe #entrepreneurlife #headstandpractice #pikeheadstand #consultinglife #healthcoachlife #lifetips #lifehacking #goalplanning #goalslayer #yogiescape #saturdaymornings #saturdays

IS MY GOAL TRACKABLE? This is the EASIEST step of the S.M.A.R.T.E.Y. Goal-Setting Method. You must be able to track your goal! For this step, all you have to do is confirm that you can indeed track your goal every single week. This step ensures if there is any ambiguity in your goal, you should notice it if you have to say, “No, I cannot track my goal” Tracking goals leads to a better success rate because you can see what went wrong and what went right! If you succeed at your goal, you can reward yourself so that you’ll be able to stay on track - without the need of being rewarded by your goal (more on this in the E-Book) Now, answer the question: Can I track my goal? IS MY GOAL REALISTIC? When you say yes to your goal, you are saying no to something else in your life Think about it. When you make time for the gym, you say yes to the gym and no to sitting on the couch. When you carve out time to work on your website, you are saying yes to your business/passion and no to spending time on someone else’s. Whether or not the goal you’re working on is realistic for you will be based off of what you’re willing to give up for it. Maybe all you’re giving up is sitting on the couch (which is a damn good trade off for success 🤩) but sometimes, you’re giving up family time, eating, working, or school… and maybe that’s when you have to reconsider your goal You may have priorities in life that are more important than this goal at this time. You can revisit this goal at a later time, or you can pick a simpler goal to start off with. Remember, you’re constantly moving towards your Ideal Self… the pace is yours to choose! Consider your current lifestyle (and reconsider that Current Self). Is your goal realistic for you? Are you ready to say no to things so that you can succeed at your goal? IS MY GOAL ATTAINABLE? You MUST make your goals attainable for who you are CURRENTLY (not for your Ideal Self). Why?! Because when you set goals that you can’t complete, week after week - eventually… you just give up! The mentality easily goes to: If I can’t do some of it - Why do it at all? Knowing that this is the natural way of thinking, it’s easy to work around this by building goals you can be sure you will succeed at. This is how you build slow momentum to keep moving towards your end goal. The easiest way to know if a goal is attainable or not is this: If you don’t think you can keep up this goal for the next month… the goal is too big of a leap for right now! Now, adjust your goal so that you can confidently be doing it one month from now. Ask yourself: Is my goal really attainable for me and my lifestyle? Can I complete my goal this week/next week? IS MY GOAL MEASURABLE? To set yourself up for success, you need to make your goal measurable and make it harder to cheat! Think about it. If you set a goal saying that “I will go to the gym and do cardio a few times a week”. You could go to the gym and work out for one minute twice a week and say that you reached your goal! I recommend to use the timeframe of what you can do in the next week 📅 Make a decision to track your goals by minutes (e.g. 150 minutes every week) or by the amount of times and minutes (e.g. 3 times a week for 50 minutes). The option you will choose here will depend on you and your schedule If you have a fixed schedule (e.g. you work a 9-5 job), then you may want to schedule your goal specifically into your week. If you have more flexibility in your workweek, then it may be easier for you to schedule in time for your goal as you go. The latter option may also be better for someone who doesn’t like to follow a set schedule… it all depends on who you are and what the next 7 days looks like for you After tweaking your goal to make it measurable, ask yourself: Can I measure my goal? Do I include a concept of time in my goal? — 💫 Join My Mailing List To Get All The Details FIRST About My BRAND NEW E-BOOK 🌟 DM Me Your Email Address & Say “Add Me” ✨ OR Click The Link In My Bio, Choose Email List, and Fill Out Your Info To Join — #tuesdaytransformation #tuesdaymotivation #smartgoals #smarteygoals #goalsetting #goaldigger #goalsetter #bossbabe #entrepreneurlife #ebook #bowpose #measurabledifference #consultinglife #coachingquotes #healthcoachlife #healthcoaches #lifetips #lifehacking #goalcrusher #goalplanning #goalslayer #yogiescape

IS MY GOAL SPECIFIC? Think about it. Which goal do you think is going to yield better results? I want to start working out OR I will go to the gym and do cardio a few times a week You need to be specific in goal setting so that it’s hard to cheat at completing your goals. Get specific with your goal If you want to start working out, define what that means. What is a “workout” to you? If you want to build your website, define what you have to do next. What is the next step towards getting your website built? If you want to start eating healthier, define what “eating healthier’ means to you. What EXACTLY will you do to eat healthier? After tweaking your goal to make it more specific, ask yourself: Is my goal specific? Is there room to cheat? WHO DO I WANT TO BE? After getting clear about who your Current Self is (see two posts back for details), the next step is to get VERY SPECIFIC about who you aspire to be! This is the visualized Ideal Self. Everybody aspires to be someone who they are not currently. If you didn’t aspire to grow, then you probably would have stopped reading this post already Get out a pen & paper. Ask yourself: Who do I want to be?
What do I want to value? If you have trouble visualizing an Ideal Self, try to keep in mind someone else that you really admire. What qualities do they hold that you like? Remember that bridging the gap between your Current Self and Ideal Self takes many steps. This change is often quite uncomfortable. If you’re ready to elevate your Current Self, you MUST get comfortable with feelings of discomfort (isn’t that a hard one to swallow 😨). Feeling of discomfort will always be present in making changes; it’s time to embrace it so you can elevate to who you desire to be I use S.M.A.R.T.E.Y. SO, WHO AM I? The first step to building your perfect goal is becoming aware of who you are currently. Not who you were yesterday, not who you were when you were a teenager. In. This. Current. Moment. This is called the Current Self. To become aware of who your Current Self is, you must be HONEST & AWARE of where you currently are Ask yourself: Who am I? What qualities do I have? What do I do on a daily basis? If I continued doing this for 6 months, where would I be? This is the FIRST step to building a perfect goal. It is part of the “Gap Theory”. The purpose of your goals is to bridge the gap between where you are currently and where you want to be.
