IS MY GOAL MEASURABLE? To set yourself up for success, you need to make your goal measurable and make it harder to cheat! Think about it. If you set a goal saying that “I will go to the gym and do cardio a few times a week”. You could go to the gym and work out for one minute twice a week and say that you reached your goal! I recommend to use the timeframe of what you can do in the next week 📅 Make a decision to track your goals by minutes (e.g. 150 minutes every week) or by the amount of times and minutes (e.g. 3 times a week for 50 minutes). The option you will choose here will depend on you and your schedule If you have a fixed schedule (e.g. you work a 9-5 job), then you may want to schedule your goal specifically into your week. If you have more flexibility in your workweek, then it may be easier for you to schedule in time for your goal as you go. The latter option may also be better for someone who doesn’t like to follow a set schedule… it all depends on who you are and what the next 7 days looks like for you After tweaking your goal to make it measurable, ask yourself: Can I measure my goal? Get specific with your goal If you want to start working out, define what that means. What is a “workout” to you? If you want to build your website, define what you have to do next. What is the next step towards getting your website built? If you want to start eating healthier, define what “eating healthier’ means to you. What EXACTLY will you do to eat healthier? WHO DO I WANT TO BE? After getting clear about who your Current Self is (see two posts back for details), the next step is to get VERY SPECIFIC about who you aspire to be! This is the visualized Ideal Self. Everybody aspires to be someone who they are not currently. If you didn’t aspire to grow, then you probably would have stopped reading this post already Get out a pen & paper. Ask yourself: Who do I want to be?
What do I want to value? If you have trouble visualizing an Ideal Self, try to keep in mind someone else that you really admire. What qualities do they hold that you like? Remember that bridging the gap between your Current Self and Ideal Self takes many steps. This change is often quite uncomfortable. If you’re ready to elevate your Current Self, you MUST get comfortable with feelings of discomfort (isn’t that a hard one to swallow 😨). Feeling of discomfort will always be present in making changes; it’s time to embrace it so you can elevate to who you desire to be I use S.M.A.R.T.E.Y. Goals to ensure that I get positive results when setting goals 🤩 You can too! S.M.A.R.T.E.Y. stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Trackable, Excuses, and Your Mindset. Leave me a comment below and let me know! 💓 I’m curious to hear what dreams mean to you! ~ Lately, I’ve been having some very odd and vivid dreams. I say they’re odd because I haven’t dreamt regularly in the past 8 years. In cognitive science, I learned that there are people who do not dream and after 8 years of not dreaming regularly I thought: THAT’S ME! Fast forward a few months, I start dreaming regularly again 🧐 I can only be grateful that after 8 years of depression cycles and anxiety attacks that I have come to a place where my body can actually relax for 7+ hours a night 🙏🏾 I have been working this past month to let go of things that I identify with my Self that are not serving me (i.e. depression, anxieties, fears, etc.) I believe my health problems with my eye and hand came up to teach me a lesson about what was going on in my mind and how that manifests into the body and reality. ❤️ “Belief is biology.” I guess only we can change those beliefs to shape our own biology. Have you ever heard someone say “it’s placebo, it doesn’t work!” Well my friends, if someone believes it works, and it actually shows a placebo effect that it works for them, then who are we to say that it doesn’t work? A belief holds strong powers over the body. Day 1 of #FlowWristFree 🧘🏾‍♀️ My wrist-free Forearm Plank is Side Plank with added support from my foot to take more weight off my forearm/wrist/hand • I hurt my hand in the last week of January and haven’t done a high plank since. My middle right knuckle has been swollen this whole time. Some days, it reduces, but most days it’s quite swollen as it is my dominant hand and I use it a lot. With the swelling not reducing, my hand is not healing. This has taken me out of a lot of my yoga practice. I am heavy into vinyasa and ashtanga and have had major issues trying to practice these styles since they are hand/wrist heavy. I’ve had to reduce my practice to 1-2 days a week with only stretching and pranayama in between. To be honest, I’m keeping such a positive attitude because yoga is such a huge part of me and without it, I would feel very depressed (that’s why I started in the first place). IS MY GOAL ATTAINABLE? You MUST make your goals attainable for who you are CURRENTLY (not for your Ideal Self). Why?! Because when you set goals that you can’t complete, week after week - eventually… you just give up! The mentality easily goes to: If I can’t do some of it - Why do it at all? Knowing that this is the natural way of thinking, it’s easy to work around this by building goals you can be sure you will succeed at. This is how you build slow momentum to keep moving towards your end goal. The easiest way to know if a goal is attainable or not is this: If you don’t think you can keep up this goal for the next month… the goal is too big of a leap for right now! Now, adjust your goal so that you can confidently be doing it one month from now. Ask yourself: Is my goal really attainable for me and my lifestyle? Can I complete my goal this week/next week? The places I’ve been? I’m a Florida girl but there’s a small town in Georgia that stole my heart about 14 years ago, Dahlonega and from there I went and seen so many beautiful little towns around there! The most beautiful state that I’ve seen so far was North Carolina up in those beautiful blue ridge mountains, my mom lived there when I was a teen and spent summers chasing waterfalls! Stayed up all Night in Las Vegas,The strongest women I know lives in Cincinnati Ohio-my mamaaw. Spent some time in Kentucky and had an amazing thanksgiving in Gatlinburg Tennessee for a mini family reunion spent a summer in Mississippi an I seen just how simple living is! Last week, I wrote a post for FB connecting with all the failures that I faced in University. I hit many of roadblocks along the way which made me want to quit. I put a lot of support in place to stay grounded. I worked really hard to find joy in the life path that was presented to me - a life path that chose me, not one that I chose. Connecting with my failures helped me see the dots in place that brought me to where I am today.
