I got my Ohm tattoo on March 28, 2018. I was in the middle of my teacher training and in the pit of my depression. I was studying yoga philosophy and this symbol, like many, stood out to me the most. So what is ohm? In short, Ohm is the vibrational sound of the universe that connects us all. It is represented by the symbol you see on my left hip. Each curve of the symbol signifies a level of consciousness, laddering up to the final level in which we achieve absolute consciousness and peace with oneself and the divine. When we chant ohm in practice, it is pronounced in 3 separate sounds: A - U - M. So, what do they mean? A: The Waking State (Jurgat). This is represented by the large left bottom curve. It signifies the state of consciousness that is turned outwards and experienced in the world through the five senses. Basically, it’s how you interact and let the outside world affect you. The goal is to get past this state and look past all the noise and impact of the outside world and go deeper to discover our true self without influence. This curve is the largest within the symbol as it signifies the most common state of human consciousness U: The Dream State (Swapna). This is represented by the middle right curve. This lies between deep sleep and the waking state. In this state, we turn more inward and experience the world behind closed eyes. We detach from the outside world and connect to our inner selves a bit more in this state M: The State of Deep Sleep (Subuti). This is represented by the upper left curve. This signifies the state of consciousness where the sleeper is subconsciously shut down. They desire nothing and cease to dream or make any connection to reality. This is essentially our hidden unconsciousness. Things which are not yet revealed to us, the unmanifested. Silence - The Transcendental State: there is a silent pause after the A-U-M. This represents the enlightened self which is the dot above the semi circle that represents illusion (or maya) which separates our experience from the outside world and our enlightened self. The transcendental state is a state of deep consciousness, purity, and clarity. (Continued in comments)

I remember when I first started out as an actor - I was often rushing to auditions, heart in overdrive mode, and learning lines in breaks during my day job. . Yoga was (and still is) a way for me to slow down that rush and, without doubt, has benefitted my performances both physically and mentally. . As a performer, yoga has helped me - gain more mobility and stability - develop control over my movement and breath - become more aware of my physical body and emotions - release tightness and tension - focus more easily and centre myself more readily 😊✨ . Our prep pose is #CompassPose⁣ ⁣ 🔻 Compass pose is a giant pose that stretches the hamstrings, hips, shoulders, & side body.⁣ ⁣ 🔻 Conceptually you can use this pose to point the way to a deeper understanding of how the various parts of the body work together as a whole.⁣ ⁣ 👉🏼 To enter Compass Pose::⁣ ⁣ 🔻 From a simple cross legged position, pick, your right leg up with your shin in front of you & rock it back & forth like a baby.⁣ ⁣ 🔻 Place your right leg as high up on your shoulder as you can, as if you are putting a handbag strap over your shoulder.⁣ ⁣ 🔻 Hold your left hand on your right foot & plant your right hand on the mat outside your right hip.⁣ ⁣ 🔻 Lift & lengthen your spine as you work to straighten your right leg. Take your time!! Your leg may need to stay bent at this point!⁣ ⁣ 🔻 Initiate a twist in your upper body by turning your belly, chest, & gaze up & over to the left. Breathe.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ✔️ PROPS & MODS⁣ 📷 Slide 3 :⁣ ⁣ 🔻 The most useful prop in this pose is often a STRAP. If your hamstrings or shoulders do not allow the full expression of the pose, use a strap to create extra room.⁣ ⁣ 🔻Feel free to keep the top leg bent! Either hold the leg with the opposite hand or not. Turn your torso in the opposite direction to work the twist regardless.⁣ ⁣ 🔻 To work on the twist with a hip stretch, leave the bind out. I’ve been having a hard time recently remembering that my worth is not based on likes and engagement on Instagram. I often feel like I don’t offer enough on my page. Häufig sind wir so im Alltagstrubel, rennen von einem Termin zum nächsten und unsere Gedanken überholen unseren Körper, indem wir entweder am Ende erschöpft ins Bett fallen oder gar nicht schlafen können😞 Kommt dir das bekannt vor? Den Tag lässt du fliegen, in dem du ihm die Möglichkeit gibst schön zu werden und in dem du dich überraschen lässt. Damit meine ich nicht dich vollkommen treiben zu lassen, ausser dein Tag lässt es zu😉 Doch, was wäre, wenn du mindestens zwei Abende die Woche hast, die nicht verplant sind? Selbst wenn du Kinder hast, lasst euch gemeinsam überraschen. Vielleicht entsteht was ganz Neues oder ihr nehmt euch Zeit, um einfach mal langsamer zu machen. Was wäre, wenn du mindestens 30 Minuten am Tag hättest, die nur dir gehören? (Steigern kannst du das immder noch 😍) Ohne Smartphone, ohne Lärm, möglicherweise bewusst mit der Person deiner Wahl. Lass jedem Tag Flügel wachsen. Selbst, wenn du entscheidest, dass der Flug nur ein kurzer ist oder du deine Flügel auf dem Boden bewunderst. Das Leben ist zu kurz, um Tage abzuarbeiten und zu warten bis der nächste Urlaub ansteht... DOLCHE FAR NIENTE 《The Sweetness of Doing Nothing》 If you've watched #eatpraylove recently then you probably remember this quote from Italy. Not only does the Italiian phrase sound beautiful, but the English translation really spoke to my ♡. . . I've heard more than a few times "oh yeah I don't like yoga, it's too boring." And here's my question, what's wrong with that? I mean I don't find yoga "boring", not in the least! I also love quiet time, me time, self care time, journaling time, self reflection time and mindfulness. And all of this is yoga to me, and all of these are why yoga connects to my soul in such a deep way. . . Yes I love the physical benefits of yoga, and they are amazing! But I'll tell you what keeps me coming back to my mat, everything else that comes with my yoga practice, the mindfulness, the spirituality, the soulful connection I feel, the quiet, the grounding, these are what draw me back, what I long for everytime I step on my mat. And I hope I create a space where others can find these and whatever other benefits they desire when they are doing their yoga practice. . . So maybe I'm boring, but maybe I'm just tapping in to something a little deeper. Maybe I'm starting to really discover "the sweetness of doing nothing"♡ . . I'd love to hear what brings you back to your mat again and again? Or maybe what keeps you from your mat? I also have my list for that.
