Follow @yogadailytutorial ☘️ The wall is a great prop when learning an inversion like Forearm Stand, but it’s benefits are only felt if done with the right understanding of alignment to be achieved through the assistance of the wall. . The thing about inversion is that it starts before we invert. The setup is just as important (if not more!) than the final pose. Before even jumping into a forearm stand, when in a three-legged dolphin, I like to go through a little checklist in my head: ✅ Push the floor away to activate the shoulders ✅ Belly into the spine ✅ Lift the hips and feel energy lifting upwards by activating that deep abdominal core (mula bandha) ✅ Press thighs towards each other ✅ Square hips ✅Flex top foot to keep the entire leg active, especially the thighs . Only when I’ve check everything off in this list, then I try to hop. . The key to the hop is to just move that three legged dolphin shape by stacking the entire body above the shoulders. A lot of times we try to push the hips forward as we hop, which means the spine starts to curve and the energy sinks down towards the shoulders. Instead, think about keeping the entire middle of the body - the ribs, spine, hips, and thighs - as one unit, and the top foot leading the way to stack that entire unit (as one) above the shoulders. Again, think about that checklist and maintaining all the bits in there WHILE hopping. . Don’t worry about both feet going up together. Tried meditation? Hasn't worked? This is for you👍👇 . . Sadhguru: The moment we utter the word “meditation,” there are all kinds of misconceptions about it. First of all the English word “meditation” doesn’t mean anything in the sense, if you close your eyes and sit, in English we call it “meditation.” You can sit with your eyes closed and do many things. There are many dimensions. You can do japa, tapa, dharana, dhyana, samadhi, shoonya. Or you might have just mastered the art of sleeping in vertical postures! . So what is this thing that we call as meditation? Generally we assume that people are referring to what is known as dhyan or dhyana. In that context of referring to dhyan as meditation, it is not something that you can do. Nobody can do meditation. The reason why most people who have tried meditation have come to the conclusion that it’s very difficult or impossible is because they are trying to do it. . You cannot do meditation but you can become meditative. Meditation is a certain quality. It is not a certain act. If you cultivate your body, your mind, your energies and your emotions to a certain level of maturity, meditation will naturally happen. It is just like if you keep the soil fertile, if you give it the necessary manure and water and if the right kind of seed is there, it will grow and bloom into flowers and fruits. . Flowers and fruits will come out of a plant not because you want it, but simply because you created the necessary, conducive atmosphere. Similarly, if you create the necessary atmosphere within yourself, on all the four dimensions of who you are, then meditation will naturally flower within you. Day 7 of #InversionEvolution and I can't believe its the last day⠀ . 🤸‍♀️This has been soooo fun - and we have ended on a high, as high as we can get - on our hands 🙌🏼 . 🤔 Did you know that a handstand in Sanskrit is directly translated as Downward Facing Tree Pose 🙃🌲 I went with a literal downward facing tree pose just bc I am a smartarse 🤷‍♀️🤣 . 🤸‍♀️This is also the transition that I am teaching my students at the moment, from the Primary Series Warrior 1 ➡️ Warrior 2 ➡️ JUMP BACK ➡️➡️➡️ you kick into a upside down tree and then back. P is for Power Yoga. Contrary to this vid (soz 😖) The traditional Power Yoga sequence doesn’t include any fancy pants arm balances or ‘advanced inversions’. The Power Yoga sequence builds strength and power in the physical body through a solid foundational practice that enable insta yoga postures and practices like these. We build from the foundation up, working through a series of postures that make up the collective sequence. Although it has some parallels to other schools of yoga, unlike Ashtanga, the sequence is not 100% prescriptive so there is ‘freedom’ in being able to adjust the sequence to your needs and time availability, with the caveat that the order of the series within the sequence remains the same. Confused? Intrigued? I’ll share more info in the run up to the Master Class with @dylanayaloo on June 29th. Every once in a while, I just need a big dose of yoga. As a teacher, it can be hard to find time (and energy) to practice, and my focus lately has been more on strengthening (hello, boxing and trx) than stretching. So it was time to treat myself. Did you know that by building the strength in your hamstrings, you can also gain more flexibility in them? Yoga focuses on stretching the hamstrings a lot but not necessarily building strength. Building the strength of these muscles also helps create more flexibility. So if you find that you stretch your hamstrings frequently but that you're stuck at a certain point with no progress, try doing this a few times a week too.
