Hanumanasana or splits is a challenging pose on the ground with the assistance of gravity. Standing in the splits is more difficult because there is no gravity to assist with the depth. While I’ve had full splits in my practice for years, finding a fully vertical standing split didn’t happen until more recently. And only happens now with a lot of warm up. Opening hip flexors and hamstrings to your depth on the floor first will help with the depth standing. My favorite standing splits prep pose is to use a wall to deepen the split. Without the assist of gravity, I use the leverage of my arms to deepen the split. When I’m against the wall, I engage my muscles as if the wall wasn’t there, once I’m in my deepest expression. Doing this before the unassisted version (on the left) always helps me find more extension in my top leg. 😊

For day 5 of #YogiThankfulness I thank Instagram and IG yoga community. I'm thankful to this platform for 3 things: education, inspiration and motivation. I've already mentioned it in my posts that IG has a great educational potential. It's not only a platform for stalking your exes and envying your former classmates 😁 Here I found a lot of skilled yoga teacher  posting free tutorials, “how to”-s and other useful information. So you can actually practice yoga using only IG and no other resources 😃 As for inspiration, I often borrow ideas for my pictures from other talented yoga bloggers and some yogis borrow mine, so this is a great way to share and exchange creativity. Finally, blogging is motivational, because it puts a certain responsibility on me. People are watching me, so I can't just give up. I always have to work harder, to grow, to make progress and share it here. My persistence motivates others and so we spread this positive impact. Soo, first day of #workyourweakside 🌟!! And we have #splits . . This is some of the asanas where I *clearly* have a weak side, and it’s with the right leg on front (the first pic -I’ll be posting the weak side as first pic and the good one as second to compare). I still can go down, but I require a lot more warming up and I can’t keep the hips squared!!! ◾️ - Which for me it’s the most important thing to watch out in a split!! -if I go all the way down my hips open 😤 and can’t twist the torso so easy as in the sec pic for example, where my hips are more squared. . This is another attempt at posting. I received a negative comment earlier which resulted in me deleting this post. The comment was inappropriate and objectified me and I was taken off guard. I am new to this very public platform and I am here to share and connect with other yogis, runners, health enthusiast, foodies, coffee lovers, people in general ❤️. These past few weeks I have encountered nothing but kindness and encouragement 🙏. My page is about my yoga journey, fitness, health, growth, acceptance, kindness and encouragement. If you have nothing appropriate to say, kindly refrain from commenting. Thank you. I worked hard for Pincha. Even then it’s not perfect. A work in progress still. I practice until my elbows are blistered. Why? Because it’s a challenge, because it is beautiful and it takes from me discipline, focus strength and patience. I am so thankful for what my body can do. My kids tell me good job Mommy! Even when I fall over time and again ❤️. I hope that in there somewhere is a lesson by example for them. Tenacity and patience. This is my typical practice, I almost never catch it on the first try. How long did you practice pincha? Any tips for progressing? Inhalando regresas nuevamente a la postura anterior y entras en la torsión de la postura o Trikonasana “B” - exhalando giras el pie derecho hacia la derecha girando las caderas para que se encuentren una al lado de la otra, haces una torsión desde la cadera izquierda a través de toda la cintura para poder llevar la mano izquierda por fuera del borde externo del pie derecho manteniendo el brazo derecho extendido y en dirección al techo. Mantienes 5 respiraciones en esta postura llevando la mirada hacia la mano derecha. Inhalando regresas a la postura anterior: pies paralelos, piernas extendidas y brazos extendidos con las palmas de las manos hacia abajo. Al exhalar haces el lado izquierdo de la postura girando el pie izquierdo hacia la izquierda girando las caderas para que se encuentren una al lado de la otra (de manera cuadrada), haces una torsión desde la cadera derecha a través de toda la cintura para poder llevar la mano derecha por fuera del borde externo del pie izquierdo manteniendo el brazo izquierdo extendido y en dirección al techo. Mantienes 5 respiraciones en esta postura llevando la mirada hacia la mano izquierda. Desde Samasthitih y con la primera cuenta de Utthita Trikonasana y mientras inhalas das un paso con la pierna derecha hacia atrás, creando una distancia de separación entre los pies de aproximadamente tres pies, extiendes los brazos paralelos al piso a nivel del pecho. Después y mientras exhalas, giras el pie derecho hacia la derecha, extiendes el torso hasta tomar con la mano derecha el dedo pulgar del pie derecho sin flexionar las piernas y el brazo izquierdo lo mantienes extendido en dirección al techo. La mirada durante las 5 respiraciones que mantienes en esta postura es hacia la mano izquierda. Inhalas y subes el torso regresando a la posición anterior.
