Do you have a book you’ve read so much the pages have come loose and they’re covered in coffee stains (matcha in my case)? 📚 That’s me with Essentialism - I first read it about 4 years ago and every time I pick it back up to read it again I learn something new. My lesson this time (which maybe something I’m relearning actually 🤔 #slowlearner ) 👉🏼There is a different way of doing it all without it negatively impacting your wellbeing! This is a part( a very small part. Lots missing today!) of my super enthusiastic, gungho Tuesday/ Thursday batch of students. They are super regular and have made phenomenal progress in different ways! Sometimes one wonders at the relevance of making it to a physical place , to get your fitness in. It's all that effort; waking up, getting dressed, driving/ walking to class. ...I mean after all there are SO many online videos available with fantastic teachers in any fitness field. I would still choose a class. And the answer is very simple. Besides the obvious, that is you get real time corrections to your posture and movement , there is also the intangible benefit of a class. We are all social beings and social beings love to interact. In a class, there is laughter, camaraderie, friendly ribbing ( including ribbing the teacher) , encouragement, corrections and most important of all, appreciation. There is nothing that can replace the feeling of belonging that you get when you attend a class regularly. ...the other students and the teacher become a quasi family. And is'int that what we all want? To belong? So do make your tribe. Form the kinship and then nuture it. Big smiles today as I got to spend time on the Ocean. I was always drawn to mountains and the forest, found renewal in being surrounded by trees. Here in Hawaii, I find myself drawn more and more to the water. ~ So today I went out of my comfort zone, faced my unfounded fear of Sharks and started the journey towards Paddling. It's physical but awesome in the way, I'm learning new ways to move, working in community with others all while embracing the culture in which I live. ~ Paddling is something to learn and respect. It is a connection to spirit and nature. Feeling very blessed to have the ability to have this experience and commune with nature as well.

Do you have a hard time finding balance? ✨ ▿ For many years, I did (and still do!). Some days it’s there, while other days it’s a work in progress. It wasn’t until I discovered Ayurveda that I realized balance isn’t static - it’s ever changing. Ayurveda offers ancient wisdom through spices, meditation, self-care practices and more to help us stay radiant by harmonizing us with the rhythms of nature. Are you using your butt to walk? The Glutues are a powerful group of muscles that are designed to help us walk and run. Due to footwear and inactivity, we have forgotten how to use our feet and hips for efficient movement. . Lengthening the spine is definitely my favourite alignment cue for standing and balancing on one leg. @leslie.kaminoff spoke about it so brilliantly in his Yoga Anatomy book (Axial Extension). . Besides lengthening the spine, working on hip mobility is especially helpful. I always feel great after actively lengthening my hip flexors and quads. I am able to perform hip extension with greater ease when I walk. . Try it! And let me know if it makes any difference for you :) Full video link in bio

But, what about the Butt? ⁠ ⁠ The gluteus maximus plays a crucial role in improving posture because it is responsible for the power of the pelvis and legs. It also supports the spinal column at the lumbar region.⁠ ⁠ A weak gluteus maximus can cause anterior pelvic tilt, where the #pelvis tilts forward and butt pops out a little. If the #psoas is weak and overstretched, it can flatten the natural curve of the lumbar spine, creating a “flat butt”. This also makes it vulnerable to injury, and can cause pain and instability at the front of the hip. Summer Melon 🍈 Salad 1/2 cantaloupe (cut into 4 slices) 2 cups watermelon (cut into 2inch cubes) Pinch of sea salt Pinch of freshly ground black pepper (Optional) 8oz lump crab meat (Optional) 4 tablespoons goat cheese (crumbled) 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 4 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil On serving plates, divide cantaloupe slices and cubed watermelon. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Top each serving with whichever fixings you like. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar and oil. Serve chilled.
