My favorite #yogasutras to follow from the Patanjali Yogasutras (2/3) . | Vrutayaha panchataiyaha klishtaklishtaha | . Maharshi Patanjali describes 5 kinds of thought processes/ cognition or conscious mental states (vruttis.) All our thoughts can be segregated in these 5 categories. Furthermore he says, all these thoughts can be klishta- harmful, unnecessary, negative or akishta- postive, helping, rooting from love. 1) PRAMAAN- correct cognition Eg. The sun exists with or without day or night. Pramaan can help in progress of science and the self. Yet, truth can hurt people, destroy them (we've all been there one time or the other) 2) VIPARYAYA- inccorect cognition/illusions Eg., Our beliefs, opinions based on half truths Viparyaya is knowing a thing as different from what it really is. All presumptions and assumptions of the self or the others is viparyaya. These assumptions and presumptions can help us react (klishta) or respond (aklishta) to everything around us. 3) VIKALPA- imagination Eg.,In its literal translation is, based on verbal cognition in regard to a thing which does not exist yet. In its aklishta form, creativity and creation stems from imagination. In its klishta form, anything from jealousy to greed to anxiety can stem from just imagining things. 4) NIDRA- deep sleep Eg., I slept well. How do you deduct that when you were unconsious? In nidra the body and the mind is non-functioning, yet, when we wake up, The mind tries to conclude knowledge about what happened in that state. So, when you say, you had a good nap and hence, you feel better or you slept poorly, hence, you feel heavy or restless; the mind is trying to give you information about that which it is not aware of at all. This makes nidra negative or positive. 5) SMRUTI- memory Eg., All things of the past. Memories leave a lasting imprint on your state of being. Everything from trauma and it's consequences to nostalgia and it's heart warming effects to reactions (klishtic) or response (aklishtic) to similar situations, are based on your memory . So day or night the SCN will tell the peneal glands to secret the hormone melatonin which will induce sleep. So if your eyes has picked up the radiation from the TV no melatonin, instead it will activate catecholamines (hormones which put your body into flight mode) are secreted by andrenal glands above your kidney. It will also interfere leptin hormone which is secreted by fat cells and decrease its level. This hormone asks you to stop eating so if it is increasing then your brain will ask you to start eating. No booz before sleeping: what am I talking about its saturday night, right? Alcohol is thought of as something that helps you in fall asleep, well that's not entirely untrue. It helps you in falling asleep but prevents you from entering deep restorative stages of sleep. In this stage our body carried out all the repair and restore function. Ahhhhh.. Inhale the good shxt, exhale the bull shxt. 😌 The air feels a lil different right now. I’ve purged a lot and I feel incredibly lighter these days. Releasing toxicity has been my theme for the past couple of weeks and I must admit that there was a good amount of resistance to switching up some of my routines. But now my space is clearing up and so is my skin. I’ve been rearranging my space and creating good #fengshui. I’ve been extra intentional about what I put in and on my body. I’ve been on this pescatarian journey for about two years and I’m now exploring dairy-free products to see what happens with my digestive system. (All suggestions are welcome!) I’m also trying new hair care and skin care regimens. What brands do y’all like? 👀 OAN: I cannot wait until Sunday y’all! We broke a record with the attendee signup this event.
