Each day we connect to to the elements through the practice of yoga and hands on activities such as making eco friendly biodegradable wish lanterns and planting fresh succulents to bring back home. TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY! 🌱 How do we rewrite our learned actions or our behaviors to be more skilled? We begin by actively learning new behaviors to get new consequences. Finding the space between emotion & action is something I teach a LOT about in my classes. Does this mean I am perfect at it? NOPE. Does it mean that I teach it because I need the reminder. YUP. Before you get tangled up in a negative response (see what I did with the picture there 😂) ask yourself "Does this benefit myself and others?", and then maybe go one step further and ask yourself "Why am I reacting this way?" Often times what is on the other side of the "why" is where your work needs to be done. Had to repost our wonderful teacher @hannahlakeyoga story! #inspirationwomen Posted @withrepost@hannahlakeyoga POWER SKILL FOCUS I like these 3 words. They represent what I aim to help foster in my students and what I persist in cultivating in my own practice (particularly pertinent currently as I re-build it after pregnancy hence this slightly dodgy #pinchamayurasana practice this evening on the patio. The road back to stable inversions... will be a long one I think 😆) They may not be words that resonate with everyone in relation to yoga and that’s ok. They are true to where I am in my relationship to the discipline and to what I currently understand of the science related to the human body. First up: POWER. i.e strength. Super important for all bodies irrespective of age, gender, ability level. But Power is more nuanced than strength in that it describes, for me, the effective use strength in order to perform the action. The action might be #forearmbalance, reaching something heavy from the top shelf or hitting a golf ball (you get my drift). It needs to be balanced with flexibility (more on that in relation to SKILL) but it has value in its own right. It isn’t vain or egotistical to want to develop it, its useful and functional. POWER is also mental and emotional. Associated with confidence, self-control, the ability to choose and to self-determine. It doesn’t have to be selfish or domineering. Next time, SKILL...
