Wow Day 6 already for #GetDownAndYoga can’t believe how fast this challenge has flown by! So many gorgeous folds and backbends in the gallery!! 🙌😍 Tomorrow is my fave, plank or arm balance so I’m low planking and flying into EPK2. Groovin to electro by @tloopmusic please check him out. Vid speed x 1.5 💕💕 . . Arm balances rock my world, ever since my first crow I was hooked. However, the journey took forever to fly in EPK 2, my back leg like a sack of potatoes. One tip that helped me is to walk the back leg in, while holding strong chaturanga arms to find that sweet spot of leverage. Then shine the heart forward to counter the weight of the back leg. Once there is lift off, think of your legs like wings, energy radiating through the toes and crown of your head. . . What I love most about arm balances is the prep, which is always a workout and then the attempt to balance is joy in itself. And tons of laughter. I mean, how many times have you laughed at yourself trying an arm balance for the first time? And we keep wanting more 😍😍 . . Shall we talk about this monstrosity 🙈🙊🙈🙊🙈🙊🙈🙊🙈🙊🙈- well it isn’t really in reality, it’s a working progress . Yep I can’t do this. Come on - balancing on 1 hand, splits and deep side twist should be SO easy right??🤣🤣🤣 On the list of things I can’t do - jump through, jump back, handstands, pincha without wall safety, flying crow, EPK, tripod headstand, among various other things - AND thats okay! . Things I can do -.-.-.-.- keep trying! . Instagram is VERY deceiving. Everyone doing the perfect asana, and you can compare yourself so easy and not feel good enough. I have progressed so much this past year it’s incredible. I am a relatively new yogini, who started taking yoga seriously when I did my YTT this time 2 years ago. Before that I flirted with the idea on and off for a few years so had a bit of a base. After I experienced how much I connected with the practice I took it seriously - I would have been crazy to ignore it. . On IG and before you start to compare yourself - when you actually look into people’s histories, many who can do these crazy things come from a dancing or a professional gymnastics background or have taken YEARS to create a solid yoga practice -.-what I’ve learnt from my own practice - Progression takes time -.- You can be good at one thing and not something else -.- Learn to be patient -.- Learn about your body -.- listen -.- Learn about connecting body and breath -.- Learn how the mind reacts -.- Before people attempt the crazy more complexed asanas that seem so easy on IG world, firstly be aware that some of these people are professional athletes, trained at the craft in asana for many years or simply lucky it and it appears to come very easy. Don’t be afraid to start with the basics. Have a solid base. Don’t chase the asana, let it come to you . .-.-.-.- Enjoy the journey! .-.-.-.- . Welcome to Day 2️⃣ of #GetDownAndYoga! My heart soars seeing all of your beautiful warrior poses!! Thank you for participating! It’s not too late to jump in! . I dunno about you but Goddess requires a whole lotta mental fortitude for me, not to mention open hips and leg strength 💪🏼 I trick myself into staying in it longer by thinking of it as a dance. I know, I said pretty much the same thing about Warrior yesterday. . But guess what? You ARE dancing when you're doing Goddess, because Goddess is just like a second position plie in ballet! 🔸To prepare for Goddess, I like to do malasana, but instead of sinking my bum toward the floor for a yummy release, I squeeze my pelvic floor muscles to hold my bum higher up off the ground and simultaneously push my knees outward with my elbows. You can sit on blocks or a stack of books to make the posture more comfortable. 🔸While hanging out in Goddess, try working your port de bras and eleve (fancy ballet terms for arm movement and toe stand). It'll distract you from the fire building in your legs. 🔥 . I included some textual cues in my first video. Second video is a brief alignment tutorial. Give it a try! Trick yourself into staying in Goddess, or strike a pose Vogue-style! 💁🏻‍♀️ Can't wait to see! . Check out my beautiful co-hosts for more inspiration! When my anxiety first started getting severe, about 2 years ago now, I started this process of journaling. I always held so much inside, hid from social situations, buried feelings so deep. So I thought being vulnerable on a place where vulnerability isn’t common (social media) would begin a healing process for me. And it did. So much. These past few months though, I haven’t been journaling. Or posting. And I didn’t realize the impact it had until yesterday. When I broke down completely in front of my YTT training group after teaching. My social anxiety came back to haunt me. I stood in front of this amazing, talented, strong group of women and felt small again. Felt like I couldn’t be a leader. I always shield away from everything social. Hid in the corner, far away from the spotlight until I shrunk so small, I felt like no one could see me and I was safe. But that isn’t living. That’s hiding. I don’t want to hide anymore. I want to find the strength I found so long ago. I want to pull myself out from the shadows again.
