Almost there😲🤸🏻‍♀️ . I thought I will post a handstand photo again, because there is never enough of them, right @martinfrankyoga ?🙄😂 . Taking a photo or a video is the only way I am able to force myself to work on the handstand without wall or sofa behind me😐 No wall means proper warm, up in case I fall back, and nobody has time for that😅 But you know what? I didn’t fall back once today💪 Also I was trying to press the second leg, and that’s the scariest part, if you jump into an L-shape like me and you “like” to fall into the wheel🙈 But today it wasn’t scary at all😲 . If you have a similar fear, holding you back, don’t feel ashamed to use props☺️ It’s all about the journey, choose the path that suits you, and maybe you will be slower, maybe your technique is just terrible, but you will enjoy the process the same way🤷‍♀️ . #yogaisajourney #movementculture #handstandpractice #handstandtips #yogainversions

It’s crunch time. Less than one month til our first 300 hour RYT program in partnership with @swedishinstitutenyc . Even though @victoriayoffie and I have been teaching 500 hour RYT programs for years, we’re obsessively thorough and we end up preparing as if we’re starting from scratch. #laboroflove For the next month, I will be knee deep in yoga philosophy. Ya know, surfing the cosmos, demystifying the ineffable ... seeking sweet spots between poetry and science. It’s All good. #500ryt When I get too heady, (I know, totally antithetical to the whole yoga vibe) I take refuge on my mat. I opt out of my usual practice, which would be too slow, subtle and boring to share on IG 😂. Instead I blast some fave rock band , usually from the 90s, (class of 1993!) and let the nostalgia wash over me. I connect the asana with the music and forget about myself. Phew! #freedom The bottom line- Yoga comes in many forms. There’s no right or wrong way to practice. For most of us, the running monologue in the back of our minds can be negative, critical & unkind. We might find that it’s constantly undermining our value, judging the way we look, critiquing the things we do & valuing others shitty opinions of us. Complete with a head shaking #kittycameo from #zoewiththefunnyear 😸 while the original attempt at this in 2015, on the right, required the wall to not only balance it but to hold the shape. I balanced this without even needing the wall on tonight's first try. Not even to beat the timer. Taking a break from leatherworking/journals/chainmaille to digest my weekend ... I completed my yogafit level one teacher training (the last of my life goals ... currently cooking up some new ones😂) and I am ... I don’t know yet. I’ve been following my yoga journey for the past year and a half and it has been such a huge part of the healing process; I have been through anorexia, compulsive exercising, PPD, depression, and now anxiety, and one of the reasons I am now completely in love with this training method (initially I chose it because that’s how my mom has pursued her own certification) is the transformational language-as you may imagine, the words I have used to and about myself have never been loving or kind, and having been very, very competitive I have not done a good job of paying attention to what certain body parts are saying, and that has resulted in so many injuries. Changing the way I talk to myself about my journey, changing the way I view modifications and props or even taking certain poses completely out of my practice ... I have such peace right now. Which is nice, since being a small business owner means I frequently judge myself against last year’s numbers and there’s always another destination to get to, and it’s hard to enjoy the journey ... I like that at least one aspect of my life has no end goal, it just is❤️ #yoga #yogafit #yogaisajourney #artbywordsremember

That happens when life happens and takes you away from your practice for a very extended period of time. That's why I'm doing my best to do some piece of yoga, every single day. Even if its standing around in Tree pose while I chat with people. I mean, I did it out of habit for years, anyway. Now, I'm just more conscious of it. There's an old picture of this somewhere, and the bind exists with my heels on the ground. I wasnt worried about that picture, because this one was today. Yogis are known for their non-violent ways but why are many yoga poses named after warriors (Warrior I, Warrior II & Warrior III)? According to yogic philosophy, when we stand in a “warrior” pose, we are taking the stance of Virabhadra, a fierce warrior who was at Shiva’s command in the Bhagavad Gita. In Warrior I, Virabhadra arrives at the party with two swords in his hands ⚔️ In Warrior II, he sights his target, Daksha. Finally in Warrior III, he finds & decapitates his opponent with his swords... • At first glance, this story seems quite brutal, but Virabhadra’s battle serves as metaphor for our emotional battles. As yogis, we often overlook negative emotions, believing we need to eradicate these emotions from our lives. Because eliminating hardship from our lives isn’t feasible, it’s inevitable that we will experience anger, jealousy or bitterness from time to time. We all experience little battles throughout the day whether they be with our partners, friends, family or bosses. And that’s okay! Being a “yogi” isn’t about existing in a permanently blissful state; it’s about successfully navigating the often complicated world of human emotions.
