How long should I hold a stretch? ๐Ÿค” . If youโ€™re wanting to improve flexibility, holding your stretches for at least 1 minute is a good target ๐ŸŽฏ Our muscles have a natural stretch reflex (which stops sudden excessive stretching & protects us from injury) SO, if you are purposely stretching to gain flexibility you should aim to gently stretch through this reflex... Flexibility is all about time under tension, it takes around 20secs to ease through the stretch reflex & then all the gains happen after that! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜ If you focus on taking big breaths it also makes it wayyyy less painful & easier to get deeper ๐Ÿ˜Œ . BONUS...hereโ€™s my personal secret to really improving my flexibility: Stretch everything twice over! @miss_sunitha Working towards Tittibhasana/ Firefly Pose . This arm balance works equal parts strength and flexibility. Although the hips needs to be open enough to bring the thighs by the shoulder, the ability to stay in this pose is all about: 1๏ธโƒฃ Stability in the hips - pressing the thighs inwards & hugging the outer hips in; and 2๏ธโƒฃ Lift in the core - finding the lift in the base of the pelvic floor, and creating that slight scoop to lengthen the tailbone down, simultaneously engaging the lower belly. . The first 3 poses focuses on the flexibility aspect of the pose - hamstrings and outer hip. But even so, the above mentioned 2 stability points should still apply. Instead of letting the legs relax, work on pressing the thighs inwards, hugging the outer hip in. And in all these poses, the lift in the core should still be present (think mula bandha). . The 4th & 5th pose works some of the strength aspect that is usually forgotten in this pose - the strength of the hip flexors, and the lift in the core to keep the hips lifted. In both these poses, try to keep the legs relaxed and focus on originating the lift from the core. You can round the back a little and think about lengthening the tailbone down, almost like youโ€™re scooping the lower belly in slightly. . Tortoise pose is a great prep pose without adding the arm balance element. Make sure the feet arenโ€™t too wide apart (mat width apart), and keep working on pressing the thighs into the shoulders. And even here, the lower belly should be active to keep the spine supported. . Swipe โฌ…๏ธ to view a video of the last 3 variations. If itโ€™s a challenge to keep the leg on the shoulder, bend the elbows to the sides a little to create a mini shelf. If placing the palms flat on the floor is a challenge, use blocks under the palm. . Work first on lifting one foot off, and trying to straighten the top leg. Also consider working on hip lifts - place a block under the bum, and work on lifting the hips and slowly lowering back down. This gives a good understanding on how to eventually lower the hips with control in the full pose. . And if it feels good, fly!

Ok.. so itโ€™s officially COLD outside.โ„๏ธ When the temperature starts dropping, for me personally, and I think many of us, we can go into that hibernation mindset, where all we want to do is hide away in bed. Even me; who is yoga mad, can struggle to pull myself from under my duvet and make it onto my mat. . However, I know just how important it is to stay with our yoga practice and keep our bodies moving!!โคต๏ธ . A physical practice can help us keep warm, build heat and prevent those regular aches and stiffness in our joints that comes with the cold weather. As well as this, a regular physical and pranayama (breathing exercises) practice, can help strengthen our bodyโ€™s immunity, helping us fight away all those colds and viruses floating around. AND I donโ€™t know about you, but theres nothing better than that post yoga high!! The dull, gloomy weather outside can automatically start to make us feel a little low and lethargic in our minds and bodies, so sticking with our practice is an instant way to give us that little mood and energy boost! . That's why when the temperature starts dropping, I make it a priority to include yoga poses/sequences to accumulate the cold weather into my personal practice, as well as the classes that I teach in order to warm up all of our bodies!! . So when you find it hard to step onto your mat, think about your practice as a means for caring for your whole well-being.โค๏ธ Happy Sunday everyone!โœจ

I have been having this feeling that we all need this reminder. I know some if you don't feel like you are worthy of giving yourself time, love, joy, abundance...either because you think you did wrong or because your confidence has been slowly beat down by your own mind, society or your family. . There is a way to reshape and reengineer these thought patterns through our breath. . Try this kundalini inspired exercise when you are feeling super deflated and unworthy and use the words above to remind yourself that you are so worthy. . 1. Set the timer for 5 minutes 2. Inhale until you literally cannot take in anymore 3. Breathe from your skin, your eyes, your ears...from within 4. Let it all go after 5 minutes and remind yourself that your capacity to receive is far greater than your fears. 5. Start with 1 minute if 5 is too much โ™ก

How ?!ย ยป And sometimes like last week i push my curiosity forward and move myself into new territory. And there it is a #supersoldier ! This physical aspect of yoga is truly fun and helps you understand your body a little more everytime. Feeling #blessed to be able to move that much ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ .
