F I N D | Y O U R | W I N G S . Bhujapidasana is my choice for the last day of #YogaHeartHealing ! . A little back story: before yoga, I was weak and had no strength at all. Some people can pop into crow their first time trying. That wasn’t me. I couldn’t hold a plank for even 10 seconds! So now when I see what my body is capable of, especially the things that take upper body and core strength, I find it hard to believe it’s me. . I love Bhujapidasana because it’s a such a dynamic pose. You can swipe to see what the transition looks like for me at the moment. As I get stronger I’ll be working towards jumping in to the posture and getting my Bakasana higher. It’s a work in progress anyways! . From day to day we experience our fight or flight response. We cannot flee, we cannot fight. We cannot run away from what is perceived as a threat. When we are forced to face our modern day sabre tooth tigers, we are required to sit in the traffic and learn to control ourselves. Overall most daily occurrences contribute to activate our fight or flight response, causing aggressive behaviour. It’s believed that we often grip the hamstrings when entering fight or flight mode, which makes sense if the body is preparing to run off to safety. We all experience times when our ‘Blood is boiling’ Chinese medicine and yoga relate anger to the liver. It is believed that the liver helps to clean the blood by breaking down fat cells and produce energy. Relating to our third chakra, the Manipura Chakra, the energy storehouse of the body. . Yoga twists can help to to cleanse the liver and release anger, by wringing out the internal organs. As if wringing out a dish cloth. . For Day 3️⃣ of #YogaHeartHealing we are exploring #twists . #YogaTwists also #strengthen and #stretch the muscles of the back and sides, they stretch the pectoral muscles and fab for toning up! They are believed to help with gastritis and strengthen the intestines. From a personal experience of having had lots of my bowel, intestines and part liver cut out (bowel and liver cancer, don’t freak out the liver regenerates) Twists have helped my digestive system in ways my diet cannot. Since experiencing cancer, my diet is limited to certain food types. I avoid most fruit and veg as my digestive system cannot cope. Day 2️⃣ our focus is #backbends Backbends do not come naturally to all, me being one! ask yourself how you feel after a backbend. You should have the sense of feeling clear, open, grounded and above all pain free after your practise. If you feel anything in your lumbar spine ask yourself why. Are you entering a pose gymnastically, relying on your hyper mobility or entering the pose yogicly. It’s quite different. However, they are definitely well worth making the effort for. In hatha yoga we prepare all elements of the body for the focus pose of the class. The postures are broken down and worked in stages. Making entry into the pose safe using props and modifications where necessary. Why back bend? * They #stretch and #strengthen : Stretching the entire length of the front of the body, whilst strengthening the back, arms and legs. Resulting in better posture. Most modern day tasks hunch you forward. Backbends help to open the chest and stabilise the shoulders. * They help you breath: Whilst stretching the muscles that help you breath, the diaphragm, lungs, and intercostal muscles the result is better breathing in daily life. * They lift you up: backbends are uplifting, stimulating, energy boosting postures. * They are empowering: they bring a sense of freedom, release a sense of lightness and spaciousness within the body. ✨Your wounds are your wisdom✨ The humbling path of healing trauma and wounds turns us into wiser, compassionate and kind beings Weather you are experiencing physical, emotional or mental pain, it is our willingness to accepts what is and observe with an equanimous mind that lets us hear the voice of our inner guru. On the path of healing we find the message in our mess when we are vulnerable, deeply honest and show compassion towards ourselves. Then we can let go of our story and transcend the weakness into strength. We all have a place of well-being, bliss, joy, and perfection within us and injuries, trauma, emotional pain is a means so that transformation can occur. We are called to return to this place of truth and from that empowering place we can reach out to help others find it, too. Yoga and Meditation is the true source of genuine healing.  When you allow yourself to be in stillness you can restore that natural healing process of your body and soul. As I am on a journey of deep emotional healing since more than a year and facing ups and downs with an shoulder injury for more than 6 months now, experienced a lot of releasing of resistance and turning the voice of my ego down. I developed a deep gratitude for my practice and an openness to see things differently. I appreciate my lessons and the knowledge I gained through adapting my practice to my bodies needs and learning new methods to heal emotional pain and trauma. Most importantly I found new motivation and inspiration through the community on IG. That is why I decided to join my dear friend and goddess of strength, grace and positivity @Andreamegale.yoga for this challenge showing what it means to have faith when life throws curve balls at you and how to use the power of our practice even when you cant practice. 💪N A V A S A N A 💪 . for Day 7 of #yogahearthealing - my personal most empowering asana! . Stimulating of the third chakra #Navelchakra this asana has made me so much stronger in my body and mind. . From the very beginning of my yoga practice in the #primarseries and very much through Brock and @krista_cahill_yoga my first #vinyasa and #handstand teachers in LA who taught me how to do more than 100 of them with one class, I felt the power of this asana. When you can make it through 90 minutes of 108 Navasanas in 108 degrees in LA, then you can do anything you aim for in life. . Today I work this pose more from a #pilates approach similar to the #teaser to address more the deeper core muscles and less the hip flexors and quads but still I feel an instant boost of confidence, stamina and tapas rising whenever I do it. . AND best #sdy pose ever and suitable at almost any location with any outfit! . . . It was my highest pleasure to play with all you guys this week for this lovely #yogachallenge. . There’s always magic arriving to a space before teaching. A sense of calm as I begin to tune in to the moment- what the best offering would be. This was taken at the beautiful @willardbeachstudio before teaching my Saturday yoga class. Tomorrow after a Breathwork client at my home studio, I begin a 7 week noontime Friday Breath & Mindfulness Meditation class as part of the Lunch & Learn program at Diversified Communications for staff. This year has been the most challenging year of my life. I separated from the man that I thought I would grow old with. I wasn’t happy and after I tried everything I could think of to make us work I decided for the sake of our and his children to move out before we started hating each other. It’s been so hard and some days I spend hours of crying or hiding between classes in my bed. I’m not good about showing or sharing my sadness in public, but I’m working on being authentic and being ok of showing my vulnerability. I’m battling with guilt, shame and the thought of have given up to early. The work I’m doing to heal isn’t pretty, it’s raw, it’s brutal and some days it feels like I’m drowning and I’m never able to come back up. The fear of not finding a place for my daughter and me that I can afford in this crazy expensive city and her emotional well being is tearing me apart, but I won’t give up hope or to fight. I came to this country almost 10 years ago, hardly speaking English and cleaning houses for a living. I know I can handle this as well, but I wish I could look into the future and just see everything turned out well. My dreams are big and I won’t give up till I reached them. I’m calling in the divine to support us during this time, thank you to all my amazing friends who are supporting us emotionally. Thank you to all my students for allowing me to do what I love.
