Some days aren't your day and for women it's not always a case of "just one of those days" The menstrual cycle can have a massive effect on performance in the gym and it's completely natural! The first phase of your cycle (follicular phase) is when estrogen is at it's highest. Estrogen has a positive effect on mood, energy and strength so it makes sense that training in this phase feels at it's best. Also towards the end of this phase ovulation occurs and this means a big increase in all hormones including testosterone so don't be surprised if you're hitting PB's around now! Next comes the luteal phase where estrogen dips but rises again along with progesterone. Energy, mood and strength and recovery can be effected in this phase. So when you're next in the gym and perhaps not feeling your best like I have felt this week give yourself a break. Not everything is in your control and it's not the end of the world. PB's next time 💪💪💪

The best part about this difference is that I wasn’t trying for it to happen. Several months ago, a five year old broke my finger. I was off the ice in case I fell and injured it more and wanted to maintain my lower body strength as I had just landed new jumps. I started weight training. I was active before but never had done much with weights. It made me be and feel stronger and also caused me to lose fat, gain muscle, and become more toned. I do not and will not ever subscribe to any type of “diet.” I eat what I want, when I want and this includes sweets. I eat sweets daily and fully advocate for people listening to and following their cravings. I do often avoid drinking my calories be it alcohol or soda unless I really want it as those are the things that most easily sneak up on you. Plus, I like to stay hydrated with water. My motivation was to get stronger and to honor and nourish my body. That’s important. If you’re motivated by a number on the scale it’s likely you’ll fall into unhealthy habits after not seeing a rapid change. It’s all about moderation and lifestyle. Plus I love lifting weights and strengthening my muscles. It’s a huge stress relief and makes me feel great for the rest of the day. #fitness #weighttraining #lifting #cardio #moderation #sweets #balancedliving #antidiets #change #strong #womenshealth #womensfitness #motivation #beforeandafter #weights #weightlifting
