DID YOU KNOW THAT IT WASN’T UNTIL THE MID 20TH CENTURY THAT DIAMOND WEDDING RINGS FOUND THEIR WAY INTO THE HEARTS OF MILLIONS OF WOMEN? The history engagements ring dates back to ancient Egyptians and Romans, however, these rings were much different from what we are used to today. Well, actually, one of the first documented diamond engagement ring was commissioned in 1477 by Archduke Maximilian of Austria for the Mary of Burgundy, the daughter of the French King, with an “M” formed with diamonds. This is said to have set a trend for rings with diamonds among the novelty of that time. But the story of Archduke and Mary of Burgundy was still a long away from when rings with these precious stones reached its popularity. It all changed in the late 18th century when diamonds were discovered in South Africa, and DeBeers company was founded and starting mining them, later also gaining control over 90% of world’s diamond production, therefore, they were able to control the prices, creating “scarcity” of these jewels. WWI and the Great Depression stopped their efforts, people simply could not afford such an expensive product. However, once the world started recovering, they were back in business, creating one of the most successful ad campaigns of all time – “A diamond is forever.” 1947 was a year, when the concept of a diamond on an engagement ring spread all around the world, becoming even more popular after appearing in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes – becoming iconic. Everyone has their own opinion on diamond rings; we believe that it is the choice of every couple and bride, whether they want a diamond or a sapphire or ruby or maybe nothing at all, a ring symbolizes love and commitment, so it already carries beauty in its meaning. What is your opinion? #KSENIARIDOLFIWEDDINGS Wedding planning and concept: @ksenia_ridolfi_weddings Rings: @cartier @diamondcrush_jewelry Photo: @tanjakibogo_photo
