Let’s talk about Self Love. It’s our mind’s natural instinct to self preserve, protect, and shield our bodies and heart from hurt. But in today’s day and age, social media changes that. What was once instinctual is pushed aside and replaced with the evils of comparison and lack of self worth. But let me offer some perspective. We are now taught that when we struggle with comparison to “self love”. Which is a valuable concept; to embrace your flaws and look at the beauty in them that makes you unique. This is a fantastic idea if it’s something you can’t change...but what about the things we have the power to make different? Rather than focusing on loving my present circumstances, I’m learning to love 𝐶𝐻𝐴𝑁𝐺𝐸 & 𝐺𝑅𝑂𝑊𝑇𝐻. We are blessed with the ability to freely choose certain aspects of our life, and this isn’t something that should be taken for granted. So many things in life are out of our control, but our self-worth doesn’t have to be one of them. Don’t just love yourself for who you are, but love yourself for who you are becoming. You are growing. You are goal oriented. You are adapting. Perfection is unachievable. Period. Finally got to meet the legend @beastmodejones after I've been following him for years. He hosted a school supplies drive and opened the gym to the public. Awesome guy and even funnier in person. W2D4: today kicked my fucking ass. It was a really good workout, but it was a grinder for sure. I realized that I missed 2 sets on my tops RPE weight last week. Doing the right amount of sets and increasing the weight really whooped my ass. I had a lot of issues with bar placement on my low bar squats. The bar kept rolling on me. In one of the videos you can see the rerack fail. Luckily it was light, so no issues there. Squat strength, however, felt great. My shoulder was HOWLING after squats, so benching sucked - still was able to progress and just grind through it. Sumos felt great, except for having Taco Bell last night. I was definitely playing with fire there and had a couple close calls 🤣🤣😜😜💩💩💩 Videos are Squats 345x5 @ 7 RPE (total sets were like 9 ie fatigue) Squats 315x5 @ 6 RPE and a re-rack fail! YATTA! I really wish I had gotten this on video but I somehow managed to do 165x2 on my bench!!! :D technically 165x4 but the last two reps my spotter helped me. I'm so happy because 9 years ago I was struggling on 85 and now i somehow managed to double it!! And to think I used to hate lifting so much I would make up excuses to not go to the gym lol. Anyway, as I mentioned 2020 I'm making plans on competing and before that I'm hoping to hit 315 on squat 400 deadlift and 200 bench. Not the prettiest form, but finally hit a PR (it’s been a few years...) of 155 kg. Hoping to hit 160 before the end of the year (with a better form). Rep work feeling decent, video is set 4 and noticed my hips were kind of high, so made sure to go deeper for set 5 (though not recorded due to ppl). W2D3: really solid bench session today. Weight was moving easy and shoulder felt about better.time warming up. Watched some of coach's YouTube videos and really felt a lot better in moving the weight. Getting more comfortable in my set up. Getting a little bit of a better 'arch' (I'm fat we dont arch) and really getting leg drive down. Really happy with how my bench is progressing and loving that I'm moving 3 plates for reps. Whatever ever change you’re looking to make, there will be elements that require you to do things which make you uncomfortable. Getting up early to go to the gym, lift weight for more reps than you’d like to, meal prep, eat more vegetables, say no to that second serve of ice cream. If you think change is going to be easy, think again. It won’t be. When you see someone lifting weights you wouldn’t believe they could possibly lift, assume that doing so is not physically or mentally easy for them. Training can be enjoyable; sometimes you’ll have a great training week, your weights are relatively light or, in hindsight, you enjoyed the session more than you did at the time. But that doesn’t mean every session will be easy or enjoyable. Those who achieve the results they’re after are the ones who push through the necessary physical and mental barriers that challenge them. Accept that training isn’t always going to be easy, and you’re setting yourself up to perform in situations where you need to, but may not think you can. That’s where positive change occurs.👊
