W1D1: pivot week. Today was a struggle to get to the gym. Today was just about showing up. Loads were meant to be extremely conservative. I did, however, want to work on speed a bit. Coach had called me out about my effort on squats on each rep before the competition and I truly think that showed up on game day. I got called on the up and down because I just dont think I've done a great job practicing being explosive. This lead me to think about all of my lifts and I really think theres an opportunity to get a whole lot stronger here. I watched coach's video on YouTube about velocity in lifting. Check out the @brazosvalleybarbell YouTube page. It's an awesome video. Theres an entirely different level of effort I can bring to my lifts. I tried it across the board today through my warm ups into the working sets. It's a lot harder than it looks. I ran out of gas relatively quickly, so when I did I just went through the motions on the remaining reps. I AM pretty sore from Sunday still. W15D4: MEAT DAY! This is going to be a long post. Get over it. Overall, I'm thrilled with how today went. I PR'd across the board and am really happy with my total. This was my 1st powerlifting meet and I really learned a lot through this process. I absolutely love this sport - this was way more fun than when I did a bodybuilding show. The comradery amongst the guys I was competing with was super awesome. Everyone was so supportive. Squats - my best lift was my 2nd lift of 450. I honestly did not feel confident in squats as I was warming. My top set of 460 was called for being up and down. I finished the lift, but completely agree with the judges on the call. 450 is a 5 lb PR for me Bench - bench fucking flew today. This gave me so much confidence for deadlifting. 380 is a 10lb PR and moved like an RPE of 6 here lol. Really happy with coach's direction and thrilled with that lift. Deadlift - coach told me after bench to go pull something big today and I feel like I hit what I wanted to hit. I PRd on my 2nd attempt at 470 and felt just really comfortable with going at 490 here. I wanted to end the meet on a high note and I almost broke down in tears after I hit this lift. This is a 25lb PR. I'm thrilled I left this meet with more in the tank. I need to really work on my squats and have so much more confidence in bench and deadlifting. This year has been a whirlwind of a year. Between tearing my achillies, getting promoted, the miscarriage and Sammie getting pregnant again - just emotions all over the place. The journey to get to today was a lot more than just lifting weights - it's been the culmination of an emotional roller coaster this year. I'm super thankful to everyone who has supported me throughout everything. Lots of love to family and friends. Special shout out to @drdpt1 best PT ever. No way I compete today without her. The absolute best and such a good friend now! @davidwoolson an amazing, supportive coach. So thankful I decided to submit an app to work with him and he decided to say yes. @sammie_pie_rose1515 my beautiful, amazing wife. So thankful for everything you do and all your support.
