THE HIP THRUST - must be THE most popular exercise among women. That's one more reason to know how to do it right!⁠ ⁠ Swipe for bad form:⁠ ⁠ 1. Feet too far away from your body ( you want your heels to be directly under your knees for best butt activation), otherwise you're working your hamstrings. ⁠ ⁠ 2. Feet too close to your body - this way a lot of work is done by your quads, you also put a lot of pressure on your knees by not keeping your feet flat and going up on your toes. And most importantly, you're hardly working your bum if you're doing it this way, you can't fully lock your hips and squeeze your butt if your feet are too close.⁠ ⁠ 3. DO YOU OFTEN EXPERIENCE AN ENERGY CRASH MID-MORNING or MID-AFTERNOON?⁠ ⁠ What did you have to eat before the crash?⁠ ⁠ - If it's mid-morning, what if anything, did you have for breakfast?⁠ - If it's mid-afternoon, what if anything did you have for breakfast and lunch?⁠ ⁠ The 2 of the above are intertwined. If you start your day with a poor breakfast e.g. just banana or just toast; it'll require no time for your body to digest and it'll go straight into your blood stream. 30min later there will be no trace of that food and you'll feel the stomach throbbing hunger, followed by a crash. ⁠ ⁠ If you then have a coffee or a coffee and a sweet snack to 'revitalise' yourself, you'll repeat the cycle above PLUS⁠ add an unnecessary stress (in the shape of a stimulant = caffeine) to your body. ⁠ ⁠ If you repeat this cycle a few more times before dinner time, you've now knackered your system with a 10 hour up-and-down hunger-tease responses, your willpower is gone and your energy levels are non existent!⁠ ⁠ You come home eat a massive meal, drink half a bottle of wine and go to sleep. To repeat it all over again the next day!⁠ ⁠ TO SUM UP:⁠ 1. you wake up, tease your body with a high sugar, teeny snack; ⁠ 2. at work you get by with 5 coffees and some 'Nature' bars from the vending machine;⁠ 3. you overeat at dinner time and round it up with alcohol⁠ 4. you go to sleep exhausted, but your body doesn't get a good rest, because alcohol DISRUPTS SLEEP!⁠ 5. As a result you wake up grumpy and still tired!⁠ ⁠ If this sounds like you:⁠ BREAK THIS CYCLE AND MAKE FUELLING YOUR BODY PROPERLY, YOUR PRIORITY! Doing only weights and no cardio or the other way round is like trying to catch fish with bare hands - it works, but it’s not optimal. ⁠ ⁠ Weights are paramount for strengthening your bones and muscles. Regular weight training will shape up your body making it look tight and fit as well as contribute to increasing your metabolism and fat loss. ⁠ ⁠ Cardio is paramount for developing a resilient cardiovascular system, stamina and overall fitness. Squat-Morning: when instead of sitting down, you’re trying to deadlift, but because the bar is pushing you down from the top of your back, it looks like you’ve folded in half and about to break your neck! Really bad form! It hurt my soul filming it; and it can seriously hurt your back! 2. Bounce Squat aka Slut drop: when you bounce up as soon as you’ve reached the bottom of your squat. Not good for knees and not great for building strength as you use momentum rather than leg drive. 3. Tip-toe Squat: sub-optimal on so many levels! Your feet are not solid on the ground means you can’t use your legs to push yourself up, which means you’re either going to fall or perform the above Squat-morning. THINK OF IT AS A LIFESTYLE NOT A COURSE OF TREATMENT⁠ ⁠ In my opinion this is the top culprit for weight re-gain! ⁠ ⁠ We’re often starting out on a fat loss journey with an end in mind!⁠ ⁠ It’s like a fast paced treatment course we want to quickly dive into and come out slim and fabulous on the other end! ⁠ ⁠ We rarely approach our fatloss journey with a bigger picture in mind - to get stronger, to be more energetic, to live longer etc. In other words, we rarely approach the fatloss journey as a lifestyle or a new chapter in life. If there's one thing you take away from my profile is that technique is KING So! Let's see how a good ✅ and a bad ❌ deadlift looks like! Swipe for bad form ❌ 1. Squat-Deadlift - a very common mistake originated with the misconception that you're meant to deadlift the way you squat. Wrong! As you completely miss out on working on your HINGE pattern as I teach my clients, and therefore not getting the benefits of strength and muscle a good deadlift can offer. 2. Classic hunched back deadlift - it doesn't work ANYTHING the deadlift is meant to work (that is the WHOLE back of your body and core) and it can cause some serious injury at the price of NO GAINS - NOT a good TRADE-OFF in my books! 3. Touch and Go (not quite in my execution LOL) - that's when you're not resetting your form every time you touch the ground, resulting in losing your core and lats and dumping the whole load of the bar onto your lower back. Does this sound familiar?⁠ ⁠ You’ve been really ‘good’ with your new fitness plan, losing weight, feeling energetic, looking fabulous. Then you went on a holiday!⁠ ⁠ Now you’re back and you can’t seem to get your mojo back! ⁠ ⁠ Every day you tell yourself : ‘ tomorrow I’m starting my day with a light jog, a yoghurt for breakfast and I’ll stay on track for 1500 kcal’. ‘Tomorrow I’m going to the gym first thing in the morning’ etc.⁠ ⁠ Only that tomorrow never comes and every day you feel worse about your body, less confident and you feel like you’ll never be able to achieve your ideal bodyweight/look and that you’ve failed! ⁠ ⁠ I feel you! I’ve been in this situation many times! In fact, that’s how I felt for over a week after my holiday at the beginning of this month! ⁠ ⁠ I’ve not found a way to not feel this way yet, but this is what I do when it does happen:⁠ ⁠ Take a step back and look at myself from an outsider’s point of view. This gives me some perspective.⁠ Keep trying! If you’ve been on a fat loss journey for years, it’s important enough for you to succeed! Don’t give up on your goal! Make a new plan up, tweak the old one, whatever you need to do! ⁠ And remember, you haven’t failed. You just took a break. You found a way that doesn’t work.
