But public awareness about the loss of wildlife through deforestation caused by palm oil crops is growing, and there's mounting pressure on retailers to reduce their sales of palm oil products, or boycott them altogether. . . . An outright boycott on palm oil products could actually lead to more problems for forests and wildlife. The evidence: . . . A recent report by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, concluded that boycotting palm oil would merely shift – rather than counter – losses to rainforests and wildlife caused by agriculture. . . . Put simply, boycotted palm oil would need to be replaced by other types of vegetable oil to meet global demand – and that could actually make matters worse. This is because, compared to other common sources of vegetable oil – such as rapeseed and soybeans – palm oil crops yield four to ten times more oil per unit of land, and require far less pesticide and fertiliser. In fact, palm oil makes up 35 percent of all vegetable oils, grown on just 10 percent of the land allocated to oil crops. . . . One major challenge facing the sector is that less than 20 percent of the world's palm oil is currently certified as sustainable. 🍎 This Cinnamon Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Apples Recipe is a healthy and easy side dish that is perfect for Thanksgiving! 📷 by @joyfoodsunshine 🚨🚨Recipe: 2 medium sweet potatoes 4 cups, cut into 1” cubes 2 medium apples about 2 cups, cut into 1” cubes 3 TBS coconut oil melted & divided 1 tsp sea salt 2 TBS pure maple syrup 1 tsp ground cinnamon Instructions Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Grease a large baking pan, set aside. In a large bowl, toss cubed sweet potatoes with 2 TBS of melted coconut oil. Stir until coated. Add sea salt and stir until evenly distributed. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 min, stirring halfway through, until sweet potatoes just barely start to brown. While the sweet potatoes are baking: stir the remaining 1 TBS of coconut oil into the apples. Add maple syrup and cinnamon and stir to combined. After 20 minutes, or the sweet potatoes have begun to brown, remove the sweet potatoes from oven and add the apple mixture and stir to combine. Return to the oven and bake for 20 more minutes, stirring halfway through. Once the sweet potatoes and apples are browned and the maple syrup has caramelized on them remove them from the oven and serve immediately! I usually have no issues finishing my plate, but these deluxe nachos had me asking for assistance. (Good thing for teens) they are soooooooo delicious.
