🐕Puppy pose or Uttana Shishosana is a great pose for stretching the shoulders and thoracic spine (upper back). If you have slouched or rounded shoulders or increased kyphosis (outward rounding in upper back), this pose is for You! Puppy pose is great for all levels. I demo variations of the pose for beginners (Level 1) to more advanced (Level 3) just go with the variation that's best for you. Use caution in doing any type of physical activity, especially if you are injured or recovering from injury🐕 . . ➡️SWIPE for Levels 2 and 3➡️ . . 🙏Thank you to @kickitwithkateri for providing the inspiration for this post. I don't think it addresses what we were discussing but it was inspired by that convo! So thank you!🙏 . . 🤓KEY POINTS 1. Feet, knees elbows and hands shoulder width apart. Start with knees directly under hips. You can start with knees wider if balance is an issue. 2. In level 1, keep forehead on floor and one arm bent while the other extends. Sink ribs and chest toward the floor. Roll toward the side of the extended arm for deeper stretch 3. In level 2, extend both arms. If you can lift your head and want a deeper stretch, place your neck on the floor. Keep walking fingers forward and allowing the chest and shoulders to drop toward the floor. 4. In level 3, extend both arms straight out and place chin on the floor. Work to straighten both of you legs as well. 5. Try to stay in any level of the pose for at least 5 inhales and exhales. 6. Day23/30 of #doyoumeditate @doyouyoga challenge - #extendedpuppypose or #uttanashishosana is like the perfect combination of Downward Dog and Child’s Pose, and can be used as a variation of either. Also referred to as #meltingheartpose , this posture quite literally invites the heart to melt down toward the ground, stretching the spine in both directions. I find this pose very calming, it allows me to not think about things outside my #practice Makes me focus on my breath and creates more body awareness. #yogaeveryday

Puppy Pose 》Quite possibly the most necessary pose for anyone who spends much time sitting. Option 1: stand and do this against a wall, reaching the butt out and the chest into the wall. Option 2: do it lying face down on the mat (like you see here) but with the knees lowered. Option 3: lift the knees as pictured. . For the month of May I have been sequencing my classes around the heart chakra 💚 #anahatachakra super intimated to bring this not only into my classes but into my personal practice. I felt a HUGE imbalance in my heart and I didn’t know what this practice was going to bring up. The first 2 weeks were rough- I was so drained- physically, emotionally and mentally. I honesty didn’t want to keep my commitment. I felt like I was in deeper hole than when I began..I was extremely over whelmed with feelings and negative thoughts. This past week something changed.. I started to feel better- my heart started opening- I’m beginning to find abundance in every aspect of my life- I’m starting everyday with my open heart and an open mind.
