Snatch high speed pull drills are often performed with leg split in #china. The reason is to reinforce the rhythm of a full #snatch with an emphasis of increasing the speed of leg split to initiate a more conscious downward movement after extension. Chinese athletes are taught to slide their feet outwards in order to shorten the time and distance the feet have to travel. #Efficiency is key. . We recommend starting at a lower weight ie around 40-60% of your max snatch to work on your technique; once proper technique is mastered, you may go heavier (up to around your max snatch) for sets of triple to enhance neurological adaptation. The hand and wrist position overhead in the snatch or jerk needs to provide the most security and stability possible with the least strain on the joints. . Imagine your arm and hand like the post and cradle of a squat rack. The wrist should be extended so the base of the palm is directed somewhat upward. Position the bar in the palm, slightly behind the midline of the forearm. Then simply close your grip around the bar. . Grip tension should be only what’s necessary to maintain control. Excessive grip tension reduces the ability of the elbows to lock out completely and at maximal speed. . Holding the bar farther toward the fingers with extreme wrist extension places dramatically more stress on the joints and reduces stability. Such a position will also often cause soft elbows overhead. . This positioning is typically a compensation for limited shoulder mobility because it allows the lifter to move the bar farther back without opening the shoulder more. It can also result from never having developed the strength to support a better position, nearly always resulting in a dependence on wrist wraps even with light weights. . A neutral wrist position creates instability because the hand is equally prone to rocking in both directions rather than being pulled constantly in one direction. A neutral position also places more strain on the wrist and demands a more active grip just to keep the bar secure. . Experiment with minor adjustments to this basic position until you find what provides you the most stability and security with the least discomfort. . What a PR ride for Carmen these last two weeks. First, she cleaned 83kg off a deficit (second video with yellows inside) with her best clean previously being at 78kgs. Easily demonstrated in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting & Powerlifting, the whip of a bar can play a significant role with making a lift. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Think about when someone catches a clean or hits a split jerk. When the weight starts to get heavier you’ll see the bar begin to flex around the lifter. That flexing, followed by the bar straightening back to its original position is the whip. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ It’s particularly helpful in Olympic weightlifting when you can properly utilize the energy from the whip. In Powerlifting it comes down to preference. USAW New England Classic Meet Recap- Getting ready for Masters Nationals! @cjkoesler killed it this weekend, going 6/6 on her lifts and PRing her competition snatch and her total. She ended up taking first in her weight class and first overall in Master’s Sinclair. . After what can only be described as a very vocal weight cut leading up to this meet Christine hit all her targets and crushed it. USAW New England Classic Meet Recap- Her first official oly meet! @le_shinggg has been competing in powerlifting for about a year now, but this is her first time stepping onto a USAW platform and becoming a true super total athlete. . She went 3/6 on her lifts- after a tough start on the snatches and some unlucky judging calls she pulled out some rock solid clean and jerks to finish out the day, building a 109kg total for her first meet and coming home with third place in her weight class! .
