Alignment comes before everything else in my life. Yoga tunes my instrument to a harmonic vibration. Everything I learn on the mat can be used in life - breathe with presence, transition slowly, open further, feel deeply, listen more, resist less, strengthen through consistent practice, don’t take yourself too seriously, and always... take a long nap afterwards. The belief that I can do anything, that I am already magical, that I am far, far more capable than I can even imagine, that I can get through anything in life with breath and presence, and the teacher in me were all born on the mat. One of the best parts is that yoga will benefit your life instantly - the moment you come to your mat. You don’t have to wait two weeks for “results.” The moment you allow your attention to fall to your breath and stay there, you’ve already received a gift that will deliver throughout the rest of your life. It is that easy. Go to your mat and breathe. Shame is tricky. When asked how I was by a friend I responded with a quick “busy!” before diving into the details since I’m preparing for two weeks of travel. Her response, “I don’t know how you can want to travel so much!” Enter > SHAME 😣 My brain immediately went to .. “I’m a bad mom for leaving my kids. If I was a good mom I would be home all day everyday with my kids like she is. Maybe I shouldn’t do this for myself. Maybe I shouldn’t include travel when teaching yoga.” The list went on and on and the shame piled higher. I could feel the tension build. Mom guilt and mom shame are a doozy! . . I got off my phone, rolled around on my mat, and recentered myself. I softened. I put myself in her shoes, I showed a little extra grace, I read some strong words about shame by @brenebrown, and then I pulled my luggage out of my closet 😏. #RISINGUPSTRONGER

LIttle sister, for you to project so much ugly outside, it must be so shitty inside. You must be so empty. You must hurt. To call me evil, you must have recognized your own. To want to cleanse your space, you must have seen and smelt your own filth.This evil has only tried to heal you, lift you, be there when no one is willing. When you came a knocking to find this evils light, what evil was there to stop your self killing? Like I, they have all left. This must be why. There is a void down deep people can see. you are incapable of love, love of self, in a quickness they flee. It is not love you feel but a uncontrollable urge to feed. Fill up this hole down deep, for later you'll sink, and soak up, for later to read a kind of fantasy bedtime story folk. Your imaginary key. Obsessed with their absence when it becomes hollow again reset this cycle for you. Pushing even farther from yourself and the ones who actually have loved you. This last stop, this last meet has be a bigger picture window to see. That there is truly nothing here to reap. The land here is barren. Desolate toxic infectious. Cold, not free. We are now strangers, those two little girls are dead. they float along with the  collection of others in your deserted sea of sand. You never wanted this evil here because you have never liked or let alone loved it, who knows if you were ever able to. The praise, adoration and love from many you see this evil awarded, is the very reason you depise it. You crave so much to be liked, to be loved. But you are devoid of authentic emotions towards others. Get close enough you never fail to show this. Slipping through the cracks your issues shine, you are truly potent. It reeks here, the lower vibrations are pungent. Trying your hardest to fill your life with what externally surrounds you, like this is true care for self, like this is true mastery of life. This is what makes you superior right? With all this you are still very empty. You are so so ugly. What you physically build is not your legacy, but what lies internally, and how it touches the world, baby girl. I leave you with true love and wisdom. I leave part of my legacy for you to keep. I won't be back.

I love me a good backbend, but I will be honest, they are something that I have had to and continue to work hard at regardless of what may appear. They can be quite complicated as they require strength and openess in a LOT of areas beyond just having a “bendy” spine. This is why it is SOOOOO important to make sure you are plenty warmed up and open before dropping into one of these little diddy's. Urdhva Dhanurasana // Last month I saw a bear up close while I was camping at Yosemite. It was about 6:30 in the morning, and I was out by the river to do some yoga. The bear was just about 30 feet away, tearing at a fallen tree and eating bugs from the rotting wood. There were two other women there, and we all watched the bear with awe and enthusiasm and gratitude. It was a peaceful and invigorating experience! // What is my relationship with this pose these days? I think it's a lot like that morning with the bear. This pose brings me joy and gusto and a hearty burst of energy ... but no doubt about it, I have a lot respect for this pose because it's still a bear, y'know? // I have a delicate low back that complains easily, and its mobility is more a liability than a service in this pose. For my back to feel safe and pain free requires a huge amount of attention and muscular management on my part. But when I take my time and proceed in an orderly manner, this pose offers so much... It's an intoxicating blend of freedom and containment, of surrender and drive. And the aftertaste reflects that nuanced blend: blissful fatigue and sparkling exhilaration. // I included a video of me going into the pose. I generally prefer to stay a while and refine the pose, but I made the video quickish for your sake. Ha ha. // The second video shows a variation with the chair - you have to have some strength and confidence in this pose for this variation, but if you can do it - it's absolutely wonderful. Having the feet elevated takes so much pressure off the low back and gives me access to my upper back in a way that truly feels amazing. I have an *unscientific* theory that there are little joy crystals in our armpits and when you stretch them open like this, magical joy crystal powers are released and you feel good.
