I was always heavily involved in sports, but most of my spare time growing up was devoted to competitive dance. So much so, I initially attended my first year at the University of Akron as a dance major. After a year of extensive study, I soon realized I was in love with the physicality of exercise and movement of the body which ultimately led me to studying exercise physiology as an undergrad and sports science in graduate school. ————— From 2006-2015, I spent my time managing a private personal training studio in Charlotte as well as teaching multiple group exercise classes at various facilities in Charlotte. I took a 4 year break to try out a 9-6 role, but I knew I belonged in the fitness world. ————— Since January 2019, I have been back to fitness full-time. I balance my time with teaching yoga, strength based group fitness, and personal training. I find the simple act of teaching/instructing/leading anything fitness related is super gratifying.” ————— Carrie will be teaching power yoga and yoga sculpt once we open! 😩5 years ago, this would have crushed me I stepped on the scale this morning, and was up 4.5 pounds from the last time I had checked. 4.5 pounds!? . I had a friend visiting for the weekend and we ate and drank our way through the city on Friday and Saturday. . And to top off the weekend, we went to a friend’s house for the first Friendsgiving of the year last night. I was up 4.5 pounds from Friday morning to Monday morning. . 5 years ago, that would have sent me down a spiral for the morning (maybe longer). . Past thoughts running through my head like .... . That was so bad, I shouldn’t have done that this weekend. I can’t go out to eat again, for at least a month. I have to be really, really good this week. #nocarbs . TODAY... I stepped on the scale and carried on with my day. Why didn’t it crush me today? . Because… . I have a plan. So I knew what to expect. I’ve learned to trust myself. So I knew how I wanted to handle each situation this weekend. And, I’ve stopped dieting. So I know that those fluctuations are normal and not actual body fat gained. All I can say now is... WHAT. A. RELIEF. . ...To not feel the guilt throughout the weekend, or the Monday morning regrets. . This isn’t something I picked up overnight or even in the last few months. . This is something I’ve been working on for YEARS. . And I want to help you learn how to get there quicker than I did (not saying overnight though 😜) . ‘I see your pain, and it’s big. I also see your courage, and it’s bigger. You can do hard things’ @glennondoyle said it best. Today was hard but no harder than the 364 days that came before. Missing someone does not get easier with time. For me, it gets harder. The further I am from my life and time with Chris the more acutely I feel the loss. Today I ran the @charlottemarathon relay. I can think of no better way to honor Chris’s life a year after his death than to run. I ran with him on my heart, in my head and hope that he was watching with a heart full of love and pride. I found myself scanning the crowd for him. His smile, his eyes, any part of him. He was everywhere but I could not see him. Thank you to my family and friends who showed up and cheered me on. Thank you to the strangers who shouted out Chris’ name and lifted my tired feet. Thank you to @karenrusak @csmith3513 Megan and Kim for running for Chris today. Thank you my my MiL and her sister for bringing my sweet boys out into the cold and wind.
