Good morning!!! ☀️☀️☀️ #AshtangaMondays - and welcome to a new week!!! It’s week 43 - and we take a closer look at #suptapadangusthasana . From downdog - on sapta - Inhale and jump through to seated and exhale as you lie flat on your back. Astau - inhale, place left hand on left thigh and lift righ leg and take hold of the big toe. Nava, exhale, engage bandhas and lift the upper body towards the leg, chin to shin. Stay five breaths. Dasa, inhale, lower head down. Dwadasa, exhale, bring right foot to the side, look to left. This position is also called supta parsvasahita. Stay five breaths. Dvadasa, inhale, bring the right foot back. Trayodasa, exhale, lift upper back, chin to shin. Caturdasa, inhale, lower down again. Pancadasa, place both arms to the side, lower leg. Sodasa - the same procedure on the left side, slide to see counts and breath in my video. . When I first started practicing, my leg was below a 45 degree angle from the floor! Now look at it! Day 16 of #ShoulderConnections and Day 2 of #tapthosewrists🙌🏻 with @marei_r . . . I’m finding myself really wanting to work on flexibility more lately and I love how much it’s opening up my practice. I’ve never tried humble warrior with my head to the ground and I liked it. Also feel like my #suptapadangusthasana is getting better and loved trying it with the strap as shown by Marei. One thing about practicing my flexibility more is that I feel like I need more practice time so I can get in both stretching and strength work. If anyone’s kind enough to share, how many hours a day do you practice? I typically only practice about one but think I need to add in more so I can stretch more. Also how do you usually divide up your practice between stretching and strength? Also how do you divide tine between classes/set routines and more unstructured play/drills? I’m trying to be a bit more methodical and structured with my practice. However so far this year hasn’t gotten off to the best start and I haven’t stuck to my plans a bit. There’s still plenty of year left though so I’m not sweating it. . . . Good morning with Day 2️⃣ of my 7 day workshop #tapthosewrists🙌🏻🦶🏻which is a variant of #suptapadangusthasana . Today I show you an opportunity to work on your hamstring flexibility combined with a feeling for your hips/pelvis. If you have, use one or tow straps. . Loop one strap about the length of your leg and put it around the hip crease of the leg that will go up and the ball of the foot of the other leg. When you lie down, you should feel an appropriate tension in the strap when you pull your knee towards your chest and you should be able to stretch your leg upwards. Maybe you will have to change the loop once more, but it’s worth it 😉! Now either take a second strap, use yogi toe lock or just grab the back of your thigh/calf. Keep the knee towards the chest (so you start with a bent knee!) and find your neutral pelvis from yesterday 😉. From here, gently try to straighten your upper leg. Once in your range of stretch, softly start to push into the loop with the ball of your foot like it was a gas pedal. Keep your upper leg neutral, the kneecap always looks to the shoulder of the same side, not to the other one, and your outer hip stays down😉. The strap will pull the top of your upper thigh away from your front hip so you create space for the fold. Press the sitbone towards the end of the mat as well. This won’t be a huge movement!! It’s just a very small one indeed 😉. But I love the feeling of gaining space it gives to me 😍! Don’t let your lower back round but always keep the neutral pelvis and therefore long spine in your mind. In the Second video, you can see the difference☺️. If you don’t have straps, just imagine pushing the head of your upper thighbone and your sit bone alway from you while practicing the rest as described above 🙏🏻. . . . #downdogyoga #myyogalife #yogaover40 #breatheandalliscoming #practiceandalliscoming

As we are 7 weeks away from the closing of this course, there is one pose for each week to be perfomed by all of the participants. Here we go with the fist ones Supta Padangusthasana A & B. This pose unlock the hips and help create traction in the lower back, which can relieve compression and tension. Doing the pose on the floor allows you to safely stretch your hamstrings without putting much stress on vertebrae. Supta padangusthasana stimulates the Muladhara (root) chakra. The muladhara helps one to stay connected. This pose also stimulates Svadishtana chakra, promoting emotional stability and joy. Love practising it and enjoying greater awareness of the union body, mind and heart.
