As we make our way through France on the road home for Christmas we quickly find out how accustomed to the warm weather we have become 😨. PASSIVE VS ACTIVE SPINAL MOBILIZATION ⠀ both equally important and valuable. These exercises are about passive mobilization using the legs. Focus on breath and movement synchronization is important here. Slow and steady. 5 seconds inhale and exhale.⠀Start as shown in the video, arms out at 45 degrees to make sure the shoulder blades are seated and the arms are gently engaged into the floor. Focus on VERTEBRAL ARTICULATION. If you use the legs like a suspension bridge here, you’ll get more mobilization. Notice knees moving AWAY from me to traction the spine passively 1. Exhale to gently tuck tailbone ⠀ 2. Inhale from that position to raise the hips ⠀ 3. Exhale to lower the hips ⠀ —-repeat 2-3 multiple times and hold a few breaths ⠀ 4. Inhale to raise hips⠀ 5. Exhale place hips on a block ⠀ 6. Inhale, then exhale lifting knees, one at a time if needed (navel to spine, corseting)⠀ 7. Inhale extend legs (slightly bent is ok to keep pelvis relaxed) ⠀ 8. Exhale to slowly lower legs towards head, rocking pelvis on the block ⠀ 9. Inhale legs back to neutral extended position. ⠀ —-repeat 8-9 multiple times and hold a few breaths ⠀ ⠀ 10. Seven weeks, seven families.⁠ .⁠ Another primary spinal range of motion that you want to make sure you use every day is lateral flexion, or side bends. I love this giant movement side bend in the handle series, but in this version it's not a pure side bend. As I'm approaching the high V point, I'm adding spiral. That's OK though. Dynamic Warmup 🔥 - - - Follow @trainwithshane312 for health and fitness tips. - - - First of all, I’m not against using a treadmill, elliptical, or bike to warm up before a workout. They work just fine, but I would rather move in all three planes of motion as opposed to one (the sagittal plane). Arm circles - This is a pretty self explanatory shoulder warmup. TRX assisted squats progressing to bodyweight - I’m in my 40’s so I like to ease into doing squats. Lunge with arm drivers - I love this one. It not only warms the legs up, but it stretches the hip flexors and enhances spinal mobility. Side shuffle with arm swings - A little bit of work in the frontal plane never hurts. Grapevine - This is a nice low-impact agility exercise. Start slow and increase speed as you become more comfortable with the movement. Butt kickers - Warms up the quadriceps. Runners stretch - A great mobility exercise for the hip flexors and spine. Groiner - The most dynamic of all these movements. I saved it until the end, because I needed to do everything else first in order to do this one…..great for hip mobility.
