Vasisthasana 4 ways. 💙 One of the very common asana in class that is a follow-up pose to many other poses. Side plank is a challenging arm balance and an excellent arm, wrist and shoulder strengthener. It also improves balance and concentration. Thus it promotes strength and balance. There are many more variations other than the ones above, which is what I like about side planks because we can always choose the option depending on how the body feels that day. If you feel strong, you can challenge yourself with Eka Pada Vasisthasana (hold big toe and straighten top leg). Or you can always take a supported side plank by stepping the top foot in front of you if you like a modification. It is common to have painful wrist in #vasisthasana as this pose involves the support of your bodyweight on the wrist. Try lowering down on your forearm with fingers turned perpendicular to the long edge of the mat, coming to a forearm side plank instead! #yogatutorial 📸@jasontehpeng

I LOVE working out abs! I used to HATE them though!!! I hated them because I couldn’t do them, they hurt my neck and shoulders and I could get high enough of the ground or hold a plank😢. I was SO weak from being in a brace and my form was so poor. BUT! I was determined!!!! The strongest people I knew always had a strong core so I knew if I wanted to be strong I also had to strengthen my abs! I realized I was not in a good form therefore I hated doing the exercises. So I started to learn about form. Well fast forward 10 years later and now I get to teach people how to love working their abs!! If you work with me you know!😂😂😂😇😇😇. Planks at #36weekspregnant? Not so much. But modified side planks . . . let’s do it. 🙌🏻 Of course it’s different for everyone and for me it’s varied pregnancy to pregnancy (and as my knowledge base has grown), but I’ve done planks very minimally during this pregnancy. You can see in my stories today I did one during a modified burpee series, so I held it for all of a second or two. That’s about all I got in me when it comes to a non-modified plank. But in general planks just haven’t felt good, I’ve seen coning, and having had recovered from #diastasisrecti after baby #2, it’s just not worth it to me. I’d rather spend my time side planking. How does your body handle planks these days? 💪🏻 Pregnant or not, try this variation I’m sharing in the video. I show a few options - hip down or up, leg lifted or not. It’s one of the many core exercises in my #HalloweenHIIT Challenge starting next week (I call it ”Candy Snatcher Side Planks.” 😉) If you’re not pregnant or #postpartum, you can even try it in a full side plank or work for more speed.
