It’s no secret that competing makes competitors see and adjust to themselves at different leveled physiques phases. Ie: bulk/off season/improvement season, prep and stage ready. I’ve gotten a handful of DMs and have talked to ppl about this a lot frequently for some reason and ppl keep asking what my preferred “year round” physique is. Here’s my answer. I’m not a fan of my craziest bulk, I’m not that into being stage lean year round either! I like a happy medium of fluff meets a couple lines lol. But imma take whichever phase I’m in and embrace it, always!

Been loosely tracking my macros during this “ mini cut” (I technically am only 3 lbs away from the weight I’ll be competing at but I’d like to be a little lighter just to lean out a little bit). Set my macros to be around 2000 calories - 250c, 57f, 120p. This picture was taken back in summer 2017 when I went from 152 to 132 lbs and did a really slow cut for about 6 months. The goal was to compete in Worlds at that weight class ( Lol I can’t believe at one point I wanted to compete at the 123 weight class) and I hit my goal but I felt like absolute shit. After I hit 138lbs, it became so hard to lose weight. My macros were ridiculously low. I was eating maybe 1000-1200 calories at 0-10 g fat and less than 100g carbs. Super unhealthy but at the time, I loved how lean I looked. Fast forward almost 2 years and I’m back at the same starting weight (151 lbs) and feel so much better and stronger. I think it’s important to challenge yourself but not to the point where you feel so shitty and deprived of what you enjoy. Balance is key - not only in what you eat but just in life in general. It feels good to be on a cut where I can eat healthy foods but also be able to occasionally eat (and drink) some foods that I enjoy once in a while. Going to enjoy myself this long weekend 🙂

Competing is NOT a healthy sport. It’s an extreme, especially as a female. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you are choosing to compete, you are choosing to sacrifice some aspects of your health to a certain extent at the dog end of a contest prep, and you must take responsibility for that 👙 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is why I try my best to portray an honest, accurate picture of what contest prep involves. I try to steer away from making it look glamorous and fun 24/7, and I’m always honest with my clients about how it’s an extreme and isn’t something you should do because it looks cool. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ That being said, there are steps we can take to minimise these detriments to health and ensure that they are TEMPORARY and not long lasting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was listening to @calum_themusclementors & @luke_themusclementors Q&A yesterday evening and Luke mentioned how he doesn’t take on competitive female clients because he can’t imagine taking them down to extremely low calorie intakes on high cardio (which unfortunately has to be done sometimes to get someone into stage condition)..but Cal made an important point that if coaches who genuinely have the clients best interest and take the necessary steps to minimise detriments to health don’t take on female clients then we would be left with coaches who quite frankly just don’t seem to give a shit about what happens long term to our health & quality of life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Make your prep smart. You don’t get an additional trophy for ‘grinding harder’ than the person next to you if you both got into the required condition for stage, and it’s not worth trying to be the hardest worker in the room if your health is in the gutters. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Be the smartest worker in the room. Allow yourself enough time, make sure you have a game plan post show, structure your nutrition in a way that helps keep health & digestion in tact and track as many health markers as possible.
