I worked out before my birthday celebration today 🤗 but don’t get it twisted! . I did NOT work out to earn my wine, cheese and cake 🍷🧀🎂 . I worked out to take care of my body, to have 30 minutes of focused me time, to be better than I was yesterday, to fulfill a commitment that I made to myself, and to FEEL GOOD 🙌🏼 . Working out should not be a form of self punishment. As someone who struggled with an eating disorder for several years, I’ve been there. I know what that feels like. And let me tell you, working out because you LOVE yourself is a completely different experience 💗 . As we prepare for all of the holiday parties and festivities, let’s try to remember that none of us needs to EARN our treats. BUT, I guarantee we will feel better during and after all of the celebrations (both physically and mentally) if we are intentional about moving our bodies and taking care of ourselves 💃

Happy Saturday! It’s day 7 of the #TCM12DaysOfChristmas and yes, I’m still in the bed. Earlier this year I talked A LOT about sleeping. I started taking a supplement which was great but my underlying problem was my bed. . As a plus size woman sharing a bed with a plus sized man, we needed more support in our bed. So we got a @bigfigmattress and the rest is history. By the rest I mean sleepless nights. My husband will tease me that while I’m married to him, I’m in love with my bed and he’s not completely wrong—I love my bed more with him in it though! . But listen: sleep is SO important. I don’t subscribe to the notion of “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.” Sleep is glorious when you’re alive and it helps you keep living. I don’t know about you but I’m a miserable human when I don’t get proper rest. . How is your sleep? When was the last time you got some quality rest? This season, gift yourself some self care with quality sleep.

Start with a light workout program- some stretching for five minutes is a great way to ease into morning workouts. So set your alarm for 15 minutes early, get up in your pajamas and stretch for 5 minutes. Get the blood flowing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2️⃣. Make yourself a bomb 💣 playlist that makes you feel like a bad beyotch. Whatever music makes you want to strut around in your undies because you are the most confident you. Play it. Over headphones, through your speakers or as loud as you want. But listen to music that makes you want to get up and show everyone how awesome you are. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3️⃣. Find an accountability partner. Agree to wake up 15 minutes early and get that time earlier in 15 minutes intervals until you have enough time to workout, and work your biz. Tell your accountability what time you need to be up by and message them a time stamped picture. “Self-care is not salt baths and chocolate cake, it is making the choice to build a life you don’t need to regularly escape from. And that often takes doing the thing you least want to do. It is letting go. It is choosing new. It is disappointing some people. It is making sacrifices for others. It is sometimes having a dirty kitchen and deciding your ultimate goal in life isn’t going to be having abs and keeping up with your fake friends. It is deciding how much of your anxiety comes from not actualizing your latent potential, and how much comes from the way you were being trained to think before you even knew what was happening. If you find yourself having to regularly indulge in consumer self-care, it’s because you are disconnected from actual self-care, which has very little to do with “treating yourself” and a whole lot do with parenting yourself and making choices for your long-term wellness.It is no longer using your hectic and unreasonable life as justification for self-sabotage in the form of liquor and procrastination. It is learning how to stop trying to “fix yourself” and start trying to take care of yourself… and maybe finding that taking care lovingly attends to a lot of the problems you were trying to fix in the first place.It means being the hero of your life, not the victim. It means rewiring what you have until your everyday life isn’t something you need therapy to recover from. It is no longer choosing a life that looks good over a life that feels good. It is giving the hell up on some goals so you can care about others. It is being honest even if that means you aren’t universally liked. It is meeting your own needs so you aren’t anxious and dependent on other people.It is becoming the person you know you want and are meant to be.
