Um dos assuntos que mais converso com outras pessoas que têm escoliose é em relação à autoestima, ter vergonha de mostrar o corpo, de mostrar o colete, de usar uma roupa mais justa. Acho que de todos os pontos que estão ligados ao tratamento da escoliose esse é um dos mais importantes. É muito, mas muito fácil, alguém de fora te falar para aceitar, que não precisa ter vergonha, mas só quem está ali, usando um colete ou com cirurgia e tendo que conviver com essas curvinhas, é que sabe tudo que passa pela cabeça, todas as inseguranças e medos! Muitas meninas e meninos com escoliose já sofreram e sofrem preconceito, seja devido ao colete, ao formato do corpo, à cicatriz de cirurgia, etc. O meu objetivo toda vez que faço essa caminhada na praia, onde meu colete fica mais exposto do que nunca, é mostrar que não importa o que os outros pensarão de ti, a única coisa que importa é você ser feliz, aceitar, agradecer e deixar fluir. Esse passeio foi extremamente especial pois aconteceu algo lindo. Enquanto minha mãe tirava algumas fotos, um menino de mais ou menos 6 anos, se aproximou, olhou para mim sorrindo, pegou a minha mão e deu um beijo. Eu, totalmente surpresa e encantada com aquilo, também dei um beijo na mão dele e disse que ele era fofo e especial demais. Obviamente ele viu que eu estava diferente das outras pessoas, e qual foi a reação dele? Um gesto de carinho e amor, gesto de criança que só tem bondade no coração. São nessas pessoas que nós devemos pensar, por elas que devemos fazer acontecer, por essas pessoas de bem. E se por um acaso fizerem comentários infelizes, a melhor opção vai ser sempre o perdão e ter a certeza e a segurança de que você nunca estará sozinho, que existem muitos passando pelo mesmo e que maldade nenhuma atinge quem vibra na frequência do amor ♥︎ Estarei buscando cada vez mais mostrar o lado positivo de ter escoliose, buscando cada vez mais mostrar que a beleza mora dentro de nós, no nosso coração e isso ninguém no mundo pode tirar ♡ O texto completo e mais fotos já estão no blog! #linknabio #escoliose #scoliosis

Let's talk scoliosis. Above on the left is a photo of me from 2016 when my scoliosis was at it's peak. 39 degree curve in my spine going into my shoulder and also a slight curve in the lower back. I was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 14 and was continuously being watched over incase the curve reached 60 degrees which would mean I would have to undertake surgery. When I was 17 my potential surgeon told me that if I started strengthening the back muscles, my curves would decrease. Looking at these photos never did I ever imagine my curves would decrease this much!! I could never perform 1 single push up because the pain was too much, no I can perform multiple! I still have the odd here and there sleepless nights due to the pain but the number of those nights is no where near as many as a few years ago. About a year ago, I completed an 8 week fitness program with an exercise physiologist who specialised in scoliosis. One of the exercises she gave me is the ‘kneeling lean back’. I love how I can feel it strengthening my lower back and core. The important thing is for the movement to be slow and well controlled. I do 3 sets of 12 reps holding 10kg, but recommend starting with bodyweight until you have mastered it, and no need to go too heavy with this one.

Emotional control. • My last post touched on my last of emotional control and frustration during a workout. I think every now and then a lack of emotional stability will occur, however you can’t let this just happen. • I personally think to become the best version of yourself you can’t let your reputation become stifled by your lack of frankly self control and discipline around your emotions. This applys to every aspect of lift but obviously today I’m going to apply it to the lovely gymnasium. • Should you amp yourself up for the 3rd set of hamstring curls.... probably not, why? Excess Momentum imo is pretty much useless (unless controlled) imo for hypertrophy, so therefore why use aggression in the gym for a set of isolations. • Now this all depends on your training style, for instance to hit 160kg x 15 x 3 on leg press I had to amp myself the fuck up, I screamed and got my shit right before the set. • However, I paid the price by sacrificing form and control. Personally especially in my case this trade off just isn’t worth it for most exercises, if you train the controlled manner I think an intelligent lifter trains in then imo controlled aggression should RARELY be used. • Ps, lovely session with my bffs the other day hehe @sarahlesiak @jaredshadbolt @cahamiltoe

Schmerzen hielten sich in Grenzen und ich habe fast ein Spiel mit meiner Tochter im sitzen durchgehalten ... heute fing der Tag schon anstrengend an. irg fühlt sich heute alles mehr nach ganzkörper blaufleck an 😅 ... liegen ist blöd, sitzen, stehen usw. ... aber es könnte echt schlimmer sein😅. am Montag bin ich beim Orthopäden. mal sehen was der zu meinem Resultat sagt ... fight fight fight 👊 #scoliosisfighter

For the last few days I have been dealing with what I hope is a back muscle strain injury and not a surgical rod problem related to scoliosis but it started to make me think that maybe lifting heavy weights isn’t something that I should be doing a lot of. It was my inspiration to pass this message to you: Weight-bearing exercises, being physically active and building muscle strength is important but it doesn’t only mean you have to go to the gym.  The gym isn’t for everyone.  As long as you are doing at least 20-30 minutes of physical activity every day that raises your heart rate and some weight-bearing exercise, you are good - just do something to build muscle strength and not just cardio.  Yoga and barre can be good for toning those muscles too. . 💃DANCE is a great way to raise your heart rate, a good cardio workout, and holding poses and/or stretching before the dance workout helps to put tension on your muscles and stretch them out.  It can be a great social activity, emotional release, and liberating as you lose yourself to the music.
