Pro triathlete @danielableymehl is practicing the dancers pose with support of the @blackroll yoga belt. Usually triathletes tend to have extremely strong quads with tight hip flexors, strong and tight calves, and an unstable lumbar spine with weak abdominals. The dancer pose is not - what I call - a restorative asana but it contains a lot of benefits for triathletes. It stretches out the hamstrings (as cycling shortens them) on your standing leg, while it stretches the quads and hip flexors on the other and at the same time open up chest and shoulders. The pose requires foundation, stability, flexibility, balance and concentration. With the help of the yoga belt its easier to get a greater access in this pose. In this way hips can be squared instead of splayed. . Daniela rotates her shoulders externally and pick up her left foot by holding the belt with her hands in the inside loop of the belt. She keeps her torso upright and squares her hips to the front. The standing leg is engaged while she kicks her back foot up toward the ceiling. . This year I have been introducing some more advanced stretches to keep everyone agile. This one for the quads and adductors has been particularly popular. Great for your balance too (if you have trouble balancing hold onto something until you get the hang of it). If you need help with this ask me when you come to training.
