***SWIPE***➡️➡️➡️!!! Finally took some time to do something I am HORRIBLE for keeping up with: STRETCHING!!!! Me hobbling around like an old man after leg day is getting a little tiresome, so I've started incorporating some of the following stretches for glutes, hamstrings and hip flexors! One of my biggest hurtles with these stretches (especially planks and downward facing dog) is keeping my back from arching. My scoliosis makes some poses difficult, but I've been told core-building movements including plank variations actually serve to strengthen the core and improve form. Sé que puede resultar muy difícil para la mayoría de nosotros... pero en lugar de tratar de pensar menos, lo que podríamos hacer es tratar de cambiar nuestro enfoque hacia el momento presente. La mente es como un receptor y se sintoniza en diferentes frecuencias al igual que la radio, y capta todo lo que nos rodea. No hay nada "malo" en que nuestra mente haga eso, el problema es que esta charla continúa todo el tiempo, así que es muy difícil para nosotros concentrarnos en algo más que nuestros pensamientos. ¿Verdad? Es tan difícil enfocarnos en otra cosa cuando esta voz interior se hace omnipresente. Se hace tan difícil que se vuelve realmente desafiante llevar nuestra atención en nuestra respiración incluso por 10 segundos. Nuestra mente siempre está activa, día y noche hasta cuando dormimos, sin parar, todo el tiempo! Llevar la atención hacia adentro, ser consciente, estar presente. One of the things I've enjoyed most about NOT teaching yoga has been the opportunity to reconnect with my own practice without the influence of anything except my own thoughts and feelings. For me the physical practice of yoga (which I share a lot on here) is really just a way of becoming in tune with our most natural, physical, primal selves, simply the joy of having a body and being alive. There is no right or wrong way and each person's way is as valid as the next. Regardless of who you meet on your journey, you are your own teacher and your own student. The same goes for the spiritual practice of yoga (which I choose not to share so much but is still very important to me). I've noticed that a lot of yogis/yoga instructors are using social media as a way of throwing out unsolicited yoga and spiritual advice, which is often based upon something that some guru or another has said to them along their personal journey...but there is never only one way of doing something, and anyone who says there is should be viewed with sceptical eyes. Things are rarely clean cut and often subjective. Be free and open but think critically, try things out for yourself, see what feels right for you, see if that thing you've been taught to believe resonates with your own inner guru. And if you feel the need to tell someone they are doing something wrong or should be doing it differently, then remember that yoga is essentially learning to not be a total douche 😂, it doesn't matter what you know, you are neither above nor below anyone, unless someone is asking you specifically or coming to your class, your opinions will more that likely be unwelcome. Be undogmatic, be kind, be free, be accepting. Get loosey goosey! 🤗 (I’m in a really tacky mood today, so bear with me). This is about as close to yoga as I get (for now 😉🤣). This quad and hip flexor stretch has been my go-to for the last couple of years now! I don’t do a lower body day or run without it, but because I spend a good bit of my day sitting, I do it almost every day. (Usually I’ll sit back and stretch the hamstrings/calves as well on lower body days then move to glutes). - These days we do a lot more sitting in general, which makes for tight and shortened quads/hip flexors, which often leads to knee and hip pain. If you sit a lot and rarely stretch, and have no injury or real reason for the pain, then before you start popping Ibuprofen for that knee pain, put your I-don’t-have-time-to-stretch excuses back in the box and give your quads a good stretch a few times a week and see if the pain improves. Likely, it will. Stretching and strengthening your lower body is the best preventative medicine for joint pain. My biggest issue with hip and knee pain came postpartum. This stretch and variations of it have made a world of difference. I find it superior to the good ole stand-and-grab-your-foot-behind-your-butt quad stretch, which does little to nothing for tight hip flexors. Again, think bang for your buck. 👏🏼🙌🏼 - NOW... don’t think for a second my balance was anywhere near smooth or I could even grab my foot or lift it very high at all behind me the first time I tried it. Rest assured, it was a total train wreck. I did not video it for evidence or comparison so just take my word for it and move on. 🤚🏼🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 SO, try with just the front leg up and the back leg out behind you, perhaps on a low elevated surface, to start, and rock forward to stretch. Also, don’t hyperextend your lower back during the stretch. Keep it neutral and focus on holding the quad/hip flexor stretch at least 30 seconds for a good static stretch. When you get a little looser and that becomes easier, put the back foot up on a bench (or the sofa while you’re watching TV- you can do this anywhere people!). If you need a little extra balance support, use a dowel (or broomstick at home!) to help keep you steady.

Water is related to the #secondchakra #swadhisthana, our hips area, to the very watery pelvic organs and obviously to all liquids within the body. I find this element very magical. Life starts in the water, water is plasticity, fluidity, depht, movement, pleasure. It is exactly what allows the body to perceive the senses. Once water reduces/shinks as in the old age, our vision, tastes, touch, hearing and smells as well as our brain begin to fail. Water also leads to the perception of the amount of sensations and emotions stuck within the hips. I often say to my #yogastudents during #hipopener #yogapose s: get in touch right in the here and in the now with all these experiences of the past. Such a massive dataware house of emotions. I didn't know I could finally find my balance in this particular Asana until my practice warm up today. I was so happy. With the full moon energies coming in my energy and emotions are absolutely all over the place. My energy is becoming very sensitive, and being able to feel others more intensely is putting me on the spot (kinda). So I'm all wobbly on the inside. But I was able to balance in this posture and that makes me happy. So so happy, honestly :) Ignore my expression, I do not ever know what I'm doing with my face, except when I sweat. I love it when I sweat are yoga or a run or a workout. You see how the topic keeps moving from one to another? And I haven't event realised it!😂 Gosh. I'm at a very happy space right now. Thinking about 'what's going to happen' had slightly put me off. And then I got a slap from life that bought me right back to reality and my balance. Going to practice a LOT of grounding and healing practices today. BRACE THE FULL MOON GUYS. ✨S T R E T C H I N G. This variation of supported bridge is becoming one of my favorite anterior chain stretch. It focuses on the front of the leg from toe to quadriceps. I place 2 blocks under the pelvis (not the lower back) for a better support, height might change. With some belly engagement I can slightly tilt my pelvis away from the lower back to move the stretch towards the iliopsoas.
