My professional and personal journey have taken me through a lot. Professionally, I’m proud of the training and experience I’ve accrued and proud of the strengths allopathic medicine displays. It’s why I specifically love being a Hospitalist and overall I feel incredibly blessed. As far as the shortcomings, this quote by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn sums it up: As a physician, I am embarrassed by my professions lack of interest in healthier lifestyles. We need to change the way we approach chronic disease. . There are shortcomings that are deeply rooted in medical culture and it’s going to require a lot of reform, reframing, and effort to overcome. . These shortcomings, along with my own personal health journey made it vitally important for me to get to root cause of things, start with simple changes, and view healthcare in a more integrative holistic way. Nutrition, movement, mental health, and natural living are what I am most passionate about today and I want to grow in this area for myself, as well as be a help and service to others. . I want my account... this space... to be educational, encouraging, supportive, and a place where I can be vulnerable to if anything, show that physicians are broken, imperfect people as well.

@gwtpbath just reminded me the 2 years ago this weekend we were learning to become @animalflowofficial instructors! It has been a long journey, but one I will never regret to have taken. Not only did I improve myself physically, breaking free from 15 years of competitive bodybuilding that left me with limited mobility, but mentally I learnt that true progress takes sometime one step forward and two back. Persistence and consistency are 2 elements AF teaches you. Thanks to @rich_scrivener for leading the workshop and for being so strict in the assessment process. Onderweg even een lunchstop bij dit mooie meer, Lake Bohinj! Die 10 km omrijden was het het waard! Vandaag staat een lang en zwaar dagje op de planning. Ca. 90 km fietsen en meer dan 1000 hoogtemeters en dat in 32 graden 😱☀️! Goed blijven eten is dus erg belangrijk, ook al is dat makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan als je in deze temperaturen fietst. I have neglected the asana part of my practice for a week or two now. And my body and soul has crucified me. All sorts of aches, pains, stiffness and a total lack of drive. While there are a whole host of ways to practice yoga (there are 8 elements actually), when I neglect my physical practice, the rest of the elements get a little derailed too. It’s basically my key to my sanity, my calm, my motivation, my kindness, my non-attachment and pretty much everything else 😂 Note to self; don’t forget the thing that keeps you on track. Who does this? 🙋🙋🙋 ▫ So this weekend I finally took my own advice and just took a break. I had two very busy and anxiety filed weeks (filed with multiple panic attacks in only 3 days) and it was all just getting a bit much! After taking to one of my friends I decided to not be a hypocrite and just stop. ▫ I went to my absolutely favorite beach and just watched the sunrise, went swiming, walking and honestly just breathing. Not worrying or thinking too much, but being present and taking time to make sure I was ok. En bang zijn dat bepaalde zaken uit het verleden weer gaan gebeuren. Terwijl als je ECHT loslaat je daar niet langer bang voor hoeft te zijn. Met je angst blijf je dingen vasthouden. . . . Dus practice what you preach: ik ben weer flink aan het opruimen, loslaten. In mijn hoofd, energetisch gezien en letterlijk in mijn huis. Een opgeruimd huis, is een opgeruimde geest. . . . Ik ben mijn tarotkamer aan het opruimen, of te wel de ‘zet daar maar neer’-kamer. Ik ga het mezelf nu echt gunnen om daar een fijne mooie ruimte van te maken. Die kamer staat namelijk vol met van die rommeltjes die ik van rommelmarkt naar rommelmarkt sleep en maar weer bewaar voor de volgende rommelmarkt. Ik heb ze nu naar de tweedehandswinkel gebracht en ik heb een rondje door de buurt gelopen met kleding, boeken en speelgoed: ‘Zeg jij hebt toch een dochter van vijf, tien, twaalf, is dit niet wat voor haar?’ Het is toch fijn als je een ander blij kunt maken en als dingen een tweede leven is gegund. En dan ben ik er maar weer vanaf. 😂 . . . P.S.: Wat wil jij loslaten op energetisch niveau en in je koppie? Boek een consult bij me. You are more than just your body. What matters is what’s inside of you…your soul, your spirit. You and I…. we come from the same place. You may look different than I, but we come from the EXACT SAME source. Doesn’t matter if you call it God, The Universe, The Mother Lode, Elvis, The Big Kahuna, The Divine, Infinite Intelligence, Grandma…doesn’t matter. We are ONE. And your body is not WHO you are. It is merely a vessel that was given to you in order for you to be able to experience this life. Who you are is so much deeper than that physical body of yours. You are loving, kind, creative, and generous. You are your honor, your integrity, your word, your promises, and your willingness to forgive. You would help anyone in need; you would give your life for your kids. You are love. You are AMAZING! Your body does not define your level of awesomeness…your spirit does. You are more than just your body. Remember that the next time you look in the mirror and don’t like what you see. (I need this reminder often.) Remember that the next time you feel like your life is incomplete because you’re not a certain size. (I suffer when I compare my body to others.) Remember that the next time you think you need to lose weight in order to be “good enough”. (I make the mistake of thinking I would be "better" if I just lost some weight.) Self care isn’t always just about pampering but I do find that type of self care to be a quick fix during busy times, and it’s always worth doing something than nothing at all. ▫️ My self care this week has been fairly amazeballs. ▫️ Last weekend I was child free for a while and took the opportunity to have a glass of wine 🍷with my lunch. Now I hardly ever drink so I was fairly merry 🥴 afterwards which meant I needed to take a nap in a yurt ⛺️ for 3 hours to get over it! Now it was my birthday so I deserved the wine and I’m a mum so I also deserved the nap! ▫️ This week I also took a step back from a few things to help alleviate the stress and pressure on me to keep up to date with stuff. ▫️ I removed myself from quite a few facebooks groups that really brought nothing to my life but still distracted me a sucked the life out of me. ▫️ I even cancelled a business membership I had (as much as I bloody loved it) because right now I’ve got so much going on business wise and that felt like it was too much and I needed to focus on one thing. ▫️ Just doing those simple things have really helped me focus and chill! I was plate juggling 🤹‍♀️ thinking I could do it all but the truth is I can’t. ▫️ What have you got going on in your life that you don’t really need to be dealing with? ▫️ Is there anything you can shed to help focus you?
