@deandreyoga on Rag Doll 🧸 ・・・ Hey beautiful people! So rag doll is absolutely one of my favorite poses in yoga, ESPECIALLY after waking up! Here’s a short sequence using rag doll as the base with different variations. I’ll explain from left to right the poses. - Rag Doll with folded arms: Bend knees softly until your belly is touching your thighs and let head and arms hang. Rag doll with hands behind the base of the skull softly tractioning the neck downwards. Rag doll with hands behind the head with side ways variation to get into different parts of the upper back and side body. Interlaced hands in rag doll - Bind hands at base of spine and slowly pull away from the back. I find that squeezing my shoulder blades together adjusts the thoracic spine but you don’t have to! Rag doll twists: Bend one leg while the other one is straight and open the chest and arm in the opposite direction of the bent leg. Use a block if you can’t get your hand to the floor or if its a struggle. End: Roll the spine up with an engaged midsection…last thing to roll up should be the head and feel free to move with fluidity after this! Strap Stretch: Move your arms back and forward in full range of motion 20 times or more. 2.Side stretch with Strap: Pull with bottom hand. 3. Eagle Arms: Cross elbows and wrists. Round the spine slightly. 4. Cow Face Arms: Top palm faces in, bottom palm faces out. Hook fingers and pull against each other. 5. Chest Stretch: Arm can be straight or 90 degrees 6. Posterior Deltoid Stretch: Arm reaches across the chest. Push with the bent knee. 7. Puppy Stretch with blocks: Keep elbows shoulder width apart. Sink chest . 8. Thread and needle for arms: Try to stack the shoulders and turn the chest up toward the ceiling. 9. Forward Fold with Arms Overhead with strap: Keep arms shoulder width apart, knees can be slightly bend if hamstrings are tight. . . Hold 1-2 mins for each poses. This is a good order to follow. A new friend just asked me what motivated me to start Yoga. This was my response: “Well, if you believe in this kind of thing, it was really fate. But it started by my friends (@bgisawesome 😘) bugging me to go with them. I enjoyed it for just a workout back then, I loved how much it made me sweat. Then when I was going through a hard time in life it became something that I noticed made me feel better. So I took a teacher training because I wanted to understand what I was feeling, and my experience of life changed in tremendous ways [for the better] the more I practiced. It’s become my place to connect with myself.” I honestly can’t explain how much this practice changed me. Or really, gave me the opportunity to change myself. How does that work? Well it moves energy & tension in you, through you, and out of you which allows your nervous system to relax and function appropriately. It’s kinda like giving yourself an oil change, or defragging your hard drive, or whatever analogy you’d like to use. It also heightens your sense of self awareness exponentially. Change begins with awareness. Prior to yoga I was walking through life blind. Blind to the effect of my actions on my own life and the world around me. Most importantly, the physical practice led me to the wisdom of Yoga which is found in the philosophy. Awareness is only one part of change, understanding has to be there too. It hard to work on things you don’t understand so just getting on your mat and hoping for the best is not a complete practice. The heart of Yoga I found in books. They helped me understand life and with that understanding I can try to release the struggle of expecting and wanting things to be different. Now I get why & how things are the way they are. That doesn’t make it always easy to accept everything as is, but it gives me tools to practice with, and come back to, and know that this is also just one big part of the process. I still have many blind spots. I still have stored trauma that gets triggered. And as long as I have those things I’ll continue to come back to this practice over and over to help me clear though them. ♥️

I used to feel a pain in my lower back in any backbend, because I was overly using the most naturally flexible part of the human spine to do my backbends. With careful research and amazing teachers, I was able to understand that. To backbend, there should be no pain or scrunching feeling in your lower back. It is about making space in areas that are often restricted - because we are constantly sitting hunched forwards on our phones, laptops, driving, etc. If I could name one pose that has TRANSFORMED my practice in every way - it is this pose. With practice, it has enabled me to truly find some space in my upper spine and shoulders, that were locked tight for so many years. It still is a work in progress and always will be. Opening up the chest and throat is such an incredible sensation that I am incredibly grateful for having found yoga for. This video is pretty straightforward so I have no extra tips here - except that it should NEVER be painful - in the shoulders or anywhere else. . HEAVY TRIPLES . I’m hoping to work up to testing my 1RMs across a couple different lifts in a few weeks time. My last tested back squat 1RM was 64 kg. A few weeks back I got 65kg for three - so it was both - new 3RM AND 1 RM at the same time. Yesterday I did 5 x 3 @ 63. . They felt ok (videos show set 1, 4 & 5) and I went for two sets without and 3 wearing the belt. . I’m not gonna lie and I don’t believe in jinxing things- I’d love to get a 70kg 1RM next time I test but if I don’t ... meh 🤷🏻‍♀️🙃 Life (and lifting) goes on 💪!
