Build strength, work the core, and tone the legs/glutes (aka booty). For me, using my body weight and gravity is the best way to gain strength! . . And if you know anything about my practice you’ll know it’s about building strength to stabilise the joints, and not about flexibility . . So this is one of my favourite things to add into my practice: one leg up! . . The challenge is not to lose form. Especially in something like a high plank — keep the core engagement and a solid straight line. It’s not about adding a backbend! However strengthening those booty muscles will help your backbends!! 🍑💪 . . If you love adding vinyasas to your practice and regularly flow through plank->chatutanga->upward dog, then try this variation and lemme know how you find it! Keep the leg up as you raise the hips to downward facing dog 💪💪

Even if some of these planks are not what you should seek in your practice, try them all - especially 1 and 2 where you learn how to protract and retract shoulder blades => the final plank should be somewhere in between and neutral: rounded upper back but open collar bones😉 . My favorite is of course the sassy one😂 But man, holding the superman plank for ten second was also interesting😜 . Last Day! (Sunday) #AllThingsTuck . #lolasana aka #pendantpose . You guys, we made it!!!! 7 days of compression and inverting and drilling, and it's been awesome seeing your dedication and breakthroughs! 🎉👊🏻 . Keeping it super real today, and I am BEGINNER level for our last set of drills! I can't actually do lolasana without props 😅 I find L sit to be 1000 times easier! I think some of us are just built for one or the other. But I definitely need to incorporate some of these #drills into my regular practice, because I could feel that they were helping dial it in! . One slide only, but several clips and drill options. First couple need socks and hardwood floor or sliders/paper plates, blankets under feet. . 1: #plankpose slide up to lolasana prep. Keep #core strongly engaged and round upper back/cat back at top of slide. Try to keep gaze forward. Keep arms locked out/straight. . 2: #tabletop slide up to lolasana prep. Same cues as first drill, just starting from your knees. . 3. Using a strap: I used my @infinitystrap which makes a handy dandy shelf for knees to rest on. It's almost too easy, but helps build muscle memory and gives you a taste of the pose! . 4: #Lolasanaprep from the ground. Start kneeling, press floor away, straight arms, navel to spine, cat back, compress as much as possible and lift to tops of feet. Next, lift one foot off ground at a time. . 5: Using blocks: prep and lift into lolasana with hands on #yogablocks for extra height. . 6: Beginner Bonus 😉🤓 Use Blocks, and try taking lolasana out to #LSit. . That's all she wrote! Lola is SO tough for me, and I never work on it 🙈 So believe me, I plan to take some of my amazing co-hosts drills and cues and learn this pose once and for all! . PLANK POSE🏋️‍♀️ Breaking down the almighty plank because for some of us it’s not easy... . - Starting off with our core, if we are not strong enough to do a press up, place the knees on the floor - this is a great starting point for beginners (see next photo) . - Making sure our hands are shoulder width apart and our inner elbows are internally rotating towards the front of the room . - Engaging the shoulder girdle by pressing the hands firmly into the floor as if we’re trying to push the floor away from ourselves . - Engaging the abdominals by pulling the stomach in . - Tucking the tailbone in . - Clenching those butt cheeks . - Raising the knee caps and quads up the thighs . - Pressing the heel of the foot to the back of the room and really elongating through the body . ...and don’t forget to BREATHE

Helping my student to build up some abdominal strength and spinal stability in a 1:1 session this morning with this modified Plank Pose. This is a great accessible version for beginners (or for anyone who is looking for a slightly gentler variation) because the angle of your body relative to the ground is higher when you use a chair, so it requires less initial strength than a standard plank from the floor. This version also does not require you to bend your wrists so deeply, so could be approachable for those with some wrist issues. We also did this pose in our chair yoga class last week and everyone loved it so much they requested it again this morning! 😀 Start out gradually with shorter holds and slowly add more time to your pose so your body can acclimatise to the challenges of the pose and you can build endurance and stability gradually. . ** N.B. Sunday night! Where did the weekend go? Work yoga yoga IG IG. Oh yeah I made some chili, the most extensive cooking I’ve done in months. Jeez, that’s why I didn’t get this done and posted until now, and that’s why I seldom cook😂. I was going to skip today, as I spent a lot of time on other challenges. Then I saw a posting by the beautiful, brainy @dryogimom. I thought I would do a Savasana, because I was tired and sleepy. I got a little second wind and did this #plankpose instead.
