Inhale and extend your spine, lifting your head and tailbone and stretching along the front of the body. There’s a lot going on in this sequence, but I think it would be nice to hone in specifically on the *hips* today. (Probably because I have hips on my mind right now because a new hips-focused class is the next practice I’m planning for my online class library!) . For starters here, we load our posterior hips as we sit back into utkatasana (chair pose). And then when we rise up, lift one knee & twist toward it, we’re working active hip flexion while placing more demand on our standing hip at the same time. . Then we bring our hands to the floor and walk forward into plank pose. In plank, we’re loading our anterior hips (hip flexors) in a pretty neutral position. . But then comes the verrrry exciting part! 🤗 Using my hip abductor muscles, I step my left foot onto a small towel beside my mat. . Using the sliding tool of the towel, I arc my leg out wide and forward through a combination of hip abduction, external rotation, and flexion. I’m basically moving that hip *actively through a full range of motion* here, which is a great way to train control of that hip joint! . Then I reverse through that same arc back to plank pose, and repeat on the other side. It’s normal for each side to feel different - notice if this is the case for you! . Then I add in a chaturanga push-up for good measure heh heh (which is still loading my hip flexors similarly to plank pose!), and then I transition back into utkatasana, and finally to tadasana (mountain pose). . As you can see, this sequence successfully targets the hips from multiple angles! The one thing that would round it all out is if we had some hip extension work in here - perhaps some single leg lifts in plank pose - oooh maybe I’ll do that next time! . 🏋️‍♀️💥💪Strong feels good!! 💪💥🏋️‍♀️. . . Even at my thinnest & skinniest, I never quite felt my best. I was always sore & had chronic pain. Then I started weight & mobility training with my coach. It changed everything for me! 🙂. . . I will admit I began to gain weight, which was super hard. I struggled with this for months but I couldn't deny how great I was feeling. After a long talk with my trainer, I ditched my daily weigh ins. I've never been happier!! Instead I've decided to focus on my lifting gains & how my clothes fit instead! My blood lab tests also have never been better & my yoga arm balances have also gotten easier. 🙂. . . So, when I see pics of myself skinnier, I remember that having more muscle just feels better!!
