On days where my wrist are recovering from intense handstand practice I often train my pincha. Learning pincha is a great way to start inverting and their benefits help you gain the muscle memory to practice the same moves in handstand. • Attempt what you can and move to the next exercise if you struggle then come back to it later! Remember it takes time and consistent practise, sometimes weeks in-between each drill but stay at it! It may not be perfect, but it’s something! I can hold a forearm stand for a matter of seconds away from the wall (my record is 6 full seconds 😂) and I couldn’t be more proud of myself. When I first started my practice I couldn’t do a headstand or a tripod headstand... now I can do both and I’m working my way up! Once I feel comfortable with my forearm balance, I’ll keep working on that dreaded handstand 🙏🏼👏✨ // #forearmstand #yoga #yogaeveryday #pinchamayurasana

Undoing the self conscious damage done over the years. I progressed from there to wearing properly fitted clothing out and about. No longer hiding in baggy pants and shirts. Feeling good in my skin and what I wore. Feeling confident to wear shorts in public and not try to hid myself in the shadows. Leaving myself love notes through the house. 🐺☽ I had confidence but nothing like today until I read the Women Who Run With The Wolves book ( I’ve read it several times now) and discovered the wild woman within and how to break out of my unhealthy habits. Theme of the week 18th-24th March: This week’s theme is confidence. For some of us this may be constant, for others fleeting or non existent. The yoga practise can be a tool for many things and this week my aim is to help us build confidence in the movements and capabilities of our bodies. Often we don’t even try something telling ourselves that there’s no way we could do it. It’s something I see on an almost daily basis particularly teaching Acro and inversions but with intelligent calibrations and sequencing you can start to learn to trust your body and move into shapes and poses that you didn’t think were possible. Of course this is a journey and it’s not to say that by deciding to be confident you will unlock all the tricky asana you’ve struggled with but breaking them down into sections whereby we strengthen and mobilise the relevant areas and begin to move towards the peak pose gradually the process begins. Physically we will no working towards Pincha Mayurasana, forearm stand. It’s a tricky arm balance that took me a long time to learn, 2 years for anyone who’s interested! We will look at the structure of the pose and will work on strengthening and stabilising the shoulder girdle and core as well as creating space in the hips and hamstrings. For those who are happy with Pincha in their practise we will look at some fun variations of the arms and explore movement of the legs to challenge the balance and proprioception. Part of building confidence in your practise is knowing where to stop and not pushing your body to do something it’s not quite ready for.
