Here is one of my personal favorites for internal and external obliques. One yellow only!! Modification can be made on a heavier spring with a strap on the thigh. I love the chair. I have got some more work to do on the lift up at the end. With my spine injury, I am still overusing my low back a bit too much however, I am up for the challenge. I spent the week diving deep into the stretch-eze band repertoire. There’s seriously so much you can do with this band and I’m looking forward to the yoga focused workshop I’m hosting at the end of this month at Pilates Palm Springs. I have taken leg raises out of my practice because of my spine injury. I am so happy to have the @fuseladder in my life. One of the things that I hear a lot from people who are interested in starting a Pilates or Yoga practice is that they first need to loose weight or become more flexible/strong. I totally get it, but the truth is that showing up and listening to your body in the present moment is the hardest part. After that it’s just practice. One of the take aways from this type of work is that when we are brave enough to show up and listen to ourselves and our needs it teaches us how to show up and listen to others. It goes way beyond our physicality and into the nuances of how we connect to each other. This standing arm series on two red and one blue springs, demonstrates the importance of alignment, coordination and control. I always use standing exercises on the reformer as an example of the importance of alignment. In the gym, you can swing weight around and lift far too heavy with poor form. If you did that, standing on the reformer, you wouldn’t be standing on the reformer for very long. Finding the right resistance when strength training is key. If the resistance on your extremities is greater than your ability to breathe properly and maintain alignment, it’s too heavy!! • • Want to learn how to combine limitless options of movement on the reformer? Not perfect but done ✅ As someone who has spent the majority of my life as a dancer, it was normal to spend 4-8 hours a day working on my craft and perfecting the steps. It was truly a beautiful way to spend my time but I’m now in the season of my life where I move to feel good and to stay strong so I can keep up with my kids!!!! 👧🏼🧑🏼 I love incorporating yoga postures on the reformer. It’s not pure pilates and my form isn’t perfect but it felt really good doing it. That’s the point, right? To feel good and not be paralyzed for the sake of perfection.
