☀️A LITTLE SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT 🤔 I know how it feels when sessions get repetitive. When working with clients with limitations many exercises are eliminated, and suddenly you’re in a teaching rut. In the past I found that in these cases my sessions became more conversational and eventually there was very little Pilates happening. If you’ve never experienced this I’m impressed! I’ve been through this a lot, but I want you to know it can be different. Sometimes you just need to explore what’s of inside of you. It’s all in there! Sometimes you just need a little extra help. I started my online studio because I know how it feels to teach Pilates for a long time and forget why you started. One day you realize you’re teaching more than you’re doing Pilates and all you want to do is go home and chill after work. To stay excited about your work you have to stay invested in it. ✨Think about who you’re teaching the next day and make a plan. Write it down or not but have a game plan. I never stick with a plan completely. I teach 100% with my intuition and the foundations of the methodology I was trained in, but I don’t walk through the door and wing it anymore. ✨Set up the studio before each session with the props and spring settings you plan to use. Be intentional about what your students are going to get out of their time with you. ✨Get to the studio just a little earlier than usual and get a 15 min workout in. It will transform your energy for teaching that day guaranteed! You DESERVE to get up excited to go to work everyday but YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT. Unfortunately there isn’t a magical joy fairy who flys around sprinkling happy dust. I WISH THERE WAS! We have to set ourselves up for joy, but we also can’t forgot that there are just going to be bad days or weeks. We’re human and that’s part of life. The prenatal section of my website takes you from 12 to 32 weeks with my sweet friend Carrie B. These sessions are fun and move and quite honestly are great whether you’re pregnant or not! Let’s talk...“Shoulders back and down, shoulders down, get your shoulders down!!!!” Yep. Pilates instructors are as well known for saying that as we are for not being able to count. I’m just going to throw a thought out there though. Are there times when it may not be necessary??? My opinion is yes. (Opinions are the dumbest thing you can put out on social media but here goes!) Over cuing shoulders back and down when curling can restrict your curl and leave you feeling frustrated and a little icky in your neck. (Again, my opinion, not saying I’m right!) Try using the leg springs to assist your curl and sacrifice “good” shoulder positioning and see how it feels. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
