🔹This week we will be looking at 3 of the 6 Pilates Principles - 🔰Concentration, 🔰Centering and 🔰Control . 1️⃣There will be another mini routine building up through this week. . 🔹Beginning to challenge our stability and focus on engagement and initiating the movement from the Powerhouse (abdominal, lower back, pelvic floor, hips and glutes). . 🔹Feeling the feet, pelvis, ribs, shoulders and head resting on the ground, and take a moment. Feel grounded and the length of the body. ❗️If the shoulder, neck or head feel at all strained then you can place a folded towel underneath the head. . 🔹Take another moment and settle. . 🔹Raising the arms up towards the ceiling and feel the shoulders ground further in to the mat. . 🔹Taking them back overhead and feel a lovely lengthening in the body, allowing the ribs to expand. . 🔹Exhale, and initiating the movement by the ribs drawing towards the hips, draw the arms back overhead and place them down by the side. Keep this going. . 🔹Taking time through the movement and concentrate on what is happening. ❓Do the feet still feel grounded. Are the knees equal distance apart? Do the hips feel heavy and connected with the mat? Position yourself against a wall for support and feedback. Be sure to engage your abs and pelvic floor when exhaling. 🦶🏼How do you take care of your feet?! Save this video for later! . Ankle, foot, heel problems? My arch is sore today from sand sprints yesterday so I thought I’d share some of my favorite SMR and dynamic flexibility exercises with you today! Running in the sand is no joke and requires more ROM and mobility in the ankles and feet so I LOVE these exercises before and/or after my flag football games with @beachcitysports. They’re also great when my arches and/or calves are feeling tight and before strength and endurance workouts at @work_training_studio when I need to be ready for power, explosive movements, heavy weight lifting/pushing and sprinting on the treadmill. . ☑️ Arch roll ☑️ Arch pressure with toe flares ☑️ Dynamic heel lift ☑️ Calf roll ☑️ Calf pressure with ankle movement* . *Too often I see people with ankle and feet problems ignore their calves! Don’t ignore your calves! Many of my personal heel injuries and issues over the years have actually started from lower leg strains that radiated pain to my heel. Fortunately I had @flatironssportsinjury to help me navigate through this. . ⏭ Video sped up 2x. 👩🏻‍⚕️ Always check in with your doc first. I was really active in both as I was teaching dance (Tap, Ballet, Contemporary & Hip Hop Styles) and STOTT Pilates to all ages and abilities including adults and children with special educational needs and/or disability and adults with mental health. I loved teaching and still do but in both pregnancies when I got to around the 7 month mark I had to take a step back due to pelvic pain. I am apparently hyper mobile and add enormous bumps to the joys of the hormone relaxin and you have the feeling of having been kicked in the foo constantly. Ouch! I took to doing modified STOTT pilates from home and wearing a belt to aid walking and everyday activities. What I’m trying to say is that if you are in pain: Get help. Go get an appointment to see a physio and modify your usual activity to account for the additional strain on your body. ABS WITHOUT SIT-UPS! . . Save this and add it to your next workout! 💪🏻🔥 . . . Apart from my many other back issues, I also have a herniated disc. This means sit-ups are not ideal for me as they curve my back. These Pilates moves are great for building a strong core while still being good for your back! . . 1. Scissor twists - I don’t have enough flexibility to keep my legs straight so I keep my knees slightly bent. If you can straighten your legs, go for it! . . 2. Hundreds - you can keep your feet on the floor, in tabletop (like me) or straight up. . . 3.
