Can battle ropes help you gain muscle? The quick answer is yes.  Muscle development happens as a result of stress being applied to the muscle. In addition to stress, to build muscle you will also need to be in an anabolic state. Anabolic training refers to the building of muscle from protein and nutrients, as opposed to catabolic – which means to break down. A great core rope integration is the PLANK WAVES: A Core dominate battle rope exercise. This exercise will challenge your core, balance, and nervous system. You will want to make sure you’re not pushing your shoulder too much with exercise and not use a really heavy rope if you have limited range of motion in your shoulders. Combining a movement like this to your program means you get a lot of bang for your buck. You can also try doing this with one leg up for added core stress.

Technique . . Technique is huge for strength/power or even hypertrophy. The better the technique the more tension we can place on the body in the right areas . . That doesn’t mean go light weights all the time! But go at least moderate/high weight for seriously good reps with control and your technique will progress massively . . This is because the body’s response to being in a good position under the correct tension will make you much more efficient in the movement and stronger.

Back in the day, guys were big and lean, and the few women that trained were STRONG and lean WITHOUT this constant worry about what to eat or not to eat; what drugs and supplements to take or not to take; how much cardio to do or not to do...I'm not creating some false narrative of a golden-era past, long gone and never to return. No. Im just telling you that the effort and time in the gym, lifting WEIGHTS was paramount all the way up until around 2001. When the internet became popular and content creation became a necessity, that's when the fitness world moved to a scientific-reductionist mindset and started to analyze putative proxies seeking final causes hoping to establish linear relationships from micro to macro (from the lab to the real world). I was intrigued to read about what happened when Andy Murray first met the woman who operated on his hip. He first met her in late January, shortly after he got back to London from Melbourne. During a consultation he asked her: "How do I know you're good?" She just said to him: "Well, you don't. You don't know.” He appreciated the honesty as she told him what his expectations should be. She didn’t over-promise. If she didn't know something then she would say she didn't know the answer rather than trying to sell something that might not be case. Andy said, “That was why I had surgery with her”.
