I mostly like to focus on strengthening the entire core and my arms when I practice alone since I need that more than flexibility. But every now and then I like to pretend I was in the circus 🎪 Although I was born flexible, I see major improvements in my back bends. There is much more control in the bend rather than letting my body just flop around like a cooked noodle. To work on #paryankasana use a bolster. Push the elbow down to grin the middle back and coil the chest. Hard part is keep the grip as you take the arms overhead. Make sure the forearms can press into something to stimulate the grip of the middle back. This is one of my favorite ways to prepare for bigger backbends. Or, to chill in a sweet restorative backend. Here’s how to get into Paryankasana. ✨ Start in Virasana with a block between your feet. Strap your legs and pull apart on the belt. Place a sandbag on the tops of your thighs. As you recline to place the shoulder blades on the blocks, lengthen your tailbone forward. Grab a second strap (measure the loop before you set it all up) and place it around one upper arm, take it under the back of your head and get your other arm in it. The strap should support the base of the skull. That’s the trickiest part. Wiggle it around to get it just right. Try arms outstretched and prayer hands with elbows bent. Stay a while. ✨

After I have taken the test I discovered that my predominant dosha is Kapha, but that I also have many Pitta characteristics. Even if this pose looks easy to perform it still requires flexibility in your knees and strength in your back to hold it for a few breath. But what I love the most about Paryankasana is that it makes your mind focus fully on the present moment. . Anything mixing with pitta gets hot,so to balance we need:cool,drier and lighter. Pitta|Kapha sweats a lot to release the abundance of water and heat. ⭕️ASANAS🧘‍♀️ by all three @yoganama @yoga_ania @nishthabijlani 👯🙈 yet again As from notes - Since pitta is focused in the abdominal area and kapha in the chest area,include asanas that stretch and increase pressure in the abdominal and chest area,standing asanas with forward bends and twists, short headstands. Most sitting poses are centering and relaxing stimulating parasympathetic response in the body and the more intense ones are better suited for pacifying Kapha Yes I still struggle with Marichi and I always end up not doing the right way 😉😛😛 point noted below First, usually one dosha will be more out of balance than the other. In summers maybe pitta will be agitated and kapha in winters. Or maybe you feel a lot of tension in the chest and shoulders even in downward facing dog 🐕 #adhomukhasvanasana)? . If so, try letting go a bit and don’t push into the poses to hard. Instead, include some passive chest openings in your practice. My recent favourite is a passive variation of #paryankasana (a.k.a. The Yogi’s Sofa 🛋 - because it is so comfortable 😉). If it’s to much at first, you can always try sitting up higher, crossing the legs or putting a block under your head 💆🏼‍♂️ . 스물아홉번째 요가이야기 - 파리얀카아사나 . 과정을 계획하기 . 한 해를 시작하는 날에는 서점에 들렀다가 커피를 마시러 가서 한 해동안 무얼 해내면 좋을지에 대해 생각하곤 했었다. 가을부터 사둔 다이어리를 들고 나가서 빈 종이에 까만 글씨로 또박또박 글씨를 썼다. 적어도 십년은 그것을 반복했다. 작년에는 새해를 긴 여행 사이에 페루에서 맞았었으니 이년전까지 내내 그랬다. 이번 해의 첫날에는 갑자기 채비를 하고 숲에 갔다. 눈이 많이 쌓인 자작나무숲 속에서 하늘을 오래 바라보며 걸었고, 집으로 돌아와 읽던 책을 다시 손에 들고 읽었다. 어떻게 살면 좋을까? 같은 생각에서는 잠시 고개를 돌리고 지금 좋은 것들을 만나며 흘러가고 싶다는 생각과 눈을 맞추었다. . 꼭 해야할 것만 같았던 것들을 하지 않아도 인생이 크게 흔들리지 않는다는 것을 가르쳐 준 것은 긴 여행이었다. 이루어야만 한다고 여겼던 것들, 소망하고 노력해야 하고, 열심히 달려야만 인생이 점차 나아진다고 생각했던 시간들이 있었다. 나는 노력하는 일, 꾸준하게 마음쓰는 일만큼은 꽤 잘하는 의리파인데, 성장에 대한 생각에 변화가 찾아오기까지 그래서 꽤 오랜 시간이 필요했다. 성장하지 않는 날이 있어도 괜찮아, 라는 말을 나에게 할 수 있기까지 오랜 시간이 필요했다. 올해의 나는 매일을 새롭게 만나고 낯설게 바라보기로 했다. . 커다란 목표같은 것은 세우지 않았다. 대신 전과는 다르게 목표를 대했다. 아주 어려워서 지키려면 무척 애를 써야만 하는 목표는 다른 노트에 살짝 적어두고 자주 사용하는 다이어리에는 매일, 매주 하려는 일들, 작은 것들을 적었다. 한 달동안 생각해보면 좋을 문장을 적기도 했다. 구월이 된 지금까지 계속 그렇게 지내고 있다. 춤을 추는 날, 요가 수련을 하는 날, 내가 나와 함께 있어주는 날을 적고 나와 한 그런 작은 약속들을 지키며 2018년을 살고 있다. 그러다가 알게 된 것은 과거 나의 신년 계획 대부분이 어떤 큰 목표를 달성하는 것이었다는 사실이었다. 5월까지 체중 감량 성공하기나 9월까지 어떤 요가 아사나 해내기 같은 것들. 모두 어떤 일들의 결과인 일들을 나는 계획했었다. . 그러나 결과는 계획할 수 없다. 우리들이 할 수 있는 것은 과정을 계획하는 일이다. . 그것도 모른채 결과를 계획하고는 그것을 위한 과정에 대해서는 '그냥 노력해야지.' 정도로만 생각하며 시간을 보냈었던 것이다. 지금의 다이어리에는 수많은, 과정에 대한 계획들이 채워지고 있다. 이렇게 과정을 계획하고 해나가다가 선물처럼 어떤 결과가 나를 찾아와도 좋고, 그렇지 않아도 과정을 빼곡하게 만난 나는 나의 커다란 스펙트럼에 색 하나를 채웠으니 이대로 괜찮다고 생각한다. . 어렵게 여겨지는 아사나들의 공통점을 생각해보고 필요한 연습을 하는 시간을 늘려야겠다는 마음이 올라왔다. 예전 같았으면 굉장히 도전이 되는 아사나 하나를 정하고 자주 넘어지면서 시간을 보냈을 것이다. 그런 행동은 그런 행동대로의 의미가 있다. 그런데 요즘의 나는 할 수 있는 동작들 중에 더 깊어져야 하는 동작이 뭐가 있을까? 스스로에게 질문해 보고는 8월 내내 파리얀카아사나를 하였다. 오래 머무르며 몸을 살펴보고 충분하게 동작을 경험하는 시간. 등이 밀어올려 주어서 열리는 흉부의 느낌을 느끼고, 겨드랑이 안쪽이 부드러워지자 편안해지는 어깨 관절을 경험했다. 목의 앞선이 긴장을 풀자 목의 뒷편에서도 긴장을 놓아 머리 뒷편부터 정수리까지 전부 시원해지는 기분도 만났다. 덕분에 팔월의 세번째 주에 수련을 하다가 '아, 돌아왔구나, 내가 정말 좋아했던 이 숨의 느낌이 다시 나에게 왔구나.' 하며 미소지었다. 300일간의 여행 후에 나는 8키로나 몸무게가 늘었었다. 어려운 줄도 모르고 하던 동작들도 전부 다 어려웠고, 아사나를 할 때면 자꾸 숨이 가빠졌다. 과거에 과체중이었던 사람은 몸이 예전처럼 다시 과체중이 되면 마음도 같이 무거워진다. 어쩌면 몸보다 마음이 더 무거워진다. 그런데 그 마음도 다르게 대해 보았다. 할 수 있는 일을 하며 기다렸고, 재촉하지 않았다. 그랬더니 몸은 나의 속도대로 서두름 없이 느긋하게 변화하고 있고, 할 수 있는 동작을 더 긴 시간 머무르며 매일 하는 것 만으로도 숨쉬기가 편안해질 수 있다는 것을 알게 되었다. . 울어도 해결되지 않을 일에는 울지 말자고 생각했었지만, 요즘은 해결될리 없어도 울고 싶은 날에는 우는 것도 괜찮다고 생각한다.
