Happy to have been a part of the first @mastrength weightlifting seminar in SF this weekend with my coach/mentor @xfruoff! Not gonna lie, when we first began I was so negative toward what our instructor was teaching. Ripping apart in my head what seemed wrong from how we teach and lift. Within the first couple of hours I was tapped with a PVC more times than I could count, and I learned that with all this booty I don’t activate it during my lifts at ALL (what a waste lmao). But after trying out the techniques and trusting the movement it was such an eye opener! This seminar was excellent to see how the Chinese lift with intention, body awareness and energy. There is such simplicity and trust with Chinese weightlifting, and it was great to learn about their style and discipline in the sport. ——— As a coach, it’s important to be open minded and never stop learning for the sake of your athletes. Weightlifitng is so much more than bar slams and PR videos, and the more you learn the more you’ll grow. We are excited to bring back some of what we learned to our @asapweightlifting athletes! Thank you #mastrength for an indescribable experience!

Prone PVC Lifts are a great drill to strengthen the upper back and improve shoulder mobility. Grip the PVC pipe wide enough that you can fully open the shoulders up so that your upper arm ends up being in line with your ears. As you lift, keep your shoulder externally rotated (think of keeping the point of your elbow turned outward).⁠ .⁠ Once you can hit 10 full range of motion reps with good control at a given width bring your hands in more narrow to increase the challenge!⁠ ⁠ Sept 4th I'll be hosting an 8 week Barbell Club @reebokcharlotte focused on improving your technique, mobility, and strength specific to the snatch! Our goal wasn’t to come to this meet to “have a good time.” This was a meet to restart the competitive process, and we had goals in mind for that. First, qualify for Nationals. Done ✅ Second, win the State Title. Done ✅ Third, go attempt some State Records, no matter what, make or miss. Done ✅ These were all big goals to set, but it all started with a simple process: hit the first goal, and then you’re allowed to move on to the next. While I’m proud of Stephanie for her outstanding performance, I’m more proud of her for doing what a true competitor needs to do - focus on the process. Did we both want bigger weights in mind? Yes. Were we confident she could make them? Yes. Did we want to risk it because we were feeling ourselves? Absolutely, resoundingly, no. Stephanie knew deep down that the only thing that mattered was the first step in the process, which is getting back to the National stage. Once that was accomplished on the opening attempts, then she allowed herself to focus on the bigger goals. Control, discipline, and focusing on the bigger picture is what gave her one of the best meets of her life. Once she achieved those smaller goals, the bigger, bolder ones became that much more attainable. Proud is an understatement, but it’s the best word to describe the feelings surrounding this weekend.
