If there is one thing I dislike the most is walking so I have never explored NY during the day, instead I always went for the night life (Uber dropping me right in the front of where I needed to be 🙈) _____________________________________________________________ After all the walking I did in Europe, I told myself it’s not so bad, and I should do it more often, so here I am exploring this beautiful city on foot and boy have I been missing out. On every corner there is something different. _____________________________________________________________ While searching for gelato 🍧 I was so excited to see this cute little street with cobble stones that reminded me of back home. I couldn’t decide on what photo to post so I chose all of them 🙈 Share some of your favorite places in NY for my lazy butt to go see

People often ask me, “What are your favorite jazz songs?” Though I appreciate the question, it is one whose answer is nearly impossible to produce. As one of the many proud purveyors of early jazz music, it is unthinkable that any one of us could have a single favorite tune. Within the sub-genres of traditional jazz and early swing, there exist thousands of incredible tunes penned by the likes of Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, Noble Sissle and Fats Waller, to name a few. With mountains of music created during this time alone (roughly 1916-1938), how could you choose just one? I submit that it can’t be done. Rather, this early American music is largely a collection of great works to be discovered and rediscovered. • Within each musical phrase lives a conversation between the composer, the arranger and the musicians waiting to be decoded. Each recorded interpretation of a tune, though static, reveals something new to the listener as viewed through the lens of the time in which they live. Music is, in effect, a living time capsule whose contents can say as much about us as those who created it. • Maybe the question should be, “What tune do you find yourself revisiting year after year?” ✨(LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW)✨ • One I find myself revisiting is a tune written by the British composer and bandleader Ray Noble. This tune, “The Very Thought Of You,” speaks eloquently of romance in ways I can only aspire. Recommended versions: Billie Holiday(1938) and Al Bowlly (1934). Give it a listen. Here are the lyrics below: • The Very Thought Of You And I forget to do Those little ordinary things That everyone ought to do I'm living in a kind of daydream I'm happy as a king And foolish though it may seem To me that's everything The mere idea of you The longing here for you You never know how slow the moments go Till I'm near to you I see your face in every flower Your eyes in stars above It's just the thought of you The very thought of you, my love 📷 @JoeThommas **NOTE: The dates of the origins of Jazz are hotly contested and debated just like most important things. These are roughly the dates I use based on recordings and my research.
