Balance it out. I admit - I’m pretty bad at balancing things out lately. Especially emotionally. I still cannot figure out why, but I’m trying to figure out what’s important for me and what soothes me and what not. It’s definitely a process at the moment. On the other hand, when it comes to my practice I find balance easier in most asanas - even in my not beloved inversions. Maybe my body tries to tell me something and help me getting through that crazy mind 🙈 so here’s a well balanced boat on the already known stool. ⭐️ #TriYogaSchool ⭐️ For October we are working towards Eight Angle Pose & the first pose in our progressions is Boat Pose, or Navasana 🎓 Boat Pose tones & strengthens the abdominal muscles as well as strengthening the spine & hip flexors. It also stretches the hamstrings & improves balance & digestion. It was a toss up choosing between Boat & Chaturanga for our first pose, but we’ve already covered Chaturanga in depth (it’s important for the bent arm strength in Eight Angle) so please check out my tip hashtag below if you’d like a refresher 👍 🎓 Boat Pose Alignment Cues: #omniyogagirltips 1. Sit up high on your sitting bones & ground through the hips 2. Engage the pelvic floor firmly & keep the lower belly drawn in 3. Straighten the legs & press the base of the big toes together (you can always modify by keeping the legs bent) 4. The inner thighs are engaged, with a slight internal rotation 5. Think about drawing the tops of the thigh bones down into the hips 6. Lift the chest & keep the spine long & straight (avoid rounding the lower back) 7. Draw the shoulder blades down the back & keep the arms parallel with the mat 8. • Straight leg #pinchamayurasana is one of the hardest inversion. Cos we tend to overarch the back very easily... Try this exercise! No kicking against the wall, you climb up the wall 💁 • ✔️Climb up the wall and walk your elbows closer to the wall if you can. • ✔️Look up toward your chest to hollow your belly in like #ardhanavasana. • ✔️ Keep one foot on the wall only the ball of the foot, lift other leg up to the ceiling. Avoid backbend here by pointing your foot up and squeezing the naval in. • ✔️ Switch side and repeat till you feel comfortable. • ✔️ Drop your gaze down between your wrists for the better stability, then lift both legs up to the sky. • ✔️ Hug your both inner thighs in and press your entire forearm down as much as possible. From @rachely.wang 😴🤸🏻‍♀️🛫 Day 1️⃣5️⃣ of #PressingDreams with @cyogalife ➡️ Wide-Legged Rocks with #Navasana + #Plow + #UpaVistaKonasana 🛫 🕉 I draw the line at transverse anything 🤣. Ok after typing that I just tried it to see if I could do any part of it , which confirmed what I already knew. Me and transverse don’t get along for now 😜. Anyway I went with the Rachel’s wonderful option. It reminded me of Ashtanga Maonday’s so I did the Ashtanga version of what I know, with my favorite jump through and back. Couldn’t help myself. But hey I tried the Transverse thingy after all 👊🙏. Can’t wait for tomorrow, I’ll be chanting with Krishna Das tomorrow night. . 🕉 The rest is from Rachel 🤸🏻‍♀️😴 Today is a 3-in-1 type of day, starting from #Navasana, rocking back into #Halasana, and rolling back up to Navasana and settle into #UpaVistaKonasana. This combo works the hip flexors and core, especially helping find the low back engagement. Be mindful with the rocking because you can use your momentum and whip yourself back and forth or demand more from your muscles as you slow it down. Do this on a mat or carpet if you don’t like the feeling of your spine pressing against the hardwood floor, providing more cushion for those bones. Leg activation is still required here especially when releasing the toes into UVK because you want to land the heels down lightly. When rocking back and forth, round your spine (flexion) and hollow out the belly, making it easier to come down onto your back and up onto your seat. Besides the movement in between poses, you still want to have a lengthened spine in Boat Pose and Wide-Legged Forward Fold. Also, pay attention to your shoulders - they’ll tend to want to hike up because you are trying to catch your balance. Find more space in the neck area as if you are lifting the head out of the shoulders. I find that this is pretty useful for building compression (i.e. folding deeply like a pancake) for pressing up as Carmen had mentioned in #Samokanasana today. Give it a try and hopefully not get too dizzy, remember to #yogaafter50

Keeping the balance in Navasana is tough with extended legs. However as one slowly works towards drishti (the point of focus) the body begins to feel more stable and less shaky. In my practice over the years, I find drishti to be a powerful tool not just to attain balance but also unlock the immense potential that we have. From the outside it looks I am looking at the toes but in reality the gaze pierces through the toes to a destination unseen and unknown. Activate the drishti to bring steadiness and mental concentration by breathing consciously with control! #meditation #pranayama #navasana #core #drishti #yogawithshivani #potential

This week I will be sharing 7 postures to strengthen the core muscles. I will be exploring variations of Navasana/ Boat Pose that will get intense and more challenging with every post. Double Toe Hold builds strength through the core muscles, including the abdomen and the entire back. It also stretches the hamstrings and calves, while lengthening and warming up the spine. It challenges and improves full-body balance and coordination, improves digestion, and can relieve back pain. This pose is particularly beneficial for developing mental and emotional equilibrium. The concentration and focus required to hold the pose creates a calm and serene mind, reducing stress, anxiety, and over-thinking. Enjoy the last posture in the series! 😴🤸🏽‍♀️🛫 Day 1️⃣8️⃣ of #PressingDreams with @cyogalife ➡️ #TuckHeadstand or #SirsasanaA variation 🛫🤸🏽‍♀️😴 If today’s pike press makes your hamstrings twinge in trepidation, here is a variation that addresses many of the same anatomical factors (compression, core engagement, active legs, stacking joints) without requiring the same deep hamstring opening. . After practicing poses like #navasana, #parsvattonasana, #dolphinpose and #uttanasana to warm up your core, hip flexors, shoulders and hamstrings, come onto your knees and place your elbows down shoulders’-width apart. Interlace your fingers in either the classic goal post 🥅 shape or with the palms pressed together, and place the crown of your head down in front of your hands. Press down into our forearms to broaden your shoulder blades and decompress your neck; curl your toes under, send your hips up and back and begin to walk your feet in towards your face. Bend one knee at a time, sending knee to chest and heel to glutes, and either stay here, alternating legs, or tuck both knees into your chest. Make sure you keep your feet active, your elbows hugging in towards your midline, and your breathe smooth and even! .
