💪 Protein Feedings 🍖 . Throughout the day your body switches between states of synthesizing and breaking down protein. When it comes to building muscle, you want MPS (muscle protein synthesis) rates to EXCEED PBR (protein breakdown rates). . In a fasted state, PBR rise. If they exceed synthesis rates, the result is muscle loss (NEGATIVE protein balance). When you consume protein, MPS rates rise. Once they exceed breakdown rates, the result is muscle gain (POSITIVE protein balance). . While the most important part of growth/retention is ensuring you consume enough protein OVERALL, you can OPTIMIZE synthesis rates by having high-quality protein feedings numerous times throughout the day. In contrast, numerous protein feedings ensure you RETAIN muscle while in a deficit. . For example (generalizing periods of time), Whey protein can elevate synthesis rates around 4 hours while casein can do so for around 6. The idea here is to re-spike MPS rates every time they begin to fall so PBRs don’t exceed MPS (a reason why Whey is preferred pwo and during the day while casein/egg is preferred while you’re sleeping or going longer periods before you can have another feeding). . Tis isn’t to say if you decide to fast most of the day muscle just begins to “fall off” your frame. As a matter of fact, the body is stubborn when it comes to holding on to resources like muscle and fat. However, if you want FASTER progress in both strength and size (and energy levels), getting numerous quality feedings is the way to go. . I don’t really find myself hungry during the day (and prefer to bank calories till my last meal). However, ensuring I AT LEAST consume protein numerous times a day makes a HUGE impact on my overall progress, especially when trying to build muscle/strength. . Below are some tricks how I did it while energy is very low ⤵️ • • 1. Go in with a vision of your final goal and take one exercise at a time. Don’t think about “all you have to do still” 2. Count reps in 5... you can always do 5 more reps 3. Remind yourself “TRAIN ANGRY” 4. Switch it up (new music/preworkout/gym/anything!) Boredom is the number 1 dream killer... the grind isn’t pretty doing the necessary work consistently day in and day out 5. Set little short term goals 6. Find a good TV show for Cardio (suspenseful long episodes!) 7.
