Anxiety will be there, but you can choose to not engage with it. . Easier said than done, I know. So how do you not engage? Acknowledge it, observe it, label it, and talk #% about it behind its back 😂 (only slightly joking about the last bit). . . Anxiety sucks, it’s a nuisance that persists because it serves a purpose. Without it, we wouldn’t fear the dangers that could end our life. Without it, we might not be as motivated to avoid consequences. But sometimes, when anxiety tells us of dangers that don’t exist, it’s a jerk! And when anxiety turns our bodies into a sweaty, heart-racing nervous wreck at the slightest thought of fear, it’s a jerk! . . Today, anxiety is being a jerk and I’m choosing not to listen. I acknowledge my fear thoughts but I watch them pass without giving in to the jerkiness of it! This morning I woke up with a great reminder of my left leg injury and the compensation that occurs within the body to counter pose the injured area and brace for what’s to come. I could have easily just skipped my practice but thought that in doing so I was just compensating by avoiding the work that needs to be done to get stronger both physically and mentally. The healing journey has been long and still more work needs to be done. My practice allows me to move forward no matter if it’s a good day or bad day. It doesn’t remind me of the past nor the future. TIPS & POSES 💕GET ALL THE GOODIES: I like to make restorative yoga extra special. Grab pillows, blankets, comfy clothes, blocks & essential oils. . ✨SEATED STRETCHES: Sit on a pillow & do some side stretches! Move slow and breathe deep. Cat & cow pose relieves any stiffness in the back! . 💕RECLINED TWIST: This feels so good to the spine and is great for the internal organs. This move can relieve cramps from your period. . ✨WINDSHIELD WIPER: Feet are planted on the mat & knees rock side to side. This stretches and massages the lower back . 💕SUPPORTED FISH: One of my favorite restorative poses. One tall block for your head, one goes behind your back. Adjust until you feel comfortable. Your legs can go into any position, but I recommend walking the feet out and bringing knees together. . ✨SUPPORTED SAVASANA: Roll up a blanket to support your knees & use a pillow for your head. No these hips don’t lie 💃🏼; you can clearly see my hammys were SO tight! 🙈😂 This mornings #yogaflow goal was working on hip openers & loosening my tight hamstrings muscles. My lil 🐈 chicky 🐓 joined me!😹 After being stubborn for a few days; I finally decided it was time to get on my mat and work on stretching my hamstrings that had been SO sore and achy. In the beginning of the video (going into forward fold) I discovered I was so tight & sore I could barely reach forward for my feet. So I went in with my 👐🏼 and did some manual massage to help them relax & release. Eventually they did and I was able to progress into some downward 🐕 poses (to continue to stretch my hamstrings and gastroc/soleus). But in the process of my flow my body spoke to me and revealed some stiffness in my thoracic spine that needed addressing as well. I’ve discovered in my practice that a yoga flow 🤸🏼‍♀️ is more about listening to what your body needs in the moment than having an exact plan of all of the poses you will do. So you will see some twisting 🌪, and some threading the needle 🧵 thrown in there as well to help address some of the upper back stiffness I was feeling in the moment. Tip of the day: If your not recording 🎥 your #morningyogaroutine 🧘🏼‍♀️or #gymworkouts 🏋🏼‍♀️ I highly recommend you do, even if it’s only for your own eyes 👁👁 to look back on and see. “Wow my back looks really stiff & my downward dog looks really rounded” or “my legs aren’t quite getting to 90 during my squats” : 🙅🏼‍♀️ NOT to pick yourself apart! But to use as a form of #externalfeedback, so that you can 👀 areas you may be unaware of that you are struggling with or could improve on. I knew I was feeling stiff in my thoracic spine, but between takes I would 👀 back at my recordings & saw what I was feeling needed addressing pronto!👏🏼 #Namaste🙏 Yogis! So it turns out you can fly backwards into #anjaneyasana ❤️ I could write a caption about how working the backchain will help you deepen your backbends, or how dragging the bottom tip of the shoulder blades towards eachother and down the spine will help you open the thoracic. And even though these things are true the backbend in the video isn’t about on that. The thing is: yoga isn’t only cues, alignment, breath and awareness. A lot of it is love and magic too. 𝐃𝐚𝐠 𝟏𝟗: 𝐎𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐞 𝐯𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩 Ik voel me vandaag verwend. Ik was niet thuis en mijn vriendinnen hebben geregeld dat @joepiedehond uitgelaten werd en te eten kreeg. Zonder dat ik dat echt heb hoeven vragen. De band die ik met deze vriendinnen heb voelt als familie, als onvoorwaardelijk. En dat is niet uit de lucht komen vallen… Een tijdje terug ging het niet zo lekker met mij. Maar natuurlijk praten we liever over wat er allemaal wel goed gaat in het leven. Over wat we bereikt hebben en hoe geweldig dingen zijn. Maar ingewikkelde problemen lossen we liever zelf op. Gevoelens van schaamte en kwetsbaarheid zorgen voor een drempel zo hoog als de Mount Everest. Het is niet leuk om te zeggen dat het niet goed gaat. Door helemaal eerlijk te zijn en je uit te spreken, vraag je ruimte en aandacht. Dat vond ik maar niks. En toch heb ik het gedaan. Ik heb ervoor gekozen om alle bitterheid in zijn meest pure en kwetsbare vorm te laten zien aan mijn vriendinnen. Ik heb ervoor gekozen om ruimte in te nemen. Om te zeggen dat het niet goed met me ging en dat ik het niet alleen kon. Dat ik ze nodig had. Met alle angsten en zorgen die dat met zich meebracht: ze zouden me kunnen ontvrienden op Facebook, ze zouden me kunnen uitlachen, ze zouden de hele wereld kunnen vertellen waarmee ik aan het dealen was of ze zouden me niet serieus kunnen nemen… Maar dat gebeurde niet. Ze gingen vierkant achter me staan. Onvoorwaardelijk. Ze stonden daar als ik het nodig had. Zonder iets terug te verwachten. Al was dat midden in de nacht of op een moment dat ze iets beters te doen hadden. Ze stonden daar. En ze staan daar nog steeds. Die eerlijkheid heeft veel gebracht in de vriendschap. Alles kan gedeeld worden, zonder filter, ook al is dat soms niet zo leuk. De relatie is écht... zo echt als het maar zijn kan. En met vol vertrouwen dat die band er is en niet meer weg gaat. Onder andere deze meiden zorgen er voor dat mijn leven de moeite waard is, dat ik me geliefd en niet alleen voel. En daar ben ik zó knetter dankbaar voor.
