Set feet strongly on the floor (organize the foot arches as a basis for the position) 3. With knees bent, lower the pelvis to the rear of the heels. Descend with a straight back which gradually rounds with increased flexion. 4. Hands palm to palm (as in prayer) between the thighs. 5. Gaze forward and slightly downward, so that the neck remains long as a natural continuation of the spine and the chest cavity gradually moves forward between the two thighs. 6. While holding the position – heels are in full contact with the floor and weight is distributed equally between both feet. Emphasize equal distribution of weight on both sides of the foot (internal and external) . ❌Common problem 1 Limited range of dorsiflexion due to tight plantar flexor muscles or a joint problem. . ❌Common problem 2 Limitation in range of lower back flexion due to tight erector spinae muscles or a structural problem In conditions of pain or a limitation in the knees, it is possible to roll a small blanket and place it behind the knees. Surfing injuries suck! 🤕Especially (posterior) knee injuries! Unfortunately when you surf you usually put your back knee at a mechanical disadvantage. You will find MANY surfers complain of the same issue. Whenever they go to do a turn, they load up their back knee with this huge rotational (torque) force. This starts to shear and tear things . I have struggled with this injury before and I personally know many clients who have suffered from the same issue. From my time at @hiddenbayresortmntawais I learned a thing or two about prepping my body so I didn't suffer the same fate while surfing 6 hour+ days for a month.. and it worked!!! . 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐂𝐑𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐇⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ The main goal of isolation exercises for the abs is to improve the mind muscle connection and your ability to recruit them ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ When doing isolation work, the goal isn’t to use more weight or do more reps, it's actually to try to fail with as few reps as possible⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ This indicates that you're good at tensing your abs hard, so they fatigue sooner. If you have to do 100 reps to feel your abs, then you suck at recruiting them ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ When doing an exercise like the standing cable crunch, there are two things you should keep in mind; ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 1️⃣ Before starting a rep, contract the abs as hard as you can. Imagine you're about to get punched in the stomach, you want every rep to start like this.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 2️⃣ Once you’ve completed step one, CURL your torso downwards. Once you’ve rolled forward and reached the end of the range of motion, flex the abs as hard as you can again before returning to the starting position.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ❗️Most important point ❗️⁣ ⁣ The goal isn't really to "crunch" but to shorten the distance from the hips to the sternum (chest). ..:: KNOW YOUR WHY ::.. Your why is the foundation and fuel for why you do anything and everything. It is the basic structure in which you establish work capacity and having a strong why will build a strong focus. This focus helps you to achieve your goals. Be it Fitness, movement, nutrition, lifestyle, or work. It is what gives you the motivation to get up in the morning, go to work everyday, lift one more rep in the gym, stop at just 1 Tim Tam (who am I kidding, I mean 1 pack 🤣) One of my “WHY”’s is pictured above. Growing up (and by growing up I mean my late teens and 20’s) I always wanted to have a loving family, be able to kick a footy with them, play with them in the back yard and get down to the beach on weekends and after school in summer. The same loving family I was fortunate to grow up in. Another “WHY” is being fit and “The idea is to die young as late as possible” Ashley Montagu. I mean I want to win the gold medal in the 100m sprint for 100+ year olds (I figure as I get older the competition gets less and less). This is what lead me to open up The Functional Movement Club. Being my own boss so that I can take Wednesdays off to spend with the family and not get in trouble from the higher ups. Being able to block out afternoons to take my kids to footy or netball practice (or sneak down to the beach in summer). And also why I spend almost as much time at the gym as I do at home. Having a why gives you direction and a benchmark for your life, Are you moving towards your why? Or are you moving further away from it? What is your why? Don’t know your why yet? Write down 3 things each day that give you energy (you could do them all day and not get sick and tired of) and 3 things that drain your energy, and pretty soon you will start to see a pattern.
