GRATITUDE! When I was first introduced to this practice, I thought it was a little cheesy 😆🙈 BUT now I’m completely converted and I love it!!! I LOVE STRETCHING. When we first started dating, my husband would joke that every time he looked over at me I was doing one of two things- stretching or snacking (probably a very accurate appraisal tbh)⠀ ⠀ I wasn’t always this way. I used to totally avoid feeling things in my body. When we’ve spent years of criticizing our physical selves, perhaps carrying trauma and anxiety in the body, it’s hard to reconnect, and even harder for that connection to feel positive.⠀ ⠀ Stretching is great for those of us who naturally spend time in our minds, not our bodies. ⠀ ⠀ I’m here to tell you as someone who was basically a floating head for a few decades of life, body awareness can 100% be built with practice. The problem is that lots of people are uncomfortable with the process of developing body awareness. ⠀ ⠀ A mindful stretch sesh is a great place to start though. Put on comfy clothes (or be naked, you do you!), maybe find a nice yoga mat or carpet, and get focused.⠀ ⠀ 🧘🏽‍♀️Do a little scan from head to toe. What do you notice? Any areas of tightness, tension, numbness?⠀ ⠀ 🧘🏽‍♂️Start small. Be gentle with yourself. Don’t force yourself into flexibility that isn’t there yet (this goes for both physical and mental flexibility!)⠀ ⠀ 🤸🏾‍♂️If you start to really focus on whatever part of your body feels most tense, can you relax it JUST WITH YOUR MIND? ⠀ ⠀ 🧘🏽‍♀️Some people do this by envisioning a healing light traveling through that part of their body, relaxing each muscle fiber as it passes through. ⠀ ⠀ 🤸🏽‍♀️Find whatever imagery most helps you connect to the sensation of loosening, opening, softening.⠀ ⠀ I’m not qualified to give you specific physical movement advice, so instead I’ll direct you to the movement experts. ⠀ ⠀ I’ve tagged some of my favorite accounts and resources for yoga and body awareness. Parenting is not for the faint of heart.⠀ ⠀ It will exhaust you. ⠀ It will frustrate you. ⠀ It will confuse & elude you. ⠀ ⠀ ...then in the next moment it will shower you in the most exuberant love of all time.⠀ ⠀ In 12 years (13 if you add on step-parenting) it hasn't change. ⠀ ⠀ The flow of the unfollow-able.⠀ ⠀ There is no place that you truly need to be able to be present in the moment and be able to respond.....in honor of the long game rather than react in the moment...than parenting.⠀ ⠀ It is an honor & a blessing to courrier and be in service of a new soul in this lifetime.....but it ain't easy.⠀ ⠀ In order to protect, love, and help grow any relationship you've got to be centered and dedicated to your own loving. ⠀ ⠀ Self-care is the name of the game. ⠀ ⠀ When I was a new mom, I was kinda the worst at self care. I did everything for the babies at the literal expense of myself, my sleep, my hydration, my nutrition. I didn't ask for enough help....I felt I needed too much...more than most. And now 12 years in I watch new Mama's and think OMg it's so hard, they have no idea how much support they need and will need to give themselves. I wish I had the resources to fly to each one of the special women in my life who recently (12 months and under) brought new life I to the world and stay with them at least a week. Just so they can breathe...so they can rest. so they can begin to wind their way out of the birthing labyrinth, so they can begin to see they are completely different, yet more of who they always were. ⠀ ⠀ I also know if I offered each of these 5 women I'm thinking of my time, they would initially protest.⠀ ⠀ I want to encourage women, everywhere, mother's at all stages, to take the help whenever it is offered and to ask more often for it. ⠀ ⠀ It does take a village. ⠀ ⠀ You can do it on your own...but why would you if you don't have to? The era of the martyr needs to be long gone. ⠀ ⠀ Ask for help. ⠀ Talk about postpartum.⠀ Share the list feelings & the mess. ⠀ ⠀ Shift to seeing vulnerability as your super power.....for each thing that we admit is too heavy to carry alone, allows healing & miracles. ⠀ ⠀ This👆is also the magic of motherhood. ⠀

Tight hips and groin? Try this dynamic and static adductor stretch. Go slowly and tune into your body, making sure you aren’t pushing to a point of strain. This should feel like a gentle lengthening of the inner thigh of your extended leg as you shift your hips back toward your feet. Do this at least 10 times, back and forth, before settling into the static stretch. Hold for 30-60 seconds. Repeat on the other side.
