Eye Drill⁣ ⁣ Tired of staring at a screen all day?⁣ ⁣ Neck getting tight?⁣ ⁣ Stretches not really working out for you?⁣ ⁣ Excellent.⁣ ⁣ There are more systems at play than just having “tight muscles.”⁣ ⁣ How we utilize our visual / vestibular systems can play a large role in managing muscle tension. ⁣ ⁣ Our visual system is meant to help us make sense of spatial relationships. It’s pretty hard to do that when we’re not moving all day & stuck in front of a screen.⁣ ⁣ Here’s another drill you can do while at your desk:⁣ ⁣ 1️⃣Have both feet flat on the floor⁣ ⁣ 2️⃣Stack your spine by exhaling all your air out and feel weight on both your sit bones.⁣ ⁣ 3️⃣Pick something in front of you to look at (not your screen).⁣ ⁣ 4️⃣Keep your eyeballs fixed while rotating your head left and right.⁣ ⁣ 5️⃣Repeat 7-8 times.⁣ ⁣ Go slowly.⁣ ⁣ It may be tempting to take your eyeballs with you as you rotate. Don’t.⁣ ⁣ If you’ve been hyper-focusing with your visual system, this can get a little difficult to manage. ⁣ ⁣ Try that on for size the next time you’re spending hours at your desk & can’t get away. ⁣ ⁣ Let me know how it goes.⁣ ⁣ We’ll stack more onto this drill later.⁣

Sensory Self Care @fitomizefitness Have you ever been driving along and you hear a song from your past and you suddenly get a rush of emotions transporting you back to the time you first heard the song. That is your sensory system kicking in. . Traditional self-care often speaks about meditation, yoga classes, walks in the forest with pictures of serene-looking people without a care in the world. However, we know that this isn’t what self-care looks like for everyone.  What you find calming and grounding depends on your sensory threshold.  Just like our pain thresholds, our sensory thresholds differ from person to person, and that is why some people might like one activity and others will hate it. It is very important to find out what kind of activities will regulate and calm you down, according to your sensory system. For instance, you might be someone who is sensory seeking. You might love soccer, a pop concert or trail running as a self-care activity. Whereas someone who is sensory sensitive might love a walk on the beach, running on a quiet road, or sipping tea in the garden. I encourage you to practice self-care today. Not sure how? Ask yourself the following: •What do you love doing? •How often do you do it? •What are the quick and easy things you can do to take care of yourself?

I had someone ask me the other day, how can I massage all day? 🤔 It’s an interesting question because I never really thought about the fact that I do, indeed, massage bodies all day. But without having to think about my answer, it was really quite simple. 💆🏻‍♀️ Every single body is it’s own puzzle and I have to put the pieces “back together”, so to speak. I truely love the challenge of understanding the different strengths, weaknesses and imbalances that bodies develop due to a myriad of reasons and THAT is so fascinating to me. 🧐 It’s not just about muscles and fascia and the direct circumstance in which a body has responded to (and the reason they are on the table in that moment,) but daily habits, stress and emotions that effect the body as well! (Which clients generally don’t think about as having an effect.) 🙌🏼 It’s so fascinating and sometimes so obvious!! And others, well, not so obvious but that’s what makes it so interesting for me.
