I was first introduced to weightlifting and fitness when I was about 19 years old (year 2015) and really at the peak of my eating disorder. - My mom had found a job posting for a receptionist at a private gym specializing in one-on-one personal training. She had suggested I apply. - At the time, this was such an insult to me. I was so furious. ๐Ÿคฏ๐ŸคฌDid my mom not understand that I had never worked out in a gym a day in my life? That I wasnโ€™t interested in getting any bigger; I was OBSESSED with getting smaller. The gym was not a place I ever felt comfortable in so I was ultimately flabbergasted my mom would suggest something so far from my interests. - But, like the saying goes โ€œmom knows bestโ€. I decided to go on the job interview, I was hired on the spot and started the next day. - I was introduced to a whole new lifestyle. These people lived, breathed and preached FITNESS. Something I was VERY uneducated in. - This experience saved my life. Working alongside educated personal trainers all having obtained a bachelors or masters in exercise science, they took me under their wing and taught me everything theyโ€™ve learned the past 10,20,30 years being in the fitness industry. - I would train here and there but I didnโ€™t have any specific goals other than it was just really therapeutic for me; I hadnโ€™t gotten the โ€œitchโ€ yet. - I began to get consistent in the gym when I had left the job about a year & a half later (2017). I was recovering from my eating disorder and had put on a lot of weight. I wasnโ€™t eating healthy by any means; I was eating a lot of fast food. - I decided I needed to make a change for myself in order to be happy. I knew what I needed to do, I had all the tools in my tool box thanks to the trainers who educated me and helped me along the way. - I began to apply EVERYTHING I had learned from that experience to my life and the rest is history.... - I will tell you one thing though; this fitness journey has NOT been a steady incline of success. I have had MANY ups and downs. My weight has fluctuated immensely based on trial and error. But I think if you are a beginner this is something you definitely need to take into account. After I added - goji berries - ground flax & chia seeds - coconut sugar - coconut flakes๐Ÿฅฅ (All in one jar) when I was ready to eat I transferred to a bowl and covered it in warm coconut milk and let it thicken everything. When food volume is necessary... it's fricking VEG TIME. So, I like a cookie, right, but they sure as shit aren't filling unless I'm smashing up that entire pack. But sometimes it's like ARGH I NEED TO GRAZE and I'm munchy as fuck... but holy crapballs I know my body needs nutrients more than it needs HobNobs (I know, it's a fucking revelation to me, too). Food is as much about the micronutrients as the macros, y'all. So, one day, I tried a vegetable and it turns out that they actually don't all taste like ass. Yes, I know tomatoes are technically a fruit ๐Ÿ™„ Anyway, frozen edamame beans and frozen peas don't need cooking. They just need carrying around until you get the twitch. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you can satisfy a cookie craving with a vegetable. But you can satisfy hunger - know the difference and stay ahead of the game. It's all about the choices, and often, the timing. Holding out on hunger can often lead to overeating. I'm going to also call some of you out on your own bullshit right now and say that sometimes you might even deliberately hold out on your hunger as an EXCUSE to overeat. Potassium works inside every single cell of your body. Itโ€™s actually sodiumโ€™s counterpart, so the typical American diet that is extremely high in sodium and lacking in potassium is very dangerous. When the balance of the two are off, nerve and muscle functions suffer (queue the Charlie horse). Your heart is a muscle too, and potassium deficiency is directly linked to high blood pressure (Affecting over 3 million people in the US) and cardiovascular disease. This bowl definitely helped satisfy those needs especially after a long day of exams, gyming and travelling home! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Iโ€™ve been experimenting with some more pasta sauces lately as whilst I do love my silken tofu pasta sauce, change is always good! Hope you enjoy and let me know if you try it out! ๐Ÿ’•๐ŸŒฑ โ€ข SAUCE RECIPE ~ serves 1-2 โœจ โ€ข 2 peppers in brine drained (or 1 roasted pepper) โ€ข 2tbsp unsweetened soya or coconut yogurt โ€ข 1 heaped tbsp @sacla_uk vegan pesto โ€ข fresh basil โ€ข 1 tbsp nooch โ€ข garlic clove โ€ข 1/4 lemon juice โ€ข pinch of salt โ€ข โ€” 1๏ธโƒฃblitz all ingredients together until creamy.
