Life has been a little crazy lately. Chaotic to say the least.. Breaking down everything I thought I knew, letting go of all the work, effort and time I had put into one area of my life, allowing myself the necessary time to do some serious healing work, it is time to start rebuilding from scratch. 💦🌈✨ ▽ I have not been finding the time to practice my handstands lately.. at all. But one of my favorite philosophical tenets of the yoga practice is known as ‘Aparigraha’, roughly translated to mean ‘non-attachment’, or ‘non-possessiveness’. It is repetitively the part of my practice I try to honor and recognize on a day to day basis, and in the sense of our lifetime; everything changes, nothing stays the same, life is temporary and we really can’t take anything with us when we leave this plane.. 🌱🌿🍃🍂 ▽ I don’t even necessarily consider handstands to be a part of a yoga practice, (I practiced for over 10 years before doing ANY arm balances..😆) although ‘urdhva vrksasana’ (handstand) is a recognized posture, meaning upward tree pose, there is still constant debate in the yoga communities about how much of the physical practice even has anything to do with the ‘true yoga’, whatever that means 😅 I think it’s different for every person, literally for every body, and finding what yoga means to you and for you is a highly individual experience.. for me handstands are a fun and playful way to flip my perspective, and force myself immediately into the present moment. Nothing more, nothing less.. 💗 ▽ As much as I LOVE to nerd out 🤓 and get DEEP into existential philosophy, and the whole discussion about why we’re here, what it all means, and what’s beyond our level of perception.. 🌟👁✨ I think it’s SUPER important to not take yourself, your practice, or your handstands (this could be anything..) too seriously! Tomorrow is never promised. I always try my best to live from this viewpoint and truly enjoy living from a place of infinite gratitude for every day, every moment and every breath.. 😌🙏🏼 ▽ ▽ wearing @aloyoga ❤️

Spontaneity: full body awe It’s the experience of discovering what one is doing, saying, moving, expressing- only as the expression is unfolding . Like taking steps in the dark, trusting completely where your feet will land. Un-calculated, incalculable. Unformulated, in-formulate-able. It’s the act of trust. Trust in oneself. Trust you will know what to say, how to move, what to eat, which direction to turn. It’s the trust that you will know perfectly in time when the time comes and not 5 moments too soon. It’s one of those ways we say yes to life, without saying it. being it. Being the yes. Expressing that yes by trusting ourselves, our cells and Life . It is trust in action . Leaning into it always leaves me in a pile of awe on the floor . It sometimes takes experimentation to allow the natural intelligence we are created of to reactivate and lead us spontaneously. If there has been years of strategies, schedules and formula following it can feel strange to let go and allow life to take you somewhere. Walking out of 2018 and away from all the struggle, pain and challenges that came with it. I’m not gonna lie y’all, this was without a doubt, THE MOST challenging year of my life. 😝😅🔥 ▽ Everything looks different in retrospect, as the saying goes, Hindsight is 20/20.. It is not uncommon that we want to avoid making the decisions that are going to bring us discomfort. The ones that are going to be painful and scary, and hard to face. We are creatures of habit, and it can be all too easy to get comfortable in your habits, your cycles and your patterns.. but when those cycles have started to bring you more pain than happiness, have started to distance you from your own true self, your own inner knowing, or have caused you to numb out the intensity of emotion you’re afraid to deal with, should you choose to walk away, or embark on a new path, that is usually when something needs to change. We can get very attached to a certain a way of life.. to a certain vision we were holding on so tightly to.. that we can forget that nothing in life is permanent, and when we’ve reached a certain level of stagnancy and are refusing to make the changes we need to ourselves, life will often catalyze us in the direction we need to go.. I am the type of person who has always felt divinely guided. I follow my heart more than I follow my head (intuition). I have a group of Spiritual ‘guides’ (there can be so many names for these energetic beings..) that offer guidance, protection and wisdom, when it is asked for.. Well this year I started asking for help, and it feels like I had been standing at the edge of a cliff peering over the edge for so long, afraid to take the plunge into the unknown, when the Universe basically pushed me off.. Needless to say the love, support, abundance and goodness that has come my way since has been overwhelming. That does not in any way mean that it has been easy, quite the opposite.. But moving into the unknown with complete surrender, trust and faith in something that is so much bigger than me.. Walking into 2019 with my eyes and heart wide open. 💗🔮🌟👁✨ ▽ ▽ wearing | @aloyoga ❤️

#Asteya -non-stealing, the third Yama is so much more than not taking something from another. Looking at a root cause of stealing rising from the premises: “I Am Not Enough ”. When we practice asteya, we practice knowing that we are enough and that we have within the power to create and manifest all our hearts desires. We need not grasp or live in scarcity. Easier said than done, right?! But what if you live in the knowing that you are enough!! What if you trust you have within you the power to create the life that lives in your heart. Taking asteya to the mat is a cultivation of healthy boundaries, not pushing beyond the edge for the day, remembering that “I am enough exactly where I am today.” Releasing what Asana “should” look like and instead focusing on how it feels. If we allow ourselves to be open and accepting to exactly how our practice is at that moment on the mat, we stop feeling as though we’re losing out if some asanas are a little out of reach at the moment. It is never the postures we are able to do that define our practice, but the amount of awareness we bring to them. Taking Asteya off the mat is to not rob yourself of experiencing life as it is. To truly practice asteya is to allow all the feelings and sensations space to be. We tend to chase the good feelings. However, by allowing iurselves to experience all the feelings we create an emotional flexibility that moves us with a sweetness to remember that this too shall pass. The good, the bad, the indifference. And maybe with practice the bad and the indifference will begin to transform and life will open even more. A practice of asteya is to live in abundance. To remember and know your worth. You are worthy. You are enough. You have what it takes to get to where you want or even better choose to be.
